Reference check question

I am trying to contract a company that specializes in a private home service where the company would have access to my home. The business said they can't give me a personal reference because their client list is confidential and if I contract them I should expect the same guarantee of confidentiality.

Any suggestions how to proceed? I don't feel 100% certain utilizing this particular service without a testimonial from a previous or current client.

I would say, thanks but no thanks. I don't know what the "private home service" would be but anytime someone works in your home, they should be able to give you recommendations from current and former customers. Getting around the "privacy" issue is simple, ask good customers "is it ok if we put you on our reference list".

You aren't asking for their entire client list, and any company who has a privacy policy in place should have an option for current clients who are willing to be used as references for them.

My MIL has contracted with a company providing her with 24-hour in-home home health aides...you'd better believe we demanded (and got) references.

Do they have a list of clients willing to be contacted in these cases? If not you night suggest they start one.

But unless they are licensed & bonded - heck no. Also call your local PD, see what they say about them.

This really means nothing. Being bonded is paying a fee and in some cases having to put up some money in case there is damage done. It is really just an "insurance" policy for people working in a home. It takes a LOT to be turned down for these. It's kind of like having a good rating with the Better Business Bureau-it looks good on their ads but really doesn't mean all that much.

Are there other companies that offer the same service? I would call around first.
