Rental Reservations Cancelled

What a mess it's going to be if someone rents points and then at some point down the road Disney determines the transaction to be an abuse of the policies.....money has already changed hands, maybe plane tickets are purchased.....this could become a real mess.

I'm sure Disney does not want this to happen, but this is the chance a renter takes when renting from someone else instead of reserving rooms directly from Disney. JMO

I have been doing a lot of thinking about this. Dvc accepted the reservation. I do believe a lot of trouble could occur if canellations started. How can they tell who is my first cousin, daughter that is married, etc. I am really getting into this POS over the next week. Maybe there will be a lawyer that owns a piece of the Magic.

I've seen it said that 98% of members will not be affected by these changes/enforcement to policy. I agree with that percentage. Hypothetically speaking, what if the 2% that are not happy bring Disney to court with big money lawyers, causing a long, drawn out court battle; the end result being that all DVC's are either sold or converted to regular resorts. I know, won't happen, but it could, is that what everyone wants. I hope not. JMO

I don't think they would cancel an innocent renter's reservation.

The point they would start cancelling would be at the opening of the 11-month window for a prime-time booking period. I'm sure they already have the large renters identified who book ressies on spec, and those are the ones they'd target.

I guess the next big booking window to open would be F&W, which opens in October. That's when I'd expect them to use this tool. And very selectively and quietly.

Exactly, and this will work to Disney's advantage - coupled with the impossibility of a renter to verify a reservation, this will put a damper on the rental market. Who wants to rent from a potential commercial renter (nobody really has any way of knowing who Disney might tap) and risk having a reservation cancelled - especially when you can't check to see if the reservation is still valid.

I, for one, have no plans to rent again b/c I'm not willing to risk Disney cancelling my reservation. I will either be a DVC member by our next trip or stay in a "regular" room - either scenerio is a winning situation for Disney b/c they will get my $$$ from membership & dues or room rental.
