We've never gone to WDW during the Summer months before. As I have been researching rental car rates for our possible August trip I am finding them to be astronomically high, as compared to our multiple December trip rates and even thinking back to January and March rates we've gotten over the past few years. Is this just a result of recent increases?Or is it a seasonal thing? I have been monitoring the thread about "dates & rates" and I am seeing posts with rates better than I have been finding, but I am not yet seeing people post August dates. Am I too early? I know I reserved my car from National (with a phenominally great rate, $160 for 8 days) for our December trip last year in May.

Any and all advice and feedback welcomes...I mean NEEDED! Thanks!

I have a trip planned for middle of August and the car rentals are very high. I rented the same time last year and paid alot less. Maybe they will come down. Keep checking :D

I am looking for a rental from 7/30-8/14 (15 days). I currently have a ressie with National for a full sized car, at $464 (includes all fees). That is the best rate I've gotten so far.

Last time I booked in Orlando, it was April 2001, and for a 12 day full sized rental I paid $187 with all fees. I was spoiled! I'm considering trying Priceline closer in, if I can't find anything better!

I too usually go late july/ august and we have always gotten way better rates. national especially has out done themselves this year in over pricing. But i'm keeping glued to my computer. I presently have dollar reserved (for the 1st time) with a compact 17 days total 429.57. Not too bad but I would rather use national cause i'm use to them. Know they don't high pressure the insurance etc.. and know garage situation. Just checked hertz its off site but they got some pretty good rates, and giving a decent discount with the entertainment card. So that's an option too. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Just keep looking. MKY princess:

Car rates are much higher this year. We were in WDW in January and I had a rate of $162 for 8 days with National/Emerald. I compared this year's rate to last year and they seem to be running about $50 higher this year.

Emerald Isle/Immediate (will upgrade to fullsize if possible--as I have done in the past every trip.)

We have a 11 day rental reserved for April/May and my price is $299, including all taxes and fees. (This is using the Carlson code and a one day free coupon (22.99)).

We have a 11 day rental reserved for mid-July and my price is $303, incuding all taxes and fees. (This is using the Carlson code and a $20 coupon from BJs.)

I watch the budget and transportation boards regularly to any signs of dropping in price.

For a glimmer of hope, before I took my early Feb trip this year, the rental car price dropped several weeks before we left and I ended up with the $162 total for the 8 days, so I'm hoping that the prices will start to drop as my dates get closer.
