I was just cleaning out 'stuff' and found my airline tickets for my first time going to WDW in 1975.

$49.00 each way Direct from JFK to MCO. We were served breakfest and saw a movie!!! Flight left and arrived ON TIME, No lost luggage,....and I remember my friends Mom had a seat in the smoking section.

I recall my first flight, ORD to LAX, in '68, on a 707. There was no non-smoking section, all smoking. . And I smoked, LOL. Yuk! Price, I recall, was $198. Amazingly, you can still fly that inexpensively, almost 40 years later. Granted, no movie, no meals, a bit more (well, a lot more) cramped, but prices really have held over the years for the most part.

When you take inflation into account, the airfares that most vacation travelers now pay are really much lower than those of 30 years ago.

There are a bunch of inflation calculators on the Web. According to this Inflation Calculator, "What cost $98 in 1975 would cost $367.07 in 2005." (The tool doesn't go to 2006.)

DURING the 80's, I use to fly back & forth from JFK to either LAX or SFO for 98.00 each way....Loved it! went at least 3 times a year.

They were the ones we flew on our yearly trips to Florida way back when.
