Resort availability board

I'm not naive enough to think that those numbers are 100% accurate but I did notice very few dates that are closes at VGC. Should that fill me with hope that I will be able to book at 7 months for Spring 2010 or am I looking through rose colored glasses?

Rose-colored glasses. I've frequently tried to book times that had great availability on the board and only been able to get a night here and there, or waitlisted, etc. The small subset of DVC members who post on the DIS who remember to report unavailability is just not large enough to accurately depict the situation in many cases.

Someone on another thread, made a good point that the availability board is most useful to show what is NOT available. If someone takes the time to report unavailability, that is most likely accurate or indicative of limited availability around those dates.

I guess we could call it the UNAVAILABILITY board.

I have posted to it when the THV sold out for Christmas/NYE 2009 on the first day of booking.

So you could say, that a date(s) missing from the board just says no one has reported it yet.

Caskbill did a great job with the programming of this board, and it does serve a purpose in showing dates reported as unavailable.

I've looked at it as a way to see what books up first. That's also not very accurate. The other thing it doesn't account for is cancellations, unless we assume all cancellations go toward W/L or are re-booked instantly.

All in all...it's better than nothing...but you still can't really tell what availability there is. The only way to do that is if there was online booking through DVC. We can always hope!

I use it to see what is NOT available before I call and get my hopes up.
