Resort Change by Disney

We're at CBR 7/15-7/25 which will be closed. We called today and was told that since our resort was closed we would be moved at no charge. She didn't say where but said we would get an email soon. We repeated it several times and verified that we would not be cancelled and have to pay more and she said that was correct...

Lets hope that turns out to be true now that the More resorts have been announced.

That may mean those guests will be treated differently. Like I said, it’s what is being reported and people with a different type room couod very well need to be moved to a more expensive resort and thus not see a charge that some one else will.

From what I have read and what I have been told, there is not the same policy as before that everyone will be moved from closed to open for free.

It will all depend. But, with Disney, what happens today as a plan could be different tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your help and feedback. I am sure this question has been posed by many in previous threads, but I am still grappling with why the re-booking incentives (e.g. Free Dining) were presented in April, as they are greatly exacerbating the current rescheduling issues. I know much was unknown in April and more uncertainty exists now, but the promotional outreach in the spring has led to so many complications now.

I agree. I am just sharing what is being said...basically, they are doing things differently now that hotels at the value and moderate level are opening in the next month and beyond.
How do we know this? I believe disney will move you to an equal open resort after July 11 without an upcharge. Why would it be different just bc parks are open? I can see all star music being moved to Pop without having to pay.

right, but there is still not a moderate option for someone like me at CBR on 7/11 with a 5th sleeper. And POP only sleeps four. I get they opened POP as a value butI was surprised they didn’t open a moderate option too. Not sure what our choices will be.
I’m in the same boat. We’re in a 5th sleeper CBR on 7/18. I’m thinking maybe FW cabins, bc that is technically moderate...but I’m personally thinking they are moving the ASMu family suite people there (I remember reading that somewhere). I hope they would rather move a family of 5 to a room that fits exactly 5 (like some DVC studios) than to take up a room for 6 which is less common. But I’m sure that’s just me hoping for DVC over FW, lol.

Just need to rant here. We had dates in May, moved to July 2-12. I called 9 days ago and modified those to July 17-22nd to Beach Club resort (not villas) and now find out they booked us in a room that isn't even available, and we are going to have to move resorts. Why Disney?? Why allow us to modify our resort to one that isn't even open?!? I've called twice today to see if they'd give us some answers but nope, our stay is after July 11th so they won't do a thing today to help us. I'm and AP holder too, so this is all just salt in the wound.

Go to the rumors board and read the big thread. Someone in the know has reported why and the plan.

The initial Reason for moves was because only DVC for the most part was available.

Now, POP is availBe so those at values have another value option to choose from. According to this poster, there is no longer a reason to offer a change for free.

Take it for what it is worth...so tomorrow, when people call, some may be asked to change, and pay, but it also sounds like a recovery offer may be part of it too.

Sorry all...I did it again and should have not posted to this thread but just said to go read that thread.

Hope tomorrow it turns out not to be true for many.

Hmmm if I have a WL reservation....why is it I have not received an email or a call about being moved to Boulder Ridge or somewhere? My reservation is July 19. I even talked to a cast member on the phone about park hoppers and she never mentioned a thing.

They haven’t started handling modifications for your dates yet and will start tomorrow. We also check in around that time (18th).

Well I know we have all spoken to different cast members who should be telling us the same info from a script LOL......
BUT...I literally just got off the phone with a cast member who seemed helpful and knowledgable.
She told me that since I have a room for WL for mid/late July that I should call in the morning and request where I would like to be moved. She said they are NOT just willy nilly moving people and that you may make a request and they will look up the availability a.s.a.p. (example if I say Boulder Ridge is fine)

(I already also have tickets with parkhoppers. She said they will remove the parkhoppers from my reservation but to please mention it tomorrow when I call.)

So my question to some of you all is.....
Are you waiting for WDW to suggest a move to you in hopes that you will receive an upgrade?
My cast member said they are expecting people to request a resort that is open and then check the availability.

I sort of felt like I need to CHOOSE A RESORT .........or else I could lose out if I wait for them to move me July 11 because there could be absolutely nothing left. Does that make sense I hope?
I know it is stressing for us all.

For anyone calling in the morning and being told that you must pay the difference to move resorts or cancel, I would suggest you not do anything and wait. I also believe that Disney will move guests with closed resorts for no charge.

But when guests checking in on June 22nd called to modify several CMs said they would also have to pay the difference which was incorrect information.

So I would first suggest that you come back here to get see if EVERYONE is also having to pay the difference before you pay extra or cancel.

Tomorrow is going to be a mess both for us and for the CMs on the call.

Yes but that is if you are relying on that there will definitely be rooms still available.
I believe they are trying to keep numbers manageable and that some people who wait would be in danger of not receiving the length of stay they are wanting or a vacancy at an onsite resort. Just a thought :confused3

Did she say that you could choose and it would be free of charge? Choose within reason of course. I’m not sure that is accurate but it would be nice if options were given.

I wouldn’t wait until the last minute to call and get moved. Unless you want to chose your resort and pay the difference.

Well, giving people choices would be a new change to the policy. Did she say it would not be an additional charge?

As with everything, there is no clear policy yet but it seems more is coming out that what is happening going forward is not going to be the same as before...

What that will be we do not know, but IMO, I suspect it may be different for each guest.

I had a June 22 check in and called last week to modify to November. Was at POFQ and moved to FW cabin and had to pay the difference. CM said that was my only option since no other mods were announced to be open at that time. I will be waiting and watching for FQ to reopen in hopes I can change back.

Well, giving people choices would be a new change to the policy. Did she say it would not be an additional charge?

Well since I am a WL gal & that is where my July reservation is I listened to her mention cabins.....Boulder Ridge and Pop Century as a few choices to choose from
I then asked "oh so I can request a room at Boulder Ridge and she said yes that they were taking requests not just moving people."
The only reason I didn't ask about an upcharge or if it would be a free upgrade is because I know the price differences between Boulder Ridge and a standard WL room because I travel with 5 adults (my college kids) and I travel sometimes just my husband & I and I have stayed at both places. Once my parkhoppers get removed I see it as even. (this years trip is just the 2 of us)
Now for others curiosity I wish I had asked. lol

Thanks...that makes sense because you are right, for those at deluxe resorts, most changes could be price similar.
