Refill Mugs - Are 2008 still good??

Yes. They have changed the mugs. If their policy is that you are only supposed to use the purchased mug for the length of your stay, then, no, I would not bring a mug back to refill. It's just wrong, and it's against their policy.

cool it's been at least a month since the last mug debatepopcorn::

My cm friends look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them about the argument. They told me there's no way they would stop people from using old mugs.

You can do whatever you want. The only ones that have a right to say something are the employees, it is their job.

Personally, I think refilling old mugs is pretty ghetto. But that's just my opinion.

My thought is that Disney doesn't pay for the products so I'm not sure how much credence I put in their refil policy, expecially when they don't enforce it themselves. The coke a cola company puts it's products in Disney for free to promote it's brand. If you spend 12.95 for a refillable mug or buy a paper cup, that's all your paying for, since Disney actually has never paid for the liquid. I figure they can sell you a cup but they actually don't have a say in how you fill it since they don't own the product. They would prefer that you buy new cups every time you visit since it's almost pure profit, but since they pay nothing for it, they never say anything about people refilling old cups because they're not losing anything THEY DON'T CARE. If a Coke representative wants to say you can't refil certain cups then they have that right.

I did not buy a refillable, I bought two cokes while there and I paid for both of the paper cups they came in. However if I did buy a refillable cup I would use that cup as long as they were current with out any guilt. I would not consider it stealing nor would I consider it breaking the rules. Now that the new cups are out, if I had a blue YOMD cup I would consider it not current, and that is where I personally draw the line in the coke product debate.:rotfl:

But as far as I'm concerned anyone with a mug from any year is not doing anything wrong. Filling up non Disney purchased containers, that would be wrong. But only because I think it's something a trashy person would do. But that's just me.
I have 2 separate reactions:

1) Disney does indeed pay for the Coca-Cola syrups. Coca-Cola is not a monolithic company. The syrup canisters and the bottled/canned products are distributed by independent local bottling companies. Orlando Coca-Cola Bottling Co. (the actual name of the company on Mercy Drive in Orlando) couldn't care less in tourists from New York to New Mexico are exposed to Coke products and buy them in their home markets after they return home. The idea that Disney gets its Coke fountain products for free is one of those urban legends.

2) Let's pretend that Disney does get its Coke fountain products for free. So what? It still belongs to them. Just because they get it for free doesn't mean anyone else is entitled to take it. Disney absolutely DOES own the product even if it's given to them for free. It's the sheer height of rationalization to believe that if someone gets something for free then it's OK to take it from them against their will.

In conclusion, I'll quote you, but to learn the way I feel, just change your words "non Disney purchased containers" to my words "previously purchased mugs."

Was there ever a time where it was acceptable to bring mugs back from a previous trip? My dad swears up and down that when we went two times within a year, he bought the first mugs and they told him to bring them back whenever he came to Disney for free refills... but he's getting up there and his memory isn't quite as clear as it used to be, so I don't know if I believe him. However, we were the family that used old mugs, back in 1999, so I apologize for our error.
This is kind of tricky to answer, because what a CM may tell you may not reflect the actual official policy, and there's some question as to if there even was an official policy when WDW first started selling refillable mugs, but in 1998 when we bought our first ever refillable mugs at WL, at least 2 CMs told us we could bring them back to use on future trips FOREVER. Once the resorts started posting the per trip policy we adjusted our expectations accordingly.

Polynesian put out its new mugs on 2/14/09, our last day there.

Our first on-site stay was in 1999. We were most definitely told by several CMs that this was a very smart purchase, because we could bring them back for future visits. So, no...I'm betting he was told what we were told~~it's not his 'old age', lol. That said, I am planning on purchasing new ones.

how many people save the paper cups to reuse them instead of buying new ones each time they want a soda??????

If some gives you something for free, it is ok for someone to take it from you??? Really what do you teach your children when you refill old mugs or non disney mugs. :sad2:

I was told the same thing back in 95. They put new mugs IN YOUR ROOM everyday. They also had no disclaimer that they could not be used again. I really have to find my mugs from back then.

We bought our first mugs in 1997 at the Polynesian. There was a sign in Capt Cook's where we got refills that the mugs were only good for the length of the trip during which they were purchased and at that resort only.

Parents go up with those generic plastic sipping kid cups and fill them. No one ever says anything.

I've refilled old mugs in the past. I don't feel guilty because

A) I drink maybe one soda every two days over my 2 week stay.
B) When I'm in the park, I pay $4 for a bottle of soda that most merchants charge $1.50 on and still make a profit.
C) I eat every meal on Disney property. I spend hundreds of dollars on breakfasts', lunches, and dinners. Literally, hundreds of dollars. I feel no shame in taking .20 cents worth the soda once every two days.

I am posting multiple thoughts:

1.) When we first visited CBR the year it opened, we bought those dark blue CBR mugs (my parents still have them) and the policy was that it could only be used at CBR, but I don't remember there being a "length of stay policy" however, I was 9.

2.) How do you all feel about my buying a new mug because I like to have a new one, but bringing old mugs from previous visits and using them as well? I am still only drinking the same amount of soda, just making sure I have a clean mug available.

3.) Did anyone think that the CM's don't enforce this "policy" because Disney doesn't care? I would bet that the policy is there because Disney doesn't want to upset any vendors. I can't imagine that the CM's would bend the rules for EVERYONE if they would be risking their jobs

I do buy mugs every year because I like them, but I have been guilty of bringing an old mug to the fountain once or twice as well as re-using my paper cup...but the way I see it, I am buying the refillable mug so it doesn't matter whether or not I use the new one, and old one, or a paper one.

seeing as there is no enforcement I guess you are free to do as you wish.

My son filled an empty water bottle with Coke and nobody said a word.

We had the mugs but he used the bottle. I told him it was wrong but he is 14 so it went in one ear and out the other.
