Resort Change by Disney

So we’re Beach Club Villas August 1-9 so I’m guessing we just get to keep those and not move which is good. I wonder if SAB will open by then? I don’t get the reasoning behind the smaller pools opening or we can go to the Boardwalk pool. Wouldn’t that just crowd more people together? Some decisions are so strange to me to open one thing but not another. Like in our town they cancelled all sports but our city pool opened? How is the pool safer than a local sports game? Still a crowd. That’s my confusion with the BW pool open but not SAB. What’s the difference?

I think it has to do with costs. The amount of hotel rooms at BC is more than the number of dvc rooms. If the hotel doesn't open, then ALL the cost of operating SAB falls on DVC, and it's owners. When the hotel is open the majority of the costs of operating SAB falls on the hotel.

There are also more lifeguards at SAB than other pools.

It’s because they aren’t keeping it closed for safety reasons. They are doing it to cut costs. If it crowds people into other pools, they are willing to do that. Perhaps they’ll put a cap on pool capacities.

They have already said there will be capacity constraints at pools.

They really need to keep reservations down, because if guests can't get into parks and pools are at capacity...where are people to go?

Disney Springs, walking around in a daze around the resort, Universal:confused3 Seriously thinking about what I will do if I can't get park reservations with my AP, but husband and son get them with their tickets.

I don’t think they much care. That’s the risk anyone who is going takes. Dining will be limited, pool and park access will be limited. Disney has made it clear over and over again that there will be limited access to almost everything and many things won’t be available at all.

They are doing their best to deter guests from coming on the one hand, but allowing people to move to open resorts on the other. They can’t seem to make up their minds- Do they want to limit the number of guests onsite to prevent a lot of angry guests who can’t get a dining reservation, can’t get into the parks and can’t get into a pool or do they want to pack the DVC resorts as much as possible to increase revenue?

Your guess is as good as mine. I don’t think we’ll know until the parks actually open and we see how many people were willing to take the risk. If I were to bet, I’m going to guess there’s going to be an awful lot of unhappy people.

I do know if I were a a DVC owner, I might not be too happy at the prospect of my resort being packed with guests moved over if it’s crowded. It’s awfully enticing if you got a great upgrade to go and accept whatever conditions you find.

And that's why I think so many of us are angry/upset.
I know things will be limited, and I've accepted that. And I understand the reasoning behind limiting things, and think it's a good idea for the most part. But for the love of jeebus, pick a side and let us know!

The DVC rooms that are made available for cash help to offset the MFs for owners, So, there is a benefit in the end, Not sure why a DVC owner would be any more upset over any other guest though in terms of who is there.

I only meant if the resorts were more crowded than usual. Who is there and why shouldn’t matter- how many are there does. Especially when there will undoubtedly be a lot more resort time than normal.

DVC runs full most of the time..its meant to..so nothing new there! Actually, even with moves, I think it’s less than normal. I can still get studios a few weeks out at all resorts! Normally, 3 to 4 months out is tough!

DFB posted pics that skyliner cars are back on the lines. Skyliner is practically designed for social distant transportation. Alternatively how many busses will they need to run to maintain social distancing if the skyliner is not working? Disney knows it. It’s also their newest toy.
They were moved for maintenance. That’s all .

Exactly my worry if my daughter's AP isn't recognized.

It may be great for the owners who are not staying there during the systemic “magical upgrade” season for everyone except DVC and deluxe guests.

But given the people being moved over are paying only a fraction of the DVC room rate, I’m not sure how much it’s going to offset the MFs in the long run. And it is essentially greatly devaluing the value of the points the DVC members have used, again, because those are factored on the value of the room being, say, $400 a night, when Disney is giving it away for less than $200.

DVC budgets have always maxed out breakage. The rest is in Disney pockets.

As an owner, it doesn't bother me in the least. When I bought in 2009, Disney was offering 40% of room rates, but it still made sense to become an owner.

Remember, DVC owners bought knowing the deal and what happens with inventory not booked.

Plus, we don’t know the deal DVCM has with Disney in terms of reimbursement rates either.

I just simply don’t agree with the notion that what someone else has paid is of concern to anyone else, including as an owner.

Timeshare ownership, including DVC isn’t for everyone

I’m with you on this @Sandisw. I get excited when I hear that people who don’t normally stay in DVC resorts get upgrades because I think that could potentially lead to more people buying in. That’s how we ended up as owners- we received an offer to stay in a Poly Villa for an incredible price and we were sold!

We understand that some of those staying at DVC resorts will not be DVC members. However, through July 10 or perhaps even later, it's possible that (for the first time) the major of those staying at DVC Resorts will be non-DVC members.

The issue is one of social distancing. Social distancing becomes much harder as Disney transfers more Guests into DVC Resorts. Being selfish, I want to be able to go to pool or the food court at my Home Resort without having to wait for a bunch of non-DVC members to clear out.

It's more profitable for corporate Disney but makes for a less pleasant DVC stay for me. Normally, I would not care but with social distancing, I very much do.
