I talked to our guide today and mentioned a suggestion that would help us get the few points we need to complete reservations with the new allocation charts for 2010. She liked the idea and was going to email it in to the members email address. She mentioned that a LOT of emails from all of us speaks LOUDLY to Disney, so I ask for help in sending this idea in via email if you like the suggestion stated below....

We have a suggestion that might help those of us who are just a few points short of what we need to complete a reservation. Rather than just the 1 (any size) transfer in/out per use year, might Disney consider adding an ADDITIONAL 5 transfers in/out of ONLY 10 POINTS MAXIMUM for each transfer. These 5 additional transfers would not help the commercial renters because the total would only be 50 points, but it would make life so much easier for the average owner. It is hard to get a transfer from another owner for a small number of points when they can only do ONE transfer per year. This loosening of the transfer policy would help sooth the wound created by this reallocation.

Anyway, that's our idea for a possible bandaid to the current dilema! :goodvibes Help us out with an email to DVC if you agree.

Here's the email address: members@disneyvacationclub.com

Thanks!

10 points doesn't even cut it for me. When a Sun-thur reservation in January BW standard 2 bedroom went from 120 to 140 points - that's a big difference!

BUT, you can do two of the 10 point transfers (out of the 5 total small transfers) and get your 20 points. See how it would work? By keeping it to small transfers, you can get up to 50 points, but still not encourage the commercial renters to abuse it.

I think it is a great idea. I am in the camp that has benefitted and could have extra points. I would be more likely to transfer less than ten points than a large amount. I know someone here was short a few last week and I thought about giving her a few. I'm thinking transfer is a giveaway rather than a sale, right?
If you post an email address, it would be a great help to many.

I just figured out how to post the email address, so I put it in my original post at top. There's also a member satisfaction email address but as I understand all the emails will result in the same place.

Just a reminder, it is fine to encourage folks to write to DVC regarding their feelings on a particular aspect of the program, as the OP has done here.

However, it is not allowed for anyone to post petitions or links to petitions, nor is it allowed to post "sample" emails that may be cut and pasted, as part of an organized campaign.

Thanks...just an early reminder in case someone is thinking of posting that type of thing.

I guess I don't see the point of limiting it to 10 points or less. It takes the same amount of effort to do a transfer no matter how many points. While I'd like to have more than one transfer per year, 5 seems to be overkill.

I allready included this in my email

I agree with increasing the number of member to member transfers, but also limit each member to ONE reservation per year that is for another name other than the person on the contract(renters). They should also shorten the booking window for reservations for renters to one month. This would help members who have extra points they can't use.

I agree in principle, but how would they ever enforce it? How would DVC know if you are booking a rental or simply giving points to relatives/friends, without limiting those trips as well? If friends or family members get married, I often give them a DVC reservation for their honeymoon. I have never "rented" my points for compensation.

I also often reserve multiple rooms, for myself and people I have invited to vacation with me. We don't always want to share a 2 bedroom unit. How would DVC really differentiate between that and a rental? Sure, we are supposed to inform Member Service when making reservations for a rental, but in practice, what percentage of DVC Members do you think comply?

I don't like that idea, we have four adult children and I want to be able to give them a trip to Disney as often as I want to.

Gotta disagree with this one - we like to take friends and family and not be in the same room!

I strongly disagree with this idea. We own quite a few points. We enjoy vacationing with friends and relatives, and own enough points to allow us to vacation with our friends and relatives multiple times a year. One reservation/year for others simply wouldn't cut it for us.

I always vacation with family also, two rooms. That would disallow any renting at all. That also was something that convinced me to buy. This is becoming more and more complicated. I think they made a big mistake here.

Okay, back on topic here....as the original post states, we are talking about emailing DVC in regards to asking Disney to consider adding an ADDITIONAL 5 transfers in/out of ONLY 10 POINTS MAXIMUM for each transfer. We would not lose our ONE large transfer in/out, but would ADD additional little transfers to help soften the problems we are having with being short on reservations with the new allocations. If you agree, please take time to email DVC (the link is in the opening post). The more we let DVC know our ideas, the better chance we have with them listening to a good idea and implementing a POSITIVE change. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I don't like the idea at all. A policy of this sort could explode back into the commercial renter problems that SEEM to have been reduced somewhat by the new policy (or are at least not as visible).

I don't understand why you would need more than one transfer a year?? Even if you actually make 5 different trips to WDW then you would only need to transfer points in for the last trip cuz your regular points would cover all the trips prior. You would need to transfer 25 at the end but it would be better than 5 small transfers. It doesn't make sense to me!

You would need more than one transfer in/out per year especially for the person who had the extra points to help the average owner out. If owner A needs 2 points and owner B needs 1 point and owner C needs 5 points, and you only had ONE transfer, why would you choose to use your ONLY ONE transfer a year to help someone out? You may need that one transfer option for yourself later in the use year. If you had 25 extra points to share and the extra small transfer options, you could help a few owners and the owners themselves would have the extra transfers to receive them. Also, people have different resorts, so I would want to transfer in 2 points for a Boardwalk reservation and maybe 1 point for a Beach Club reservation, etc. Without the extra small transfers, then I don't have multiple resort/reservation options for the two or three reservations we make for our family each use year.

I agree that we don't want to have commercial renter problems again, but 5 SMALL transfers of 10 points or less adds up to only 50 points, something that I wouldn't think would help a commercial renter....aren't they after LARGE quantities of points. Before the 1 transfer rule went into effect, I remember posters on the rent/trade boards asking for any and every point they could get. Many of those points apparently were morphed into Beach Club points and created a problem (due to the fact that Disney's database cannot seem to track points well), so that's why I opted for SMALL transfers and a cap of how many. Don't the points have to match the resort contract of the recipient? If I wanted extra points and have a Beach Club contract, wouldn't I need to get BC points? Seems like that should be the case. Then you wouldn't be able to "morph" points.
