Red cards on lanyards that CMs pass out?

I really hope this isn't a stupid question but I was at the MK two days ago and I kept seeing cast members giving people these red cards hung on lanyards that go around your neck. One side was in English and one side was in Spanish but I never could see what they said. I saw one given out in a food line and one given out in a ride line. My curiosity is up and I just really want to know what these red cards are for and why I never got one! :confused3

They give them to you when you enter a ride line. They mark the time and when you get to the end of the line and ready to board, you give it to the boarding CM, who also notes the time. This tells them how long the ride wait is and is how they keep the time posted on the board and the ride entrance.

I think its a time card and they tell you to give it to the CM at the end of the line. That way they know how long the wait is.

Not sure why they would do it at a food line though?

I think they are given out to see how the long the wait time is. The last person with the card is gives it to the CM at the end of the line of the attraction/ restaurant. They are "timed" cards. We had to do it one time on TOT standby. If that's the same cards you are talking about:confused3

These are randowmly given to guests in line to determine the posted wait time for that certain attraction etc. You will be walking into a line for say Splash Mountain, a CM will ask you to give it to the CM at the end of the line. That's about it, nothing special.

So don't feel bad that you didn't get one. ;)

Exactly all it is. We were given them and really thought it was for something maybe special. No such luck. Just a timekeeper for WDW! Our way of helping them out so they don't have to put someone in line!

Yup, they use them to gauge wait times. Not getting one just means less work and less contact with other people's germs. :)

Yes, I guess a lot of germs there. It's like a menu, shopping cart or magazine in a doctor's office!

I know....those cards are pretty nasty
What makes these cards "Nasty"? I love getting picked to do this. I make my DW take my picture everytime. I think it is my way of helping Disney since they are helping me forget about the outside world. If they are nasty because of germs from others that carried them then what do you think about the ride that the same person that was carrying the card got on. Do you follow them and ask for a different car / seat?
Or are you saying it becasue you are trying to cover your sadness for not being picked?

I am the furthest from a germaphobe as you can get, but the SEVERAL times I have been picked the cards they give me are sweaty, bent and well just NASTY.l Thats what make the cards nasty.

"Cover my sadness for not getting picked"....:confused3 If you knew me, you would know that I wouldn't comment on something I wouldn't have back-up for.

I'm sensing too much anger in your post WOW :scared1:

I have been given this card 2 or 3 times to give to the Cast Members at the front of the line, although as BigGreen73 said they are nothing that special and no one should feel bad if they are not selected to give it to the next Cast Member.

No anger here!! I leave for DL in 2 days there is close to nothing that will make me angree right now. After you explained the condition in which you received these cards, I would agree that they are "nasty". Yours was just quoted because I though it carried the other quote with it which talked about "germs". Sorry if I upset you! I am not seeing anger in my post it was kind of happy because I got to remember getting these cards. Any post can sound anyway based on what your mind wants you to feel. I am guessing that you thought I was bashing you so your mind made it seem I was being mean so that in turn makes me angree.

Nobody is "picked." The card is just handed to whomever it is in line when the time comes to hand the card out.

I've carried them many times. Never felt special or excited. Certainly didn't consider it picture-worthy. If you get excited about it, I'm happy for you. But if you think that everyone considers carrying a little red card on a string through a line to be a big deal you are mistaken.

Some folks, like me, figure not carrying it just means you don't have to carry it.

Hey, not sure if anyone has answered this yet. (:dancer:) But I think that's the card they give so that when you hand it to another cast member, they can update the wait time.

Or people like me who prefer not to carry it because I almost always forget to give it to the CM at the other end. :rotfl:

You do not have to carry it you can wear it. "picked" is just a word used to described being at the right place at the right time. Just liked getting "dreamed" my dream is not to get a fast pass but I was at the right place at the right time. Thank you for showing some care for my excitment. Getting my picture gives us something to do while we are in line. My DW loves to take hundreds of pictures so it also gives her the oportunity to take another. I am so so so so SORRY if I upset anyone!!!!!:(

Ha ha, I got this card on my first ride on the first day of my recent trip - for a second, I thought I was getting something special, but then I remembered hearing about them on the Dis. :)

I must have been the chosen one during our last trip because I must have been given one of those cards at least 6 times.

I must have been special.:cutie: Too bad I hadn't caught the eye of the Dream Team instead!! :lmao:

Yea, nothing special about the cards. Just used to measure the waiting time for rides. Also why times might not be updated right away when a big rush of people come to a ride, have to wait for the card to may its way through the line.
