Do I have reason to be concerned? We cancelled our DVC rental a couple of weeks ago with the broker from whom we originally purchased because my entire family backed out of traveling due to COVID. It was made back in January B4 COVID reared it's ugly head. Anyway, the reservation is still showing in MDE when I log in. I am only the "guest", and not the owner who made the reservation. This reservation showed up in MDE within minutes when we bought the rental, but now it is just lingering there. I do not want to be responsible for any liability or expenses with Disney because they are still showing me as having that room reservation. All my other reservations with Disney (i.e.: ADRs) have been cancelled. We are certainly not traveling to Florida or checking in to the resort. Would appreciate your advice. What should I do, if anything?

Since you cancelled with the rental agency, I wouldn't worry about it. The owner probably hasn't actually cancelled the reservation and either the rental agency or the owner is trying to find someone else to take it over. The reservation may linger on your MDE until the owner cancels it or changes something.

In any case, I don't see anything for you to worry about. Disney will not hold you responsible for anything associated with that reservation. Sorry you had to cancel, but I'm sure your family made the decision to do what is best for them. Stay well.

The way it works with DVC, from what I was recently told is that if the guest doesn’t show up within 2 days, it should be canceled.

That is what happened to my renter who didn’t go but never notified me.

As Carol mentioned, I would not worry!

I understand your concern. We were in a similar situation a few years back when we rented at BLT and cancelled. It stayed in our name - even received a room assignment sent to us on checkin day because we had entered mobile check in info before we cancelled. While it was all fine in the end, it felt strange and I kept wondering if someone spent a week in a 2br on us....*which I assume isn't possible

It is possible if there is room to add another guest. All an owner needs to is add guests. They can then legally check in even if the original renter does not.

But, in most cases, owners cancel the trip if they know the renter is not going...unless with a broker and in that case, one is not allowed to cancel it.

Make sure you remove your credit card info if you did online checkin. I rented a confirmed reservation from a broker that the original renter didn’t want. It was transferred to my name by the owner, but when I went to do online checkin, the original renters credit card info was still listed. I changed it to my credit card, but it could have been bad for the original renter if I hadn’t changed it.

Thanks everyone for the help. I feel a little better now. I didn't do online check-in with this reservation, but have with others in the past. So I removed my credit card info from my MDE profile. I also decided to send Disney an email as a courtesy letting them know my party will not check in, but haven't heard back from them. Based on what I'm seeing online, the broker has relisted the rental, but they've jacked up the price 25% above what I paid, which I find amazing.

My rental reservation didn’t leave my MDE until it was rented to another party and they linked it in their MDE account.
