No kidding, with all the kids plastic water bottles coming from gymnastic birthday parties, baseball teams, etc., who needs more cheap plastic?:guilty:

exactly - considering most if not all hotels (including all disney resorts) now have signs asking that you reuse your towels to conserve water and help save the world.

so why expect people to purchase twice as many mugs in one vacation - it's asinine

Then how come others on here have posted it's ok to use the same mugs when doing a split stay, because they would be the same design. Despite what the signs might say do you think they would want to spend another $12.99 each on the same exact mugs they purchased a few days before and they would still be on that same vacation at WDW, just at a different hotel for the rest of it.
Reread what the signage says. I truly believe that split-stays are the reason that Disney reworded what the signage states. It used to say 'refills at the beverage station, at the resort where it was purchased, until the end of that stay'..or something along those lines. But, it did day 'at the resort at which it was purchased' which would mean that if you did a split stay, you would have to buy a mug at POP and then one at BWV when you got there!! And that was a huge headache.
Now, you are free to use your mugs at any resort beverage station. Technically, you can do that during the entire stay in which you purchased the mug. Obviously, some people choose to bring them back on subsequent trips. IF, and when, Disney has an issue with that practice, they will close that loophole. Obviously, it isn't a big enough issue for Disney to do anything about it. Certainly not like those who bought children's APs and then used it to get the various perks associated with APs. Disney changed the rules to 'you have to have an adult AP in order to get any discounts or other perks.'

I ONCE used the same mug for an extra night at All Star Sports. We stayed most of our nights at Contemporary, then our last evening we went to All Star. Well I didn't want to buy another mug for one night. I felt guilty about it and did feel it was wrong, so I won't do it again.

However, I don't care if others do it. I see people doing things that I wouldn't do many days, but as long as they are not illegal, I mind my own business. And although there is a rule not to use them on another trip, I don't really consider it illegal.

Have to admit to filling pop bottles up to take back to the room rather than the cup.

I knew there were more people out there who did what I do! I am sure we are not alone.
If you have a refillable mug, then fine. But if you are just taking the soda from those beverage stations, then you are stealing..plain and simple. I can't understand how anyone justifies bringing their 'other than refillable cup' to the beverage stations and fills them and thinks it's okay!! As I've said before...if you have a refillable mug and are using it, trip after trip, at least Disney was paid something for it. But those of you who bring your soda bottles, thermos's, McD's cups and fill them are just not playing by the rules.
And just because others do it does not make it acceptable.

I have ticked to say I would do it (I haven't before as I have never bought one before), but next trip we are doing a split stay between Beach Club, BLT & AKV, and I don't see why I need to buy one for each section of my trip, when someone staying at a single resort over the same period of time can use theirs.:thumbsup2

But I wouldn't carry them with me to use year after year!!;)

I'm one of the ones who take my old cups along with me. I have 2002 & 2003 mugs (WL & POR). On both occasions they were sold to me by a CM telling me to bring them back on all future trips to the designated resort. There is no writing on the mugs at all.

Honestly I don't care about the $12 and would gladly purchase a new mug. But, at this point, why would I do that when the stipulations of the original mugs at the point of sale stated I did not have to buy new mugs at those resorts?

Now the people just aimlessly filling their 7-11 cups? That's the topic for debate.

I don't know why people get so worked up about what other people do. All you can do is worry about yourself.

Thanks for posting everyone, what a great discussion!! I am glad we have seen posts for both sides of this discussion. I have to admit I thought I would see a good response to this poll when I posted..Ihave to say I saw the mug thing scattered all over the boards but I am glad that there is one area to comment and discuss this topic......

I don't see anyone getting particularly worked up here. A question was asked, and several different views were stated.
Why not just 'worry about yourself'?? Because if someone isn't aware of the existing 'policy' they may find themselves in an uncomfortable position. Or, they can see what other people do, and how their actions are received. They can weigh all that info and then make their own choices. Does everyone have to agree? Obviously not. Everyone is free to make their own choices. We just want to be sure that all viewpoints are represented..hopefully in the politest way possible.
Would I ever say anything to someone using a mug that was obviously not 'appropriate' at the beverage stations? No, absolutely not. But, if it was something really flagrant (like a big ole thermos or a 2 ltr bottle) I might say something in their general direction. But using a different WDW refillable mug? Nope, couldn't care less.

When you stay in a DVC resort, you have either a kitchenette (studio) or full kitchen (one bedroom or larger). So it doesn't make a lot of sense to even purchase the refillable mug when you can fill your refrigerator with all your favorite beverages. The last time we bought refillable mugs, we were staying at the CR and this was before they added the small cube refrigerators.

In my BCV refrigerator right now, I have root beer, water bottles, diet DP, DP, Sprite and a few other things.

No - really I totally agree. All I was saying for those that get so "worried" about what other people do - is really who cares. I totally agree about the flagrant misuse too - I've seen some doozy's over the years and just rolled my eyes, lol. And I totally agree people need to be aware.

I also agree everyone has been totally polite here which is nice.

This works only if you have a car.

We aren't staying at DVC, but we have a car and even though we bring soda for the room the kids and I still like to get the mugs to use while we are at the resort. We make good use of them when we are here for over 2 weeks. DH doesn't like to be bothered with the mugs.

Not true. We order from an online grocer so we have stuff in the room. We never have a car. Beacuse of this I hadn't bought a new mug until I saw the celebrate mugs, and I had to get one b/c they're so cute!

And I'm still waiting for pics. Wasn't that part of the thread title? I can post some of my old resort ones for fun if needed! :)

We have used mugs from a past trip however they we were at the same resort. One time we did do a split stay and used the mug from the first resort. No one said a word.

Wow just wow. As I said I fill the bottle rather than the mug. The mugs are hopeless at keeping the fizz in and very small, we used to love the smaller fatter mugs. The last couple of years they have only had the taller ones which as I pointed out earlier I buy as its next to no money. However buying and using are different things. I would rather fill a practical item than the cup. People who reuse cups are stealing, people who don't buy cups are stealing neither is any better. Are you saying someone should get frree food from McD *** they once bought a meal there, no thought no stealing is stealing no matter how you cover it.

Do you guys sleep with your mugs! I would not waste my vacation time, running back and forth to "MUG stations" just to save a few dollars on refillable mugs.

People who violate the "length of stay"-rule, on purpose, is just plain cheap!

Flame on!

Thank you, thank you just thought I was the only one who thinks its a pain in the a........ to run for a drink to the mug station.
By the time you get back in your room you are thirsty again :lmao:

You mean to say "you can get away with using them at any resort counter service location." Signs are still posted saying to use them only at the resort you bought them at for the length of that trip.

And I would love to see what happened if they added the words : and mugs brought from home to be re-used could spread the swine flu. :lmao:
