Relaxation, Disney Style, PTR. ~*TRIP REPORT HAS STARTED! 9/18 Pg. 155*~

THey are NEVER going to re-create it very well at Disney! Ever. I have spent some time there, and we ate pizza everyday in Florence, Naples and Verona on the street, and EVERY SINGLE ONE HAD either just cheese or cheese and ANCHOVIES. I highly doubt Americans and Canadians are going to go for the real deal on this. I've said it before, Disney has dumbed down their food to unrecognizable dishes that barely resemble the real thing. Example: Moroccan food is often so spicy you feel it for hours. It's delish beyond words, but just not sale-able to the tastes for bland food amongst its patronage. Norway: They eat cheeses that taste like peanut butter- NOT going to be ordered in the Akershus. China?: Sweet and sour Chicken has never been heard of in Canton or Urumqi. You won't find pickled duck.

It's too bad Disney can't replicate the same food standards of the countries represented in WS. I always wondered how close the food offerings are to the real thing. Obviously not very  I'll just have to travel the (real) world to get a taste for the real thing :thumbsup2

Anchovies on pizza? YUCK! But in Naples, I found the Margherita pizza to be very popular, if not a staple, at every pizzeria we ate at. In Italy, it seems like the less that's on the pizza, the better.

Since we had such lively discussions about our least favorite World Showcase pavilions yesterday, I thought today we could discuss our favorite World Showcase pavilion and why.

Marc - Tie between Morocco & Japan.

He says Morocco because it is so beautiful, he loves all the tile that is around and the open shopping bazaar atmosphere. He goes with Japan because he has a soft spot for Japanese things plus he loves the cool things in the store.

Leslie - United Kingdom.

I think it's my English roots. The UK pavilion just makes me feel right at home. I love everything about it from the fish n' chips, to the the little thatched roofs of the shops and of course it's the home of Mary Poppins.

I hope to gather all the answers to the first Contest. Once I post all the answers in one place, I'm going to reveal what ADRs we have booked and give out the points for the first half of the question.

EDIT: Okay, only 12 people guessed in the first contest!! I'm going to give you until Friday at Noon to get all of your answers in before I post them. Here is the question again....

Contest #1
This is a two part question, so put on your thinking caps!

Part A: We have made 5 ADRs for our 7 night trip. What are they?

Part B: How many ADR changes will we make when we are actually in Disney, if any?

BONUS: Name 1 ADR that we will add on the fly while at Disney.

You will get one point for each correct answer. If necessary, I will add a tie breaker question after we get back from the trip that is ADR related.

This one is a toss up. My favourite WS pavilion is either Japan or the UK. I love the store in Japan. I could spend HOURS looking at all the stuff in there. One day I'm going to try on a kimono. I also love the Japanese culture and food (although I know it's very different in real Japan). Sometime soon, maybe in the next 3 years, I will visit there. Bubba's roommate (when she was working in Disney) was from Japan and said if we ever come visit, she'd be our personal tour guide :thumbsup2 And I love the UK for the tea, Beatles and accents ;)

Fave Pav:

Easy. Morocco. They have Mo'Rockin!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Hmmmm I really love the shop in Japan (love my socks Anita :rotfl2:) the food in Germany, the beer in England, the Slushies in France, the waiters in Italy, the margaritas in the Cave...you get the idea :rotfl:

Tracy

Kind of. It's much lighter being only whipped cream, not a pudding base.

And rice pudding is often flavored with cinnamon, this is not.

:goodvibes

It sounds awesome. I gotta give it a try!

I think the best thing for our meet is to call when I arrive so we can see what is going on. How does that sound to you??

Works for me! We are purchasing my new phone today - and will have to wait 3 weeks for it to come in the mail - so right before I go I will probably have a new number, I'll PM you with it once I know.

Favorite WS pavilion: Mexico. We always have such a great time in there. I love looking at all the little details and Henry loves to try on all the hats and look at the Donald Ducks!

I'm really glad others think Italy is boring, makes me feel less mean. :rotfl:

I have not seen the film in Canada. So it's worth seeing?

I thought the film was really well done, beautiful and Martin Short is funny (and a few great jokes thrown in that only people living near the Canadian boarder would get.) And don't listen to the CM's when they tell you not to sit on the floor. I do it everytime after the movie starts and enjoy gettng off my feet.

Forget trying one on on, you should just go for it and buy one. ;):lmao: I have the cutest picture of me from when I was little in a Kimono that my grandfather brought back from Japan. How cool would it be to have a personal tour guide for a trip to Japan!?!

