I just got this new fancy carpet cleaner off of Home shopping Network last week. What can I say, it was the today's special and I am a sucker for those. I got it and it works really good. It even got up the black shoe polish stains from my husband's combat boots. But, there is one thing it just won't get out; those red kool-aid stains that my kids have put on different places on the carpet!!! I was thinking about maybe pretreating it or just scrubbing the heck out of them then using the carpet cleaner, but I not sure what will work. So, I am turning to all my brilliant friends here to help me. Does anyone know how to get these stains out? My carpet is a light tan color if that helps. Thanks!

I had the exact same problem...red kool aid on a light tan carpet. It was there for a really long time right in front of my patio door where the sun beats in really hot. My father in law works for a floor covering installation place (has for almost 40 years) and told me to use hydrogen peroxide and water...equal amounts...and then rinse with the carpet cleaner..it really did fade the red quite a bit, but it is a lost cause with the sun baking.

Have you tried Oxi Clean? I swear by this stuff! You can find it at Target in the laundry section.
Good Luck!

I wonder if mixing water & peroxide is the same reaction you'd get with OxyClean? I was going to suggest that. I once heard that you can use Baby wet wipes, this might be for a fresh stain, but it did get Children's Benadryl out of my almost white carpet.

Or you can do what I did in my daughter's hawaiin punch stained bedroom.....cover with a disney princess throw rug- only thing that worked! Thankfully, we just got new carpet. It felt weird, however being able to put that throw rug anywhere I chose!

I have had good luck with oxi-clean too. Just make sure you use lots of water to flush out the stain and blot it with dry cloths.

Well, my son just spilled Red Gatoraide on our carpet. (He snuck it...Gotta love kids) But I already know from experience is that red does not come out...ever. It doesn't stain carpet, it actually dyes it. So, what you have is not a beige carpet with a stain on it, but carpet that actually has been permanently dyed. My professional carpet cleaner guy came out yesterday, and wasn't able to make a dent in it. So, I would say, save your scrubbing, etc. It's pretty hopeless. I know I spilled pink bubblebath one time, and it had the same effect...Red dye=permanent. It's one of the reasons why I hate carpet.

I was in Bed, Bath & Beyond the other day and I saw a product called "Red Wine Out". It supposedly removes red stains. I haven't tried it but it might be worth a shot. Good luck.

I also had red koolaid on a beige carpet. I had the sears guy come and he said, no way it wont come out. Well he was right, it didnt come out and they deducted some of our security deposit from the home we were renting. I am glad we own our own home now. They found anything they could to keep our deposit. The real estate agent who was listing the house had a rep for this I was told.

Just wondering, are there any hints or is there any advice given in the Queen of Clean Books. I saw that lady on t.v. I cant remember her name. She seems to clean the impossible. It could be worth a try.

We live by a product called Spot Shot. You can get it at Sams; it has a bright orage cap. It has gotten out red wine, pet food dyes and red juice dyes.

There is a product called Foley's Spot Remover - I'm not sure of the whole name but the key word is Foley's. Walmart and Home Depot have it-Lowes does not. It removes ANYTHING instantly. It has removed red spaghetti sauce stains for me and spilled coke on my very very light beige carpet. It costs a little less than $5.00. Try it.

I had the very same experience. In fact I rented a house in Orlando near Disney and in the paperwork was a provision demanding NO KOOLAID in the home!! Nothing else, just Koolaid! When I asked why they told me that that was the ONLY thing they could not clean.... :(

I actually had to take the stain out by cutting it out and replacing it with a piece from the inside of a closet.

Henry's Carpet Cleaner on QVC, that is the ticket.......

Try windex. It worked for me. I actually use it on carpet stains all the time.

Maybe I have everyone's blessing. My secret.......Men's Shaving Cream. The foam kind, not the gel, because that often has dyes in it. Just use some, rub it in, then rinse out with some water and towel. I've gotten out red pain, Hawaiian Punch, and Daquiries. Hope it works for the Kool-Aid!!!!

OXYKick is wonderful. Has taken everything spilled on our den carpet out, from green paint to coke to mud. I think it's by the makers of OxyClean.

I have to admit, in the 9 years I've spent in the carpet industry, I've never heard of using Windex or men's shaving cream to clean a stain. Sometimes it seems like the home remedies work better than whatever big companies come up with.

Marlasmom, I think what you're thinking of is called Folex. I know Home Depot carries a spot remover by that name.

One of the best things I've heard of is a spot remover made by Chem Dry. Home Depot had it for a while years ago and more than one person said it worked great. Chem Dry comes in to clean DW Lauri's store and they leave a can of the spot remover with her, and she's also said it works great.
