Resort Change by Disney

We understand that some of those staying at DVC resorts will not be DVC members. However, through July 10 or perhaps even later, it's possible that (for the first time) the major of those staying at DVC Resorts will be non-DVC members.

The issue is one of social distancing. Social distancing becomes much harder as Disney transfers more Guests into DVC Resorts. Being selfish, I want to be able to go to pool or the food court at my Home Resort without having to wait for a bunch of non-DVC members to clear out.

It's more profitable for corporate Disney but makes for a less pleasant DVC stay for me. Normally, I would not care but with social distancing, I very much do.

Those “non DVC members” didn’t ask to be in the position to have to use “your pool”. We’re all having to make adjustments here.

If they weren’t using the DVC resorts for non-DVC guests, you wouldn’t have a resort all to yourself—they would just open fewer resorts and consolidate guests like they are doing for Jambo.

At any given time there are plenty of non-dvc guest renting points in addition to cash guests. Seems silly to expect DVC guests at the same resort to have priority over non-DVC guests.

Think of it this way—I once paid rack rates at the poly because I had to reschedule a bit due to a death in the family and last-minute options were slim. Should I have been treated any better than someone paying an AP or florida resident rate?

Starting mid July, DVC rooms are showing pretty booked, so same Issue with social distancing, regardless of who is in the rooms,

Right now, those at closed resorts will be moved to open resorts, and if someone is concerned about number of guests, they will have to decide It’s impact for themselves.

Just to clarify, the only reason they can leave Jambo closed legally is because they opened Kidani which is part of the same DVC resort. All others had to be opened, so they could not consolidate.

Don’t want to derail the thread with DVC...point is that Disney has decided to not open their own hotels and use the open DVC rooms...which they are entitled to use...in lieu of canceling out cash guests who still want to come,

It will be interesting as to what the plan is starting with guests staying once parks open.

I’m wondering if they are getting closer to just opening up reservations to everyone soon at open resorts just after this current round of modifications.

I certainly hope not! They haven’t made it through all of the reservations that are less than a month away that still need to be modified. Many people have reservations starting July 5th or later that check out after the 11th that haven’t had a chance to modify their trips yet. Cutting it close.

Wait, WHAT??? They let you keep your 35% off? I bet that is gonna make a lot of people MAD who wanted to move their dates but we’re told they have to pay RACK RATE if they did so (the June 22-July 4 crew)!!!!

Don’t get me wrong I’m glad you could! But we are talking crazy levels of inconsistency now. I think I’ve heard everything !! (But then again I bet it gets crazier!!!)

Prior to park opening reservations: Keep your current dates and get moved for free to a DVC resort of Disney’s picking. Move your dates and pay rack rate.

Free dining (of any kind, bounce back, regular booking booked in January, or FD recovery): keep dates and receive a 35% discount or modify dates from now until the end of the yr and receive 35%.

No idea why they are only honoring FD discounts. I’m just glad I talked my husband into not canceling b/c at least we have some options.

I’m a bit behind so these things may have already been made.

Do you know for sure that Jambo is going to stay closed? I know I saw a report of one person being moved, but I think that was before they opened availability for people to make DVC reservations there.

This is not an issue of the non-DVC members.

This is an issue of corporate Disney deciding to keep all of its hotels closed for several weeks.

This is not entirely accurate.

Timeshare owners are protected by Florida statute. Disney is opening all of its DVC Resorts because of their legal obligation. (Although physically separate buildings and DVC members are deeded to one or the other, Jambo House and Kidani Village are one timeshare as incorporated by Florida statute. By opening one or the other, Disney is satisfying its legal obligation to both. Once Animal Kingdom Villas demand exceeds Kidani Village capacity, then Disney faces another issue. But this seems unlikely to happen before July 10.)

Disney has no such legal issues with its hotels. Disney can open these whenever they want. Disney is keeping its hotels closed and moving hotel Guests to DVC Resorts to save corporate Disney money.

Regardless of where you get moved to, with Disney enforcing social distancing, particularly as it relates to pool capacity, wouldn't it be nice to be able to just go to the pool and get a chair? The theme parks will be closed until July 11. Before then, I suspect the pools will be particularly in demand.

Disney needs to do something to make its pools more accessible to those staying onsite, not cramming all Guests into just a few DVC Resorts and making it harder for everyone to relax at the pool.

Yes. However, beginning on July 11, the theme parks will open. The theme parks will almost certainly draw the majority of onsite Guests.

Until the theme parks open, the primary onsite entertainment are the pools.

Disney pools get pretty crowded when the theme parks are open. What are they going to be like with the theme parks closed?

Jambo is not opening yet. DVC bookings never shut down and the removal of Jambo rooms is being reported by DVC as a glitch.

Someone mentioned elsewhere that a CM told them July 10th...but nothing has been confirmed for an open date for Jambo.

Well, they made the leisure pools 24 hours. I get that more resort openings would allow people to be spread out.

But, regardless of whether people agree, Disney has been upfront with people on what and how things are going to be. IMO, they have not sugar coated it at all,

So, anyone going prior to July 11th... myself included...should be going with very little expectations and have a go with the flow attitude.

Anyone who feels the set up isn’t a good one, as I have already said, has to decide whether it is worth it,

ETA: I am not suggesting people can’t vent frustration, but am responding to people thinking DVC owners should be upset at Disney’s plan.

Same here.
I am actually really close to cancelling my room ressie and renting a confirmed DVC reservation instead. There is one I've got my eye on. That way I at least know I'll be going to something acceptable for us. Because of the unique situation we travel under, this not knowing what's happening is very stressful. I asked my husband yesterday which would upset him more - if I cancel the reservation and book dvc only to find that our hotel opens after all, or if we do nothing and get sent to a bad resort like SSR or OKW. He's still thinking about that.
Bad resort??? OKW is my home resort and not even close to "Bad" and I have stayed at almost all of them.

I think it has to do with costs. The amount of hotel rooms at BC is more than the number of dvc rooms. If the hotel doesn't open, then ALL the cost of operating SAB falls on DVC, and it's owners. When the hotel is open the majority of the costs of operating SAB falls on the hotel.
Since SAB has been closed for several months now, where is that money? Can't that go to cover the costs to reopen SAB?

Someone may have already answered this question. Do we have to pay the difference when we are upgraded? We have a reservation for July 19th. Also, are we allowed to add people to our reservation? We booked POP. We currently only have one person on that reservation. Thanks!

You don’t have to pay the difference if you keep your dates. I can’t speak to adding people.

Disney has not been upfront about this to DVC members.

Based on availability on the DVC member site, I could reasonably assume the DVC Resorts are going to be mostly empty before July 11.

Instead, Disney is moving its cash Guests to DVC Resorts and not informing its DVC members about this. At no point has Disney been "open" to DVC members about this. We are finding out about this through disboards.com.

It's a bad resort for us - obviously that isn't going to be true for everyone.
It's a bad resort for us bc we have a handicapped child - and only 2 of the buildings have elevators. It is also very spread out, which is inconvenient when traveling with a child in a wheelchair.
I also lived in the Keys for a while when I was a kid. The theming of the resort is not something I'm interested in. Everybody has a resort they dislike. I'm not sure why you took my dislike personally.

Why is this such a problem for you? If the rooms are going to be empty regardless.

Not in their shoes but if you picked a vacation based on dvc availability looking for a quiet getaway you certainly weren’t notified by disney about the increased guests - the prior comment was that op responded to was that disney had been upfront about changes to dvc owners.
