Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I always enjoy your photos! 🤗
... thank you....my goal here is to share the culture and the colors and how I believe that this Colorado River flood basin was created to be the new Jordan...if you are ever in need of renewal... consider this corner of North America...it is really a wonder....I have been to the top of Mt Hood and the canyons of Joshua Tree.... but nothing compares to the desert blocks away

Cuddly things:
Blankets! - We have throw blankets all over our house, and everyone loves them, even the cat:

Beans:
Garbanzo beans (chick peas) as a way to easily add protein to a salad. I'm often guilty of forgetting to think about lunch until I'm past hungry, and easy salads make a quick fix!

Technology:
Texting - I find it so much more convenient than having to call for every little thing.

Cuddle Up Day...

My warm, fuzzy blanket. It's been cold here for months now, so I enjoy curling up at night with my book and my blankie... and sometimes a heating pad, for good measure.

"Sleepovers" with the Little Guy. He was here last night (gotta get him up for school in about 2 minutes). We each get into our jammies and curl up on my bed for a snuggle/cuddle while watching TV before his bedtime. Sometimes we watch movies and eat multiple bags of popcorn, sometimes it's a school night and we only catch a few episodes of something like Big City Greens, but it's always a lovely way to spend time with him. He's gonna be 10 this summer, so I'm sure our days are numbered for spending time this way, but for now, a good cuddle with Boyo is a great way to end a day!

I am a temporary cat-mom for my sister's cat. I love cats, but his insistence on being in my lap or sitting on whatever I am trying to do annoys the daylights out of me, BUT he is a sweet old boy with a whistling purr and just a lovey when he wants to cuddle up in my lap or sleep on me... when I'm not busy!

Your kitty looks just like the cat we had when we were growing up!

Good Tuesday Morning Friends

#1 - CUDDLING WITH MY GIRLS WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE - My girls used to love cuddling with me on the couch or Lazy Boy (the big chair is what they called it). We’d watch a lot of Disney channel shows together. When my DD27 was a little girl we’d watch a lot of Food Network, and she loved watching Emeril Lagassee and would go around telling people “pork fat rules” - she was around 4 years old :lmao:

#2 - MY IPHONE - It’s hard to narrow down what technology I’m grateful for, because I’m grateful for all of it. I’m choosing my phone since it’s with me everywhere I go. It’s weird to think that it wasn’t that long ago that we all lived just fine without our phones, and now it seems like we couldn’t live without them.

#3 - BEANS DURING LENT - I enjoy different beans throughout the year, but I especially enjoy them during Lent, which is right around the corner. I’m already starting to think about what meatless meals I’ll be making during Lent and bean burritos, bean tostadas, black beans with shrimp tacos and more.

Well it won’t be beans I do t care for them

Soft cuddly blankets love cuddling up with a blanket I have them everywhere because I’m always cold 🥶

The nightly cuddled up when my kids were little and reading a book to them right after they took their bath very fond memories of this

Cuddling with my animals when they were puppies or kittens so much fun

My iPhone I still remember my very first iPhone so excited to get it

Technology has given us so much and unfortunately, taken away good things from us as well. Reading and writing scores have gone down dramatically. Children need books, paper, and pencils to learn reading and writing. Social emotional health has been affected negatively. Technology has given children access to inappropriate things and has been used as a babysitter and to keep kids busy. I have a lot of issues with technology. But for this post, I will focus on the positive aspects, because when technology is used correctly, it can do great things.

1. Maps on my iPhone has helped me get to unfamiliar places safely.

2. Being able to text my daughter anywhere in the world and know that she’s safe and happy. While my students were in the gymnasium yesterday, I was able to text with my daughter who was having dinner in her London hotel.

3. Promethian Board at school. I am able to access National Geographic for Kids and show my students amazing Science and Social Studies content. It’s how I played the movie “The Polar Express” on Pajama Day a few weeks ago.

