Reality Check--Yes, VMK has bugs, but look how far it's come!

It's true... you could set your watch by the DC Monster... Every 30 minutes and POW you were dc. If you were sitting in a room chatting with friends, it was funny to be the last person to be dc... you'd see one friend, then another disappear, then another and you'd get up and try to walk away "running from the monster" only to be dc yourself. lol Ah... Good times... Good times...

I also remember when the disconnect problems were a lot worse. Like clockwork, every 30 minutes, I'd lose connection, and have to log back on.

Yes, that DC monster was a vicious beast. You would be in line in a host game/trade room and watch as the poor little avatars would pop out of site.

Or praying you don't disconnect waiting for the host to get back from their disconnect. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Actually... last week or maybe two weeks ago, there was a group of us in Samariah's quest room and we were sitting in a line, DazzleMagic got dc, then I got dc, and we started joking that the Dc Monster was going down the line, but aparently the Dc Monster liked me so much that I was the only one that kept getting dc after the first time!:lmao:

LOL! Now people might understand my comments in another thread when I found out this was a maze event.
 :faint:

I remember the days of beta when I had dial-up, it would take me an hour to
log into VMK. Good times. ;)

The dc monster was probably the worst annoyance, and I'm glad for the most
part, it's fixed. Now I usually crash in Mansion games, but I expect that.

oooooh who remembers when there could inly be 50 people in line so just getting on the line made my body quiver with delight and the being dc at number 1 in line or in the room and that oh so great urge to kick in your comp screen. But yes we have come a great way and I for one am not complaning oh yes vmk does have somethings that ppl don't like that were better in the old time but hey " You Win Alot You Lose Very Little To Make Way For The New " can you spot my twist in that saying lol great thread. :cool1: :goodvibes ;) :) :woohoo:   :grouphug:

heh. I actually preferred that method. I liked the 50 limit.

Yup :) "Sorry this event is full right now. Try again later." :headache:. But hey, you got it more times then with the endless line.

I have always laughed when I read the threads (not just here) about how it was so good in the beta days ROFL.

It's obvious those players weren't there in BETA.

I dont think I saw a host for the first 6 months I played the game (totally their loss btw :rotfl: )

I enjoyed Beta a lot. The POTC game was better, you could have as many green tea cups as you wanted, and there were only two desirable objects- Inferno and Teleportation. Oh, and I had friends then

What I'm trying to get at is, we made a lot of memories in our first Beta days. (I remember the first thing I ever said to Jellyrolls:

"Oh, you're the lady with the weird guy in your signature!")

Yeah, I wish they would bring it back. First they have to bring back non-teleporter host games though.

Edit: Cool, 1,800 posts.

Being the VMK newbie that I am, this thread has been really fun to read! With all that going on, I'm amazed that you guys stuck it out for so long.

I feel spoiled. I also, for some strange reason, feel compelled to call my grandma and hear some of her stories about the Depression and Post-Depression Era. ;)

Anyone have any screen shots from back in the day? It would be fun to see them!

An old birthday party... Before I knew how to use paint. This was just after beta.

VMK has indeed come a far way since then. Do you remember the calendar the way it used to be? No? Thats because we didnt have one!)

This made me laugh. It's the vmk version of back in my day we had to walk 10 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways...:rotfl2:

Back in my day we didn't have vmk pass. I wasn't here day 1 but I did join early enough to remember some of what you are talking about.

Anybody remember those coffin teleporters that would make us crash? VMK also crashed fairly often. Ah the joys of watching the queue count never drop...it was the only way you knew you'd crashed...

I remember that! I would think if I just sat there a few more minutes the count would drop. Hated to admit I had crashed. I think I can (stay connected) I think I can...:rotfl:

Thanks VMK for continuing to improve.:yay: I am happy I can see my inventory with a count of how many I have. And Aengus I got my stuff out of my store rooms too. I don't trade enough to know if the lag is worse again, but I do know I like not having to look room to room to see what I have.

Good work and keep the improvements coming. I'm looking forward to the prizes from the new card game.

The hosts work so hard and have no control over most of the things people gripe at them about. They work hard for their money. Go hosts!:cheer2:

Hmm, I remember when I first started I never even knew about Host events, LOL. It was 4 months before I even thought that there could be a fansite. :sad2: So I struggled through life without knowing anything, LOL. But I remember the DC monster and the waiting and watching the little green bar creep along. And when they changed to the 50-person queue and it was SO hard to get into a queue. :headache: Oh, and I remember when you played Pirates to get the Invisibility magic, and you could play with all computer players much more easily than you could with real players. And the good old Fireworks game and sandbagging... man, it may not have been fair but it sure was fun.

I remember when Narnia teleporters were rare. When the Ghosts in the mansion actually appeared! And when I thought the Jungle Cruise was fun.

Ah, good times.
