Hey,

If I'm staying at DVC on points I've rented, do I get any perks? I've seen conflicting info on the valet parking in particular.

Thanks!

Well, you're not supposed to get the free valet. Your room key will say DVC member, but you could be asked for your DVC card. I guess not all members carry the cards around, we do, so we can produce it. I don't know if they will ask you for it, or what they will do if you don't have it with you.

You are not entitled to any of the DVC member perks, but may well get some based on your room key. Just be aware that if you are turned down for something like free valet parking or a restaurant discount you are not losing something you should be getting.

I have had valet parking attendants request my blue card at least on three separate occasions. Maybe I just look shifty. :confused3

While you will receive all the standard perks of staying onsite (Magical Express, Extra Magic Hours, etc.), renters are not supposed to be able take advantage of DVC member perks such as discounts, free valet parking, etc. Sometimes the CM just looks at your room card, and sometimes they ask to see your blue DVC membership card.

The only DVC perk you are entitled to is a great room at a low price. That's it.

We were two for two on needing it last time - dining at Marrakesh (although I may have just put it down with the bill and it may not have been asked for) and pool hopping to the Poly (but we were OBVIOUSLY hopping - i.e. we showed up in park clothes, changed in the poolside bathroom, and had a big stack of stuff with us sitting by the pool - had we exercised discretion - maybe we wouldn't have gotten carded.)

Don't want to pool hop and I have a DDE and an AP for discounts. Just was interested in valet parking cause a DVC owner told me valet was included (not who I'm renting from BTW) and then I read a post on another board and someone else was told no bu a diff owner. So I was really confused.

Thanks!

I'm a DVC member and I just got back from a stay at the BWV and BCV. DVC member was not on my room key this stay as it had been in the past. I was asked for my blue membership card to get any perks I was using including valet parking.

There really is no need for confusion. These are DVC member perks. If you were a member, you would get them, too. Since you are not a member, you are not entitled to them. Enjoy your stay.

Deb,

I'm not trying to get anything I'm not entitled to get. I'm sorry if it came across that way. :)

I was just confused cause I've read and had other DVC owners tell me that DVC point renters get the same benefits as DVC owners except for pool hopping and AP ticket discount. I've even had a DVC owner tell me that I can have 5 in the studio I'm renting which I know isn't right. So there's lots of miscommunication out there and I was just trying to get the correct info before I check in.

Thanks for setting the record straight.

:)

There is a lot of misinformation out there, compounded by the fact that renters room keys have typically said "DVC Member" and based off that they've typically been able to get perks without question - though they've never been entitled to them. So you get a lot of "I didn't have any problem two years ago so it must be that its OK" which occationally leads to renters being disappointed by not getting something - or treated 'shabbily' by being asked for additional proof of member status when using the perk (which IS embarrassing) - or even worse, throwing a fit about something they believe they are entitled to, which they aren't. And Disney does seem to have tightened up on 'carding' for membership over the past several years.

The best rule of thumb is to assume DVC perks won't apply to you, and if you are lucky enough to get a CM who notices the DVC member on your room key and chooses not to charge you, chalk it up to Disney magic.

You're right there is a lot of confusion. I know of one member who tells her renters they will get ALL of her perks. Just trying to make a sale I guess. Renters don't usually know any better so they believe what their member tells them which often leads to disappointment or embarassment down the line. You did the right thing coming here to check it out.
