Resort Change by Disney

Someone may have already answered this question. Do we have to pay the difference when we are upgraded? We have a reservation for July 19th. Also, are we allowed to add people to our reservation? We booked POP. We currently only have one person on that reservation. Thanks!
I was able to add my DH to my reservation.

The original reservation was booked as a solo trip for 7/1-8 at CBR. I was planning to cancel but when I was moved to a 1 BR at OKW we decided to make it a couples hang-out-poolside trip. I was able to add him and drop two days from the original booking.

Not in their shoes but if you picked a vacation based on dvc availability looking for a quiet getaway you certainly weren’t notified by disney about the increased guests - the prior comment was that op responded to was that disney had been upfront about changes to dvc owners.

We’re all in a similar boat, though. We had our dream club level room picked out for our anniversary and now we’re going to be moved to a DVC resort (with no club level) that was obviously not our first choice. None of us are getting the trip we signed up for. It is what it is.

I can understand this in the "off season" like February or September, but these rooms are booked for Summer.

Disney has not been upfront about this to DVC members.

Based on availability on the DVC member site, I could reasonably assume the DVC Resorts are going to be mostly empty before July 11.

Instead, Disney is moving its cash Guests to DVC Resorts and not informing its DVC members about this. At no point has Disney been "open" to DVC members about this. We are finding out about this through disboards.com.

Why would they have to tell DVC owners about this when it's within the "breakage" time (60 days from check-in)?

Except it is not an increase in the number of guests. DVC typically runs at or near 100% occupancy year-round. That’s how timeshares work. So, what difference does it make if the villa is occupied by an owner or a family that Disney moved there? The rooms are fully occupied either way.

It's a bad resort for us - obviously that isn't going to be true for everyone.
It's a bad resort for us bc we have a handicapped child - and only 2 of the buildings have elevators. It is also very spread out, which is inconvenient when traveling with a child in a wheelchair.
I also lived in the Keys for a while when I was a kid. The theming of the resort is not something I'm interested in. Everybody has a resort they dislike. I'm not sure why you took my dislike personally.
Thank you for explaining. It will help others as they decide about whether the resorts work for them.

I am hoping that is a good sign -- if there is an announcement coming soon, they don't want to "leak" it by changing or confirming reservations.
I'm hoping that this means that all resorts open July 5 and resort guests get to preview the parks. Ha, if only it was true! With a July 7 reservation, it just doesn't make sense that Disney is not letting us make modifications yet!

Since SAB has been closed for several months now, where is that money? Can't that go to cover the costs to reopen SAB?

The way it works with DVC is that the share of costs is shared based on occupancy. Disney would not be paying their share and DVCM may not have the authority to tell them they have to open, even if willing to pay it all.

With resorts closed, and WDW shut down, Disney had no income, so there was no real savings in the end,

What has Disney not been upfront about? Moving guests? Read your contract...all rooms are fair game at 60 days or less to be used for cash,

Sorry, Disney doesn’t have to run their plans by DVC owners if they are following the rule. Plus, my being upfront was Disney letting all guests know what will and will not be the experience by posting it on their website, DVC included a link to it all on the website,

And with that, I am not going to get into back and forth anymore about DVC being independent from Disney and the workings of ownership.

So I went ahead and magic band ordered for my trip in 30 days (maybe?). Worst case if the resort situation gets even more crazy I may have a souvenir from a trip I won't be on?

Actually, I never said they were upfront with DVC owners, I said Disney has been upfront with ALL guests regarding plans of what will and will not be open.

Have they been slow? Yes....but once info has been posted, it is been a fair assessment of what to expect. See my previous post about the other aspect.

Called this am. Still not dealing with departures after July 11. When???
Same. Called this morning as our check-in is supposed to be July 5 and since the check-out is July 12th, they wouldn't change anything. The person I spoke to said it'd be a few days until they're ready to deal with my dates but of course, that's subject to change.

Possibly... it was reported elsewhere that in-park CMs were being called back June 28, which is exactly a week before July 5. So it would make sense if they were planning on one week for training on the new Covid measures, one week of previews, and then park opening.

If they are moving people with dates through July 11th, then I do not see them opening any WDW hotels prior to that date.

I think the reason, from reports, they may not be dealing with people who will be there once parks opne is the ticket issue. Sounded like. if a guest had a stay during non park and park times, they had to give up tickets,

I wonder if it has to do with the park reservation system. It will only pick up trips with that July 11th date?

This has nothing to do with breakage, which is capped at 2.5% of a DVC Resort's budget. In other words, Disney pockets 100% of any DVC Resort revenue gained through cash rentals once this revenue reaches 2.5.% of that DVC Resort's total budget. DVC Resort revenue from breakage often reaches this 2.5% cap, thus the excess funds Disney collects from this additional revenue goes fully to corporate Disney, not to reduce DVC Maintenance Fees. As a result, DVC members pay costs caused by these non-DVC members (e.g. additional staff, wear-and-tear, etc.) without being compensated for it. When you rent a hotel room from Disney, Disney pays those costs. Because of the 2.5% cap, DVC members end up paying those costs.

This has to do with informing DVC members that the timeshares that they own at are going to be much more crowded than they would thing based on availability on the DVC member website.

All of us (both DVC and non-DVC members) are being crammed into the few resorts that Disney is legally obligated to reopen because of Florida timeshare statues.

And because of the 2.5% cap, DVC members are bearing the cost.

I really wish the DRC CM could all get on the same page. I am a former DRC CM so I still have contacts within DRC and I talked to 6 different CMs and got different stories from each lol Ive heard more resorts will come online Aug1. Ive heard POP will be open for my dates of aug 21 thru 30th. Ive heard as we have seen that they will move you at no cost unless you are changing dates. Another one said youd have to pay ( but he sounded very confused he didnt even know they had been doing moves for free) Its just a mess! Im trying to be patient but wanted some peace of mind..
