I am looking into buying resale and wondering how is the fastest and safest to use? I am looking into Fidelity bc they have the best listing for me but not sure of their customer service.... TIA

Three month wait no matter who you use. I didn't know that fidelity was still selling DVC?

Yes sir they don't have nearly as many contracts as the other dvc resales though.

The broker you choose really has very little to do with the speed at which your contract closes. There are three hangups in the system....1)Disney in getting your ROFR and estoppel through, 2)your closing company in getting your closing documents to you, and 3)Disney once again in getting your contract transferred to you and getting you your member number. There is absolutely NOTHING you can do about the Disney parts of it, and very little if nothing you can do about the speed at which your closing complany works....other than lucking up and getting one that's not backlogged as heck (good luck with that).

If you go into the process thinking it will be a 3-4 month ordeal, you'll be much better off than going into it thinking it will be only a month or two.

I bought through dvcbyresale. I put in an offer 10/22/15, will hopefully receive my member number any day now.
The whole process took about 4 months.

I bought from fidelity twice. This was before they lost their preferred status with Disney. They were fine. The price was right. They aren't the best communicators but I was ok with that.

I have my contracts. I stay on site now. That's all that matters to me.

My brother just bought from fidelity. Talk about a long drawn out scenario. Again, the price was right.

The only think I can say about Fidelity is make sure you know that the price they list on their website isn't necessarily the true price of the property. It's more like a "the bidding begins here" price.

Whenever they tried to get me into a bidding situation, I just said no. Not sure if this is their standard practice now. Last time we bought was over a year ago.

The most important thing is to find a contract size and use year that will do what you need it to do.

If you're trying to buy quickly to get that next trip under your belt this is usually not a good idea. You're likely far better off renting and spending more time investigating. It'll take some time to get through the process and then availability is likely to be limited after 7 months out and often before for many options/times.

I agree with Dean. If you're looking for resale, 'quick' isn't usually the reason. I'm on my second resale purchase and other than (maybe) an overseas seller, the major 'slow' component is Disney, not usually the company.

It seems like the newest broker may have acquired that but I don't know if there's been any verifying reports on it. They are apparently former guides and seemed to jump quickly into the game with lots of listings. Mainly, if an owner inquires with Disney about selling the preferred is the broker Disney will refer the owner too. Also if they are behind in payments or dues too. I believe they may pay a "finders" fee to DVC.

From a members standpoint (either buyer or seller) I don't think it makes any difference at all. I'm not aware of any benefit. With one timeshare company using the "preferred" resale company can make the resale points qualified if the price hits a certain threshold but that's not currently true with DVC.

Preferred meant that Disney referred any member who wanted to sell their contract to that "preferred broker" when the member asked for a brokers name to sell through. As a result, fidelity used to have a healthy number of listings. No more.

However, from a buyers standpoint, the preferred status is irrelevant. Buy or bid on the contract that suits your needs best, so long as you're going with a legit broker (there are 5? 6? 7? Out there).

My personal advice is to stay away from eBay listings, as they could be fraudulent.

I recently dealt with Fidelity after having purchased a resale contract with them two years ago. The agent I had was quite good and got the sellers to agree to my price without a bidding war of any kind. Unfortunately DVC exercised ROFR. When I saw another contract come through that I wanted, apparently the phone lines were blowing up and the seller ended up taking a price over the advertised price, but everyone submitted a bid at once and the contract sold in under 25 minutes. So may just depend on the contract (and its popularity). Unfortunately, the number of contracts that Fidelity has currently is a lot less than two years ago, but their pricing still tends to be fairly good.

In our search, I had originally bid on a contract from Fidelity but the owner was taking way too long to respond (over 2 weeks) so I had to go with another broker when a similar contract had been posted.

Fidelity did keep in contact through the process but the seller must not have been motivated. That contract is still available when I checked the site.

Two weeks is crazy! One of the brokers I work with told me the seller is supposed to reply by 24 hours!

Fidelity isn't the best at communicating but I've gotten some decent deals.

Over a year ago, fidelity finally called me back 2 weeks after my initial offer. I presented my offer end of November 2014, before thanksgiving. Then, December 8th or so, while at Disney for our annual trip, I got a voicemail saying they accepted my offer. I remember being totally weirded out because I hadn't heard anything for weeks.

They didn't even counteroffer.

Suffice it to say, it was under market so I wasn't displeased.

Then the seller took weeks or even a month to sign their end. I e in was so scared they would back out because the market was definitely simmering by then. I was so sure they would pull the rug from under me. We finally closed in February, with points loaded sometime in March, I was relieved.

never say never. Sometimes it's a good thing if you don't recieve a response.
