Resort Change by Disney

I agree, Deluxe resorts are definitely not upgrading and Disney had no choice but to upgrade moderates and values in the move- their intention isn't to compensate people for the loss of their resort.

What bothers me about my move is they found a resort to move me to that they could justify keeping the cost of my CL plan. I would've much preferred being moved to another DVC property like OKW and being refunded my CL costs. I have seen a couple of moves from BC to FW and I would hope those were at least refunded a good portion of their costs. But it's take or leave it and for at least most of us, they aren't allowing any options.

I think that is why we are seeing that no choice option to prevent the complaints that X happened, and I want it too.

But, yeah, it does put people in a tough spot as deluxe guests to pay what they are paying if they don’t see the new resort as comparable.

I was just thinking last night that we've not heard a ton of reports about where deluxes are being moved to. We're at WL and I would hope we'd get moved to another MK resort that isn't the cabins...

My husband has said he's fine with being moved as long as it's not to a cheaper resort.

This report is surprising to me. I would not be happy to be traded off from a deluxe resort to a moderate (my least favorite moderate at that).

We have a reservation coming up in late July at Beach Club and will be interested to see what happens. A switch to FW is probably not something we'd be excited about or see value in. We're still unsure overall if we want to move forward with a trip but this would probably decide it for us.

I'm really hoping GF is open and I don't have to worry about it, but if not, we're the same. I have 2 rooms, and I booked GF intentionally because of the 2Q + daybed setup. That gives us 6 real beds. If we get moved to 2 studios somewhere, most have sofa beds or the beds under the TV that only fit a small child. I do have one that could sleep there (my 7yr old) but my 10yr old is 5'5" and too big for those beds.

The under-TV Murphy beds at the DVC resorts seem to be larger than the ones at POR. I am an adult (5'5") and I slept comfortably on the under-TV bed at the Polynesian. Also, my friend and I took a girls trip last summer and she slept on the under-TV bed at Beach Club and was comfortable. I believe the under-TV Murphy bed at Riviera is a regular twin bed.

You'd still have the sofa bed issue, but hopefully the under-TV bed won't cause problems.

DFB posted pics that skyliner cars are back on the lines. Skyliner is practically designed for social distant transportation. Alternatively how many busses will they need to run to maintain social distancing if the skyliner is not working? Disney knows it. It’s also their newest toy.
I hope the skyliner is running, but my guess is they will have to clean them each time people get out.

I was surprised too. Just a guess, but I bet with those getting that move, they’re more like me- had a significant discount and it made comparing what I paid for my deluxe to the rack rate of the new resort easier to justify.

I would refuse that move as well, regardless of if there were a refund involved or not. We’ve been tossing the idea around of just going for a few days to hit the AP preview, but this latest move by Disney was the last nail in the coffin. I’ve finally reached the tipping point. I’ll admit, giving up my daughters sweet deal at OKW hurts a little, but I’m just so off Disney right now I want to be done with it and move on.

Well we are holding out for either CBR or Jambo with all of AKL open. Boardwalk is a consideration. I think I’d even do pop if skyliner was working. Not happy with the thought of resorts they are giving people.
Same here.
I am actually really close to cancelling my room ressie and renting a confirmed DVC reservation instead. There is one I've got my eye on. That way I at least know I'll be going to something acceptable for us. Because of the unique situation we travel under, this not knowing what's happening is very stressful. I asked my husband yesterday which would upset him more - if I cancel the reservation and book dvc only to find that our hotel opens after all, or if we do nothing and get sent to a bad resort like SSR or OKW. He's still thinking about that.

I have 2 rooms at GF 7/18. I checked yesterday and to book the same dates at Four Seasons is only a $25 difference (total, not per night). Im debating holding rooms there too just in case Disney moves us and Im expected to pay the same rate for a downgraded room.

Beach Club is going to be open. Why would you get switched? Am I missing something?

Beach Club villas (DVC) will be open. No non DVC have been confirmed except Fort Wilderness.
Hasn't it been pretty much confirmed that people are being moved to DVC, and very likely that Disney will use the breakage clause to move non DVC to the same resort, provided that it's open?

You have certainly been through the ringer with this whole process 😟. I don't blame you at all for being done with it.

People are being moved yes, but there's no guarantee that a person booked at BC will be moved to BCV. It's all on what's available.

Poly is one of my DVC home resorts and have stayed in their studios several times, so we're familiar with them. Out of all the sofa beds, Polynesians is probably the better one, but the under tv bed is still much smaller that the GF bed

Poly under tv beds are 29"x67" (per DVC website)
PO under tv beds are 33"x66" (per Disney mom panels page)
Twin bed (which is what the daybed at GF has) is 39"x75"

Nor would I. I grew up with camping being the only vacations we ever took. No weeks at the beach. No hotels with swimming pools and game rooms. I know people love it, but I’m not one of them. The FW cabins don’t look like fun to me. Now, if they were upgrading to Cascade Cabins at WL, that would be another story. They’re on my Disney bucket list.

This is a great point. I have not heard anything from anyone on here that was booked at GF, WL, CR or Poly during these times. ( June 22 on out....) what is happening with them? Are they just being cancelled or are they offering them to be moved?
I’ve read of one CR guest being moved to BLT and another was moved to a Poly studio. Nothing from WL guests (I would guess that BRV would be offered if available, but I have not read of anyone being moved there). It would be hard to move anyone from GF to VGF because it is so small and tends to get booked up by DVC members.

ETA: I’ve also read two reports of YC/BC guests being moved to cabins at FW.

I have BWI starting 7/18. I will definitely update if others haven't. I am hoping they will move us to a BWV studio, because we are already renting points for a BWV studio for 7/12-18. Staying in the same room even would be nice. Technically, a studio isn't an upgrade from a regular BWV room for some. It wouldn't bother us, because there are only 3 of us; we only need 2 beds. DS doesn't mind the sofabed at all. I am getting nervous that they will cancel the BWI part of our trip if there are no rooms available by the time they get to us. It's hard to tell what will be available then. I am also game for pretty much anything that has 2 real beds. We have never stayed at most of the DVC or the cabins and will have a car.

Same here.

If you rent points, you need to be sure that you have insurance or a guarantee of a refund. Most DVC rentals do not have this. Neither of mine for this year do, and my previous didn't either. Plus, you need to be sure that insurance would cover for reasons that you might cancel. Otherwise, you need to be fine with potentially losing all of that money. Be sure to rent at one of the DVC that we believe to be open, ie not Jambo. Good luck!

I can only give you my experience. We were at CR Tower (Theme Park view) for 7/5 - 7/11. We moved our reservation to check in on 8/5. When I called, the first option was moving us to BLT to stay within the resort and there was availability.. The CM told me they were trying to keep people in the same property, if they could. He then asked us about FW cabins. My family decided they wanted to try to Poly if we could not stay in the CR Tower and got a Studio at the Poly. We did not ask about GF.

Right now, Disney is moving to DVC and Ft only. Yes, there is rumor that they will be opening the hotel sides before other non DVC resorts, but until they do, it will only be DVC.

Yeah, I know the risks involved. But since we have non refundable plane tix already, we are unlikely to cancel unless something catastrophic happens, so the risk is acceptable.
