Is there any way to add on refundable park tickets to a DVC reservation? Seems like DVC members are being penalized with a more restrictive cancellation policy than if park reservations were made through a package.

Some third party ticket outlets offer partial refunds under certain conditions. For instance, undercovertourist.com will charge a 5% processing fee for returned Disney tickets IF they are unused, have been purchased in the last 90 days, have not passed their first day of use and have not been altered by Disney Guest Services.

Boardwalkticketing.com does not offer refunds but will sell you insurance that covers illness, military deployment or job loss and you can obtain a refund that way.

But regardless of whether you purchased from Disney or a third party, you never lose the value of your tickets. Disney will permit you to change the dates on the tickets or apply their value to the purchase of a new pass in the event that you cannot visit during the ticket’s valid dates. Since DVC owners are very likely to visit again in the future, Disney’s policy works for most of them. It only becomes an issue if the cash is needed for another purpose and it is tied up in tickets.

We just bought in to DVC and I think this surprised me the most. We had always done Disney packages and therefore could cancel without penalty 31 days prior; the lack of a refundable ticket option is a huge disadvantage to me.

Since you are no longer booking a pacKate trip with Disney, you do have to buy tickets on your own..similar to room only cash guests.

But, as mentioned, you never lose the value of what you buy with Disney so while not refundable...you do always retain what you paid for the next time.

If you have a blue card, you do get the discount on the AP which, when sales begin again, is a nice savings.

If you go with a ticket broker, be sure you know their policies.

My main concern is guests traveling with the DVC members, staying in the DVC room. We will be going down in December to celebrate my mil 90 birthday. She is extremely healthy, but there is additional risk that comes with her age. Also, my brother in law has several underlying medical conditions. If either of them end up not being able to go, the possibilities of them reusing the tickets in a reasonable amount of time is slim. I believe that DVC members should be given the same cancelation policy as people purchasing any type of package especially in the current state where reservations are required for park entry. In the past you could hold off purchasing your tickets until your fast pass reservation time and still have equal opportunity to to make your preferred reservations. I am not asking for any added benefits for being a DVC member, but since purchasing packages aren't an option for us, an equal playing field seems fair.

Neither DVC nor Disney guests in general get ticket refund when they purchase tickets separate from room reservation. It is the Disney Parks and Resorts company that actually sells all the tickets and decides what refund rules will apply. It has obviously decided that a refund shall not apply to any tickets sold separate from a package, despite the inconvenience created by the new park reservation rule, and if one desires that to be changed, one needs to focus any suggestions on that entity rather than DVC.

The tickets are not necessarily lost even if the person designated for them cannot later use them if a reservation is cancelled. Before any use, the named guest on them can be changed to another person.

I don’t necessarily agree with you that my grievance should be with Disney parks and not with DVC. Clearly DVC is capable of creating their own policies and reservation systems. Regardless of who is “responsible“ I expect DVC to advocate for its members on our behalf to give us at least equivalent services and opportunities as compared to the general reservation population. They have a lot more buying power collectively that I do individually. Also, according to the website the tickets are nonrefundable and non-transferable after purchase.

DVC does not make the rules regarding how tickets are handled. That falls under the domain of Parks and Recreation. DVC members are subject to the same rules as any other Disney guest who purchases their tickets separately from their hotel accommodations. I'm not sure why you think that we somehow deserve special treatment. But go ahead and plead your case to Member Satisfaction.

The Disney website and app both allow reassigning unused tickets to another party in your friends and family group. You just cannot transfer a ticket to someone outside of your group. I've done it many times. It's not a problem.

Wow, I thought this was a forum for open discussion and ideas. I never asked for special treatment only equal consideration.

But it's not equal consideration if you want a different ticket cancellation policy carved out for DVC members. Anyone who does not purchase a hotel + ticket package is subject to the same rules. Just pointing that out as a part of open discussion.

Guess my point is, just because it’s not done now doesn’t mean it’s not something that should be considered. DVC Member’s are currently given special treatment in other areas why should this not be any area of consideration.

I have changed names on multi-day park tickets three times, including once within the last six months. On the Disney site, it states unused tickets can be transferred: transfer-policy

You apparently have higher expectations than many for what the modern DVC, which for the last ten years has mainly done everything it could get away with to destroy the rights and privileges of resale members and to oversell studios, can do. But you also have the problem that this is not an issue of advocating for the members to get "equivalent services and opportunities as compared to the general public." Everyone in the general public that buys tickets separate from a room reservation is subject to the same no-refund rule as DVC members. Thus, one would need to convince Disney Parks and Resorts to change the rule for everyone, not just DVC members.

People are simply sharing that it is the ticketing department that would be involved in any decision to allow DVC owners to have a special program for refundable tickets.

Even the current AP that is offered to blue card DVC owners is something DVD has gotten into a contract with them to offer to increase sales.

DVC themselves have nothing to do with any deals. They manage. So, it is always important to make sure you are directing your suggestions to the correct department and I think that is what people are trying to point out.

Right now, for example, we are being given the option to purchase a 4 plus 2 day free ticket...similar to what is being offered to package cash guests. So, it was something DVD got them to offer us via membership perks.

But, honestly, even any special refundable option, if given, would apply to DVC owners vs. their guests, especially since tickets don't lose value. And, as long as they are not used, you can assign to anyone.

How are DVC members any different that the general population when it comes to purchasing tickets?