Beans - I am going to shout out all beans in general. I don't know if anyone else follows Liam/Plant Slant on IG but he advocates hard for people to get beans into their diet because it's an inexpensive nutrient dense food. Yesterday, I had a bowl of garbanzo beans with some red wine vinegar, salt and pepper to go with my turkey for lunch. I almost always keep a can of red or black beans handy these days to add to Tex Mex inspired dishes as a way to amp up the macronutrients. I also like white beans as a healthy filler in some more mild dishes that also boost the healthfulness.

Shortbread - I can't remember how long it's been (probably close to 2 decades), but I found Ina Garten's shortbread recipe and it's been my go-to cookie ever since. They are so easy (and I'm awful with dough), they are incredibly rich and buttery, they freeze well, and they've taken the place of sugar cookies in my cookie baking world. I was so pleased with how they held up to my molded cookie idea this year. I have a bunch of them saved in the freezer. This way, they stay good indefinitely, they're not out tempting me, they're too hard frozen to just grab and eat (unless I want to break a tooth), but they're there when I "need" them.

Cuddles - DD19 went back to OK yesterday. We had the dog stay with her the previous night since she won't see her for a while. She sleeps with me most nights. She was back in with me last night and I suspect she also knew something was up with DD17 (school starts today), so the dog was extra cuddly and snuggly overnight. It meant I got woken up a few times but I don't mind it so much when it's furry cuddles.

Evening all,

1. Shortbread - just grateful for shortbread in general as when done properly it is such a nice biscuit and with so few ingredients, surprisingly easy to make!

2. Android Auto - while I also second (third/fourth?) phones in general, I want to give specific gratitude to the ability to connect my phone to my car using Android Auto. I love being able to properly connect to and control Spotify from the car, as well as being able to use my own navigation app rather than the awful Audi default one.

3. Electric blanket- it's freezing here at the moment so especially grateful for being able to cuddle up under my electric blanket, even more so when there's a couple cats sat on top too!

I second garbanzo beans and for the same reasons.

Cuddling with my DGD when we have a sleepover

My iPadand my iPhone for so many reasons! (including being here right now) :)

(I used to buy a box of Walker Shortbread cookies every Christmas, but sadly can no longer eat them. But great memories!)

Happy HUMP Day

#1 - THE SKY IN THE WINTER - We have sooooo…….many grey days around here during the winter that when we see a blue sky I’m very grateful.

#2 - STITCH - We were Stitch fans from the day the animated movie arrived at theaters in 2002. We have several Stitch items from the days of Disney Catalog that you can only find on eBay with a high price tag. I’m grateful for all these items.

#3 - MY SNOW WHITE COFFEE MUG - My favorite princess on the outside and favorite dwarf is on the inside. I bought this at WDW a loooonnnnnggggg time ago, I’m grateful I bought it for myself.

Fuzzy blankets for sure and warm puppies.

I agree Summer2018 about technology and kids. I am grateful to be able to communicate with my Dad and all of you.

When I was younger I enjoyed shortbread cookies. Dad had a late friend who once baked us the most awesome homemade shortbread cookies.

The sky and beaches
Dad especially enjoys the Dodgers

Memories of enjoying the original Smurfs as a kid

Blueberries - I try and get in a serving of berries once a day since they are rich in things like fiber and antioxidants. Truth be told, I prefer blackberries, but I think blueberries have a slight edge in nutrients and I usually share a few with the dog. It's become one of her favorite safe little treats. She likes to pop them with her front teeth.

Blue Lights - Thinking back on this past year's holiday display and reminded of how much I really love blue lights. They create a nice icy/watery effect. I was discussing with my neighbors on how to add to next year's display while keeping it classy and cohesive. We're thinking a lot more blue lights and more winter animals in those lights. I currently have a narwhal and a shark, so maybe a penguin, polar bear, etc.

Blue Brooks - My newest pair is bright blue. I have three pairs in rotation to help prevent injuries but I'm particularly fond of this new pair since I have a lot of blue in my wardrobe. I know nobody really cares if I match or coordinate, especially on my walks in the dark but I feel so much more put together when it's a day where things go together. The price was also good... below the current sale pricing.
