Resort Change by Disney

My last question, why do so many people on this thread seem to doubt the rumor from travel agents and supervisors that we will be moved? I know things change A LOT but why are we doubting this so much? Lol
I think what it comes down to is that we don’t know yet *if* and *when* non-DVC resorts will reopen. We don’t know how many reservations they have in their books, and if they decide not to open all the resorts if they can move *everyone* or if some reservations will need to be cancelled. We just don’t know. We only know that some TAs have been told their clients will be moved to DVC and there won’t be a choice of resorts.

I will say this though. Allowing those with June 5-20th reservations to move their dates to July11-Dec to DVC and FW (at the prevalent rates) reduces the pool of available rooms. That may not be a bad thing. They may decide to open up more resorts. But, they are not providing free upgrades nor recovery offers to those who have been cancelled and are looking to move to later dates this year.

Here is a summary of what is known/not known:

The parks open in 35 days and people still don't know what's happening with their vacations. It's really frustrating.

Just a little communication from Disney would go a long way, but they don’t seem to be willing to do that. I have 1 reservation I’ve been hanging on to out of the many I made trying to predict the opening - I missed for the most part. lol

It’s at the Riviera for 7/8-7/10 using an AP discount. I had no intention of using it, but now it honestly just occurred to us yesterday that those dates might just coincide with an AP preview. We’ve been contemplating going to the dark side, and if we did, I’d swallow all my complaints and do the preview. If I touch that reservation, I lose those discounts, so dates are what they are. We definitely don’t have our hopes up, but it’s a new twist we hadn’t considered.

So now, we sit and wait.

My thing is why would Disney send me this if they were going to cancel on me?

Preface this by saying that I hope you don't get cancelled, because that really sucks. However, I saw a few people post (don't remember in what thread but probably somewhere the 1k+ long rumors and news thread) that they got the email with no tickets and no reservations on the books. Heck, I got the email and I have no tickets (yet the email saying I have a valid theme park admission). Apparently six versions of the email went out and a mish mosh of people got different emails with slightly different wording, but who were in the same booking situations. So honestly, take that with at least six grains of salt because it doesn't have as much weight as you're probably thinking it does.

I hope your trip works out for you, but unfortunately many of us have little faith in Disney IT. Here's why:

-they are still sending canned emails for final payments due 30 days out when we know it's 7 days now
-some people are getting the "access to reservations first" emails while others aren't, even though eligible
-some people have gotten emails regarding their reservations over the past few months being cancelled and others haven't, even though they fell in the closure period
-some people have gotten emails with updated emails on paid Dining Plans that have been cancelled, others haven't
-people without valid tickets or reservations have gotten emails saying "since they have valid tickets and resort reservations" they'll get first access

the list goes on and on. Emails, or the lack of, seem to signify absolutely nothing right now. Disney has tons of gremlins in their machines.

What a time to be alive.......lol. Honestly, we could all save a lot of money by not going and just riding the roller coaster of news/no news from Disney.

Because right now, no decision has been made to when resorts will open and they said cancellations will happen within 7 days from trip if the resort remains closed.

Technically, right now, they aren’t cancelling anyone earlier than that...so they treating those with tickets and rooms in the group that will be eligible for first phase or so in securing park reservations.

Personally, unless someone is at a confirmed resort...DVC and Ft Wilderness....every reservation is vulnerable for either cancel or move, depending on dates, and depending on when Disney moves to open their resorts,

Yes, the plan last week was to move guests to open resorts. I would take that as a sign that all is not lost...but by no means, hard and fast since Disney reps specially said, everything is subject to change.

In order to rebook could you do dec 26-Jan 1? And would we need to pay an increase in price if the rate is higher then?

i see your points but here’s the biggest point I’ll make- . I can't imagine they'd let June people rebook for mid July onward if they were maxed out to the point of needing to cancel people. Obviously, they’re thinking the can accommodate in some way

Well, I strongly disagree. It would b ignorant of Disney to let people with June reservations reschedule for July if they’re not thinking they can compensate or deal with those of us in July

I’ll stop posting on this thread but my frustration comes to the point that even though travel agents were told last week we will be moved if there’s resort closures and now June bookings can move to July.. y’all seem to think there’s a huge chance I could be cancelled just simply based on your own logic and lack of faith in Disney. Right now, it’s unreasonable to believe what the travel agents heard is wrong unless we actually hear by word of Disney otherwise it is..

Why? At this point, every reservation at WDW hotels not DVC and Ft Wilderness are in the same boat...at a closed resort.

It seems like they are doing based on dates, and offering those whose trips are impacted first, first chance to modify..nothing they do will be fair to all..but some level of priority is always going to take place.

The good news is that being later in July, you still have a chance to see your resort open...June guests do not.

Correct. But, yesterday’s move was not part of the info shared last week, so they obviously adjusted things. I agree that until we got confirmation one way or the other, you should stay hopeful.

What was yesterday’s move ? That they announced nothing

I just don’t know what you mean by yesterday’s move? U think the fact that they didn’t announce is bad,

Allowing June reservations to modify, instead of canceling them like they had been doing,

That was new because last week, all Disney did was cancel. But this week, the email sent to impacted guests said they could now call and modify.

Honestly, These kind of moves are not going to be put out by Disney on their website...it will be included with direct contact with guests.

I even believe if they move someone it will be done by call or email and not something Disney puts out to public as a general “this is what we are doing”

It’s possible that even though they have not notified guests yet, they’ve determined that they will still have some availability after moving those who have reservations at closed resorts during the first phase. It was only within the past few days that DVC inventory has been turned over as breakage to CRO for July/early August.

The remaining cash inventory for the rest of the year is subject to the same limitations as always...Disney can take DVC villas using the 2%-3% of points that they own and use them for cash reservations, they can book at Riviera using undeclared points from the developer and they can book any DVC villas that have been turned over to CRO by DVC when a member uses their points for the Disney Collection, ABD or DCL.

IOW, there won’t be a huge number of DVC villas available to book with cash. But I don’t expect that there will be too many guests who booked Value and Moderate resorts to jump on the offer. Those who already had DVC villas booked for cash and some Deluxe Resort guests might take Disney up on the offer.

Actually, I think yesterdays move could mean the opposite. It may mean they don’t know if they can move everyone and thus, decided to go in order of canceled trips to offer open DVC and Ft, Wilderness to them...at rack rate.

They only have X amount of rooms at the known resorts opening...way less than their own resorts...

Obviously, as soon as they announce opening of any other resorts, the pool of rooms is larger and makes the moves more likely.

But, what I see, I’d guess based on moves so far is that values and moderates appear to be the places that would open later...And deluxe hotels owned by Disney may be next in line, after DVC and Ft Wilderness to open.

I think everyone is making well thought out and valid points! I really have no idea what the right train of thought is. The hopeful part of me thinks maybe we are the minority (disney enthusiasts willing to experience a very different Disney World). Would the average vacationer be willing to pay the price / take the risks for such a modified vacation? The pessimist in me fears the worst. I guess time will tell... I am insanely impatient and worried as there is no way I can afford to pay Deluxe rack rates.