I really want to plan a trip to the UK. I need to do it. I'm afraid if I go I will never want to come home though.

Morocco is very cool. Again, I have to say...I love the fez hats!

:lmao: You are too funny!! I'm sure I could come up with one thing I love in each country too.
It sounds awesome. I gotta give it a try!

Sounds good to me. I gave you my cell phone # right? We might be changing numbers too but I should know way before our trip. :thumbsup2

You know, everytime I see anything Donald Duck I think of Henry now.

I will keep that in mind if we need a break from touring. I really enjoyed the movie in France, I really liked the music. I have no problem finding a spot to sit on the floor, you've got to rest those feet when you get a chance!

Favorite WS pavillion is without a doubt Mexico. I feel so fully immersed when I am in there. Morocco is a close second for the same reasons. Mexico only ends up ahead because I'd rather eat Mexican food. :rotfl:

OOOH I love your favorites!!! I have to agree Morocco and UK are two of my all time favorite pavilions to be in!! Great choices!!!!:thumbsup2

I will be able to answer your question when I get back. ;) I am loving all the updates though.

WOW LL, I was SO far behind, but happy to be all caught up again! Loving all the updates and can't wait for your trip! Love that you're meeting up with some DISers (sad one of them is not me, still...), love the costume idea, remember wide headbands were in style then, too, love all the lists.....fun!! Hoping to stay caught up these new few weeks!!! :goodvibes

My favorite is a tie b/w Morocco and Mexico. I love how in Morocco as you wind around to the back you can be totally immersed and really almost forget you're in WDW. I never get tired of taking pictures there. As for Mexico, while you can't really get lost in there (or maybe you can after a certain # of margaritas ;) ), I just love the atmosphere of the indoor plaza. It's a nice and cool break from the heat of the day and just so fun.

Really, I think they're all pretty great. WS is my favorite place in WDW. Now here's a question... if they could add a country/pavilion, what would you want them to add?? I think I've seen Australia and Russia talked about. Not sure what the other rumors are/have been.

Your trip is getting so close!! :yay:

Sounds good to me. I gave you my cell phone # right? We might be changing numbers too but I should know way before our trip. :thumbsup2

Nope, I haven't gotten your # yet. Did I send you mine?

He's still a big Dut Dut fan! It's pretty cute.

So true. :)

I love them all, too. If you really take the time to explore, they all have so much to offer. I saw that there is a new exhibit coming to Japan that will take the place of/be added to the Japanese tin toy area.

I'm all for more countries coming! :woohoo:

You got to try on a REAL kimono?! :hyper: UK would be awesome to visit and no, you definitely won't want to come home. If you need a travel companion :teeth:

Contest #1
This is a two part question, so put on your thinking caps!

Part A: We have made 5 ADRs for our 7 night trip. What are they?

Rose and Crown
Tutto
Hollywood and Vine
Crystal Palace
Cali Grille

Part B: How many ADR changes will we make when we are actually in Disney, if any?

3 changes

BONUS: Name 1 ADR that we will add on the fly while at Disney.

Kona I picked this because I want to be there!

You will get one point for each correct answer. If necessary, I will add a tie breaker question after we get back from the trip that is ADR related.

Hmmmm.... a pav that could be added?? This is such a toughy! Russia would be really beautiful, and they could do a vodka bar akin the La Cava and open a blini stand like the new crepe stand at DLR.

Australia would be fun, and really neat if they had live kangaroos to see. Not likely.

Thailand would be THE best Pav. EVER!!! BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD!! Endless possibilities for attractions and Thai kick boxing or dancing for entertainment.

I think anything from West Africa would be awesome too, but know that there is a fair amount of that in AK already. and at AKL. Still would be a nice addition.

Israel? too controversial. Turkey would be PERFECT!! A mini Hagia Sophia museum of carpets, a Raki and olive bar? And who can resist Turkish Delight??

Those are some ideas to start.

My favorite would have to be UK. Love everything about it! Plus they have the British Invasion!:rockband:

Contest Time!!

Chefs de France
R&C
Yak & Yeti
Hollywood Brown Derby
Crystal Palace

1 change

I wouldn't be surprised if you changed to Boma:laughing:

My favourite would be Japan. I just really love the landscaping there and the buildings. It looks so different and calming. Also the shop is just wonderful!

I think it would be great if they would add some countries from South America or Africa. While AK has a generic African theme, it isn't really about a distinctive country. And I love Liesa's suggestion of Thailand! :goodvibes
