Red Sox fans...why the red shirts??

DH drives me crazy asking "why do they where red shirts for some games?" So, I'm looking for the answer. Is there "rhyme and reason" to it or is it a random kind of thing? Enquiring minds....mainly DH's....want to know!!

The red shirts are worn mostly on Sundays and Holidays!! they are an alternate uniform shirt. and any time that Derek Lowe has pitched! (he requested them for the last couple of games)

they were worn last yr and after a while they dissappeared and came back again this yr!
