>> Refillable Mug FAQ <<

Has the mug changed at all? I know some have handles, some do not, but there were rumors of resort specific mugs making a come back. We're staying at POP.

Back to all handles, with a change that all the handles are white and don't match the lid color.

I imagine they all have white handles now because Disney ordered a bunch without handles, and had to find a way to quickly convert them. You can see the inside of the white handle is less "perfect" than the colored ones. Mine were missing some of the lines where as the colored counterparts looked more polished. If that makes sense lol

I also did not see any green for purchase at any QS (I was at Contempo, Captain Cooks, Gasparilla, WL/Geyser Point/Mercantile, and Beach Club Marketlace). Only blue, red, purple, and pink.

I'd thought this too when I'd heard about the all white handles, that Disney had just had generic handles put on their stock of handle-less mugs. I hope they run out of these before I go in September. I hated the handle-less ones we got last year, and I just want a regular mug with a matching lid and handle. Yes, I am aware I am being picky, but hey:duck:

Not picky at all! When the lids come off, it can be a little hard to tell which cup is which! Sometimes one person in my family goes and fills the mugs for everyone while we're getting ready or someone just doesn't feel like making the trip. No handle/white handle does not help!

With our recent trips we have an entire set with handles and then without handles in the current design. Not hopeful there will be an entire new design when we go in August, so maybe we will buy a couple of these white handle versions of the same design. I still have two "port orleans" mugs from early 2000s. I have to admit the plastic in those older mugs seem more durable then the recent ones.

I was wondering if we bring a cup from our last trip (Nov. last year) can we just pay to reactivate it? I seem to remember something about that back when it started. We aren't on the meal plan.

Yes, but there is no cost saving in doing so.

Question:

We are going this summer with family June 17-24 and then staying with a school group June 24-July 2. Can we use the mugs the entire time? Our name is on the family ressie but the school group reserved the other.....

You probably will be able to use them for the second portion of your trip since they are usually active for 14 days.

I am still confused at how they determine how many days each mug gets. I bought 2 together at Contempo Cafe on 3/5. One expired 3/20, the other 4/2.

They're supposed to be 14 days but can be extended if your stay is longer than 14 days. We had a similar situation to yours at AoA in June. We had six mugs. Three of them were activated for 14 days; 2 of them for 21 days; and 1 of them was 28 days. All purchased at the same time and we were staying 7 days. No rhyme or reason to the various dates. I'm guessing it must be an easy "click" for the CM's to activate extra days -- maybe one click is the initial 14 days and if they accidentally click more than once while activating, the computer adds 7 days for each click or some other similar scenario. And it's probably easier to just leave the mug with the extended date rather than correct it. Just my guess.

If I take the mugs we got in December (my cabinet really doesn't need more mugs) can they be reactivated to use and how much is that? Would be for three days/one day of which will spend most all of at the resort (we are only going to MK for one day to see Wishes one last time).

If the chip is still good, it will cost the same as a brand new mug to get it reactivated. I think that is $17.99.

Does anyone know if I am staying at POR July 14-17, then 4 night cruise, then at AOA July 21-22, will my mug still work from my first stay on my second stay of that vacation? Thanks.

If you purchase a refillable Rapid Fill mug at a Disney resort food court or quick service dining location, you can get free refills of selected drinks for the duration of your stay.

Where can I buy this mug, and what does it cost? How many days can I use it?

You can find the mugs at the food court or quick service dining location at any Disney resort.

If you’re staying on a package that includes any Disney Dining Plan, you’ll receive one mug for each member of your party at no additional charge - the cost of the mug is included in the dining plan (if you have children under 3 on your reservation, they are not on the dining plan, so they will not get a free mug).

If you don’t have the dining plan, you’ll be charged $17.99 for each mug (price changed 4/26/16).

Take the mug to the cashier, who must activate it (the mug contains an RFID chip that is read by the beverage dispenser). If you’re on the dining plan, the cashier will ask you to scan your magic band to confirm.

The mugs are sold as ‘length of stay’, but they seem to remain active for 14 days. The display screen on the soda machine will show you the expiration date for the mug when you fill it.

What does the mug look like?

It’s a 16 oz plastic mug with a lid. You can choose from several different lid/handle colors; currently, red, blue, green or purple.

What drinks can I get with the mug?

The selection of drinks varies a bit by resort, but all resorts offer soda, water, hot chocolate, iced tea, coffee, and hot water for tea. In the soda dispenser, you’ll find Coke products: the usual suspects like Coke & Diet Coke, various other sodas and fruit-flavored non-carbonated drinks.

Milk, fruit juices, and premium coffees and other beverages are not available with the mug and can be purchased separately.

How do I get my drinks?

The soda machine is very similar to those at fast-food restaurants, except for the little display screens.

Place your mug on the tray under your beverage of choice. If your mug isn’t placed correctly, a message will display on the screen. Press the button on the dispenser; the fill will stop automatically when the mug is full.

Note: these machines read an RFID chip that’s embedded in your mug. If your mug has not been activated by a cashier, or has expired, the dispenser will not work.

For coffee, water, iced tea, etc, just use the dispensers to fill your mug.

Can I mix drinks in a single fill?

Sure. If you like half-Coke/half-Diet Coke, go ahead. The machine won’t turn off until the mug is full, so you can mix as many drinks as you like.

Is there a limit on how often I can fill the mug?

For the soda machine, there’s a timer that makes you wait a couple of minutes before you refill. The display screen will tell you how many seconds are left before you can fill up again.

The coffee, water, and iced tea dispensers don’t read the chip in your mug, so there’s no wait period - just fill up as often as you’d like.

What if I’m staying at two different resorts during my trip? Will I have to get another mug?

No, once your mug has been activated, it can be used at any Disney resort.

Can I get drink refills in the theme parks or water parks?

No, the mugs only work at resorts. You can take your mug into the parks with you, of course, and pour any drinks you purchase there into the mug. Don’t hand the mug to a CM and ask them to fill it, though - they’re not allowed to fill your mug for sanitary reasons. They’ll serve your drink in a cup.

Do I need to be staying at a Disney resort to buy a mug?

Nope. There’s no requirement that you be staying onsite.

I bought one of the ‘forever’ mugs way back when. Can I still use it with the new machines?

Sorry, in this case, forever has an expiration date. Forever mugs can no longer be used for refills, as they don’t contain the chip that’s required to activate the drink machine.

Note: This thread is for discussion of the current mug program. Debates about whether the forever mugs should still be useable will be deleted without comment. If you're upset that you can no longer use your forever mug, contact Disney.

I stayed at a Disney resort earlier this year and I still have the mug. Can I bring it with me on my next trip, pay the activation fee again and use it?

Yes, you can, as long as it’s one of the Rapid Fill mugs with the RFID chip.

I hope this information is helpful, let us know if anything needs correcting or updating.

Thanks!
