Rental car help using AARP

I have never rented a car before and I'm looking for some help. I'l be travelling with my Grandmother and wanted to use her AARP for the car rental discount. It offers a free additional driver and since I would be the ONLY one doing the driving (she's 83 and doesn't drive anymore) I wanted to see if there were any restrictions on who the additional driver is. Can it be for anyone? Since we don't live in the same house I want to make sure that it's ok for me to be the additional driver. Also, does AARP cover the rental insurance? I tried finding these answers on line but everything was pretty vague. Hope someone can help. Thank You.

You might want to think this through carefully. You said that she's 83 and doesn't drive anymore. If she doesn't have a valid driver's license, how can she be an additional driver?

She does have a valid driver's license and she can drive she just doesn't like to drive anymore (she's actually a very young and able bodied 83 year old.) Since it's her AARP card she would be listed as primary driver and I'm looking to be the additional driver but I'd actually be the only one doing the driving. Just trying to see if that is allowed.

I think you'll find a better discount than AARP. I would also be shocked if it included insurance. Your own car insurance should cover you while you drive a rental car.

I've checked all the codes and the best discounts have been Costco and AARP ID's with a $35.00 off coupon. I don't have a Costco card and didn't want to have to travel way out of my way if we could use the AARP card in the same manner.

Are you over 25? I think you are but I'm sorry I can't figure it out from your signature . I think that additional drivers must meet all car rental requirements and if you're younger than 25 you won't be able to drive.

If you don't have a Costco card you are not eligible for the discount.

Have you tried Budget with codes x474200 from Travelocity or Y937800 from the DIS?

with the COSTCO and AARP I can get a fullsize for a week with Alamo for around $160. I haven't found anything cheaper than that. Alamo is really the only rental I want to go through because I need to pick car up at MCO but return at the car care center...So, I just need to know if I can be included as additional driver on AARP.

You might want to check with rental agency. Some agencies have an upper age requirement and do not rent to those over 70 or 80.

I'd call to check. It's probably a situation that comes up often for them. Some companies have special rules for people who are driving someone who is considered disabled.
