I knew there were more people out there who did what I do! I am sure we are not alone.

Well of course rules don't apply for every one.
Rules are only there for others to be followed and not by you.
Just like you wrote that you invite of site people to pool hop with you.

You know...it was sarcasm and downright rudeness that got the last refill. mug thread locked down.
There really isn't any purpose served by being nasty. Not everyone is going to agree on this one...but you don't have to insult those that don't agree with you.

I don't give a hoot what other people do. If they want to reuse their mugs, go right ahead. I doesn't bother me one bit. We don't purchase the mugs so I guess I don't reuse them.

When you stay in a DVC resort, you have either a kitchenette (studio) or full kitchen (one bedroom or larger). So it doesn't make a lot of sense to even purchase the refillable mug when you can fill your refrigerator with all your favorite beverages. The last time we bought refillable mugs, we were staying at the CR and this was before they added the small cube refrigerators.

In my BCV refrigerator right now, I have root beer, water bottles, diet DP, DP, Sprite and a few other things.

We are only now in the process of joining the DVC, and I had already booked hotel rooms at BC & the poly, where I had planned to get the mugs - but as you rightly say, I guess I won't need them now that I will have a refrigerator in the room - thanks for pointing that out!:thumbsup2

I don't reuse the mugs because I only go so many couple of years. And i like to get new ones. I miss the old style of mugs different ones for different resorts. But i am liking the new ones. Now which color will i get hummmmm.

I find it interesting that pool hopping has people up in arm but stealing drinks is fine. :confused3
Nope, using a pool at a resort other than yours is wrong. Refilling a non-Disney container is wrong.
Do people get away with these things? Sure they do..all the time. It's those people who travel over to my resort, plop themselves down taking up 8 chaises and several tables poolside, then head off with their 7-11 mugs to the beverage stations that bug me!! Of course, they aren't even staying onsite...they just like our pool and love the fact that they can get free drinks. Have I seen this? Yep. Saw it on more than one occasion at the Polynesian. Then once at BW. Sad to say that those folks who wanted to get their 'free' drinks at BW didn't realize that in order to do that, you have to show up at the counter, mug in hand. The CM won't fill the mug but gives you a full cup. But if they don't see that refill mug, they don't give out the soda!!! It was kind of funny to see the looks on the dad's face when he was told that he had to have a Disney mug..not just any old cup. This was at Leaping Horse Libations. I was seated off to the side so could overhear the conversation. Then, dad returned to his chaise area (had several of them as well as the table/chairs in front of me) and told his wife that getting drinks at POP was much easier. Maybe they should head over there tomorrow..not as good a pool but the drinks were free. Then, mom said that maybe they should actually stay at POP next time, and not mess around with the whole offsite thing again..way too much trouble. It was actually quite entertaining. Evidently someone else overheard them talking...a lifeguard approached them and asked to see some resort ID cards. They had none. Said 'Oh, they must be in our room.' Lifeguard told them they could head back to the room to get one then, otherwise they would have to leave the pool area. Of course they had to pack up and leave.
Poor family....no free drinks, no fun pool to use. Had to head back to wherever they came from.

What a GREAT lesson to teach their kids. At least they got caught - I wonder if they were as embarrassed as they should have been. I was taught not to take anything that wasn't mine - and it didn't matter what the value was - taking a pack of gum (or a soda) was just as wrong as stealing something more valuable.

We gave up on the Poly in favor of AKL, the pool is warmer it has hot tubs and is much more private. Plus Kidani pool area is card locked so you can't get in without a card, the drinks station is by the bar with no-one watching it so I suppose someone could take soda without a mug.

That whole problem with pool hopping could be resolved in a minute just by handing out bracelets for the resort quests.

Last time I set my mind on a Kitchen Sink. I was very determent get one this time.
We went by boat and ended up by SAB . (I think) We only saw people around the pool with brown bracelets.
As I could not find Beaches and Cream I just asked a pool guard if he could tell me how to find it.

At first he looked worried, maybe thinking I was asking for a free swim. :lmao:
After I told him that my only desire was eating The Famous Sink he walked us through the pool right to Beaches and Cream.
There was no way I would had been able to sneak myself into that pool. Hurray for the bracelets.
As we walked back again through the pool the same CM ask if I had eaten all the Sink like a good girl. :thumbsup2
As for re- using the mugs ore inviting off site guest to your pool obviously these people don’t realize that some one is paying for these things. Nothing in life is free and maybe the cost of “free soda ore pool towels are very low but in the end Disney makes us all pay for this.

And I wonder what these people who think that all of this is normal behavior would react if you asked them to pay for perfect strangers they never did see but who thought that they could use these amenities because other were paying Disney more than enough.

No I don't. Although we travel to WDW often, we've stayed onsite twice. Both times we were glad to purchase the mugs. This upcoming trip the mugs are included in my dining package. With that said although I have purchased the mugs I NEVER will take that cup in the parks. I always FULL up my cheapo squeeze sports bottle before I head to the parks. So I'm sure I'll get a few ugly looks. I could bring the mug to the food court (and just for dramatic reasons) transfer it into my sports bottle, but I'll pass. :thumbsup2

One trick we use to tell who's mug is who's is we bought the Wine glass hanger things at DHS they had them in one of the stores heading to ToT.

They are like charms on a ring that we attach to the handles and are Disney themed . I couldn't find them after the last trip (think DD used them for one of her Craft projects lol) so we will pick up another set. I think they come in 4s or maybe even 6 to a pack.

GREAT IDEA!!:thumbsup2

Your usage of it definetly makes sense. You need a convenient bottle at the parks and you want the drink you're allowed to get. That just goes to show that if someone is watching and criticizing you, they have no idea what the facts are. They think you are doing these awful things, but are actually jumping to the wrong conclusion because they don't have all the facts. How many times in life with many different things are we all guilty of doing that. Thank you for your quote - I for one could use the reminder (and I'm not pertaining to the mugs, all I care about is what I do with those).- I'm talking about other things in life I may jump to wrong conclusions about.:)

I don't reuse the mugs from year to year. I do bring my old ones with me, and use them when I make coffee in the room. I buy new mugs for refilling with soda.

When we went in Sept we saw all sorts of Disney refillable mugs being used. Honestly, I think if Disney had a major issue with people reusing their mugs from previous trips they would have the scanner like they have at the water parks or a person monitoring the mugs being filled at the stations.

I have reused my refillable mugs. We had a split stay planned last August: 5 days at SSR, off to Tampa to see family, and then 7 more days at POR (we were actually upgraded back to SSR). I bought mugs at SSR on the first part of the trip and reused it on the second part of the trip. There was no way I was going to buy any more of those ugly YOMD mugs just to satisfy someone else's moral compass.

I think it is pretty ridiculous that Disney can't rely on their guests to follow the signs they have posted stating that mugs are good for one stay only. They shouldn't have to pay someone to stand at each mug refil station at each resort for 16 hours a day. That would be a lot of extra payroll that we would all end up paying for.

I also think it is pretty sad that so many people have the attitude that if you can get away with doing something, that makes it ok to do.:sad2:What is wrong with people anymore?

the same reason costco and sams pay someone to stand at the door just to put a black mark on your receipt after you've already paid the cashier.

not like they actually count items and say oh you didn't pay for this or were charged twice for that

people are going to do what they do - who cares - really?

New design=new mug
Old design=reuse mug

Thus, this trip means three new mugs.

Seriously???? Aren't their bigger things going on in the world than worrying about if people are reusing old mugs???:confused3

Not sure why this topic gets posted every few months and it turns into the same witch hunt everytime. People who reuse mugs have no morals. Totally ridiculous!!!!
