Renting points?

Hi Everyone! I hope this is the right place to post. We are going on our first ever trip in October. And I am already starting to dream of all the future trips we could take. I have heard many good things about different DVC locations and wanting to know how to do that without buying in. Now I found that I could rent points. But how do I found out how much our stay would be. (I know the trade/rent board for renting points) But how do I know how many points a place needs. Or if there is any availability for such? I hope I'm not confusing everyone. Thanks again in advance.

you really should start by reading this:

availability can only be checked by a DVC owner...but do be aware that since DVC is a timeshare, it tends to be booked up by owners well in advance. if you start asking for a reservation 3-4 months out, you may not find much availability.

thank you both very much for this information. This really does clear some things up for me and opens up another set of ideas with coming back to WDW in the future. Must work on saving and planning first lol. Then will find somewhere to stay.

Most members make their reservations at 7 to 11 months out. Oct, Nov, Dec and early Jan are very busy times for DVC.

You really won't be renting points, you'll be renting a reservation from a member who made the reservation using their points. So it's a deal between you and an individual. Disney will not get involved in any way. The member decides how much they want to charge and you either accept it or not.

Cancelling or changing the reservation is very nearly impossible.
