Ready to sell DVC, not happy with it

It's a joke, people - relax ;)

How tall is that stump of a castle, anyway? 40 feet?

But seriously - there's no EPCOT in California.

These things always go in cycles. 5-6 years ago, the Left Coast fans were literally apoplectic over the condition of the Anaheim resort. It wasn't until Cast Member Matt came along to clean things up that The Original regained its luster.

My comment was addressing housekeeping and maintenance issues and yes I am aware of some concerns with other Disney resorts but I still think they do a better job of keeping their resorts up to par and cleaner than DVC does lately. BWV is the best example, the Inn side of the resort would have never been alllowed to get to the state of disrepair the Villas side was in before they began to renovate.

As Dean addressed; some issues could be such that a person truly is unhappy with DVC and would want to sell.

However i would hate to see someone give in and sell over housekeeping and upkeep. I feel if enough members complain about that particular situation it will be addressed.

DH and I totally agree with you about BWV and BWI. On our December trip we spent a week at BWV and one extra day at BWI.

The Villa layout was, of course, perfect for 2 people but oh my gosh the room was in very sad shape. Two of the stove burners did not work, the shower dribbled no matter what we did - as did the sink in the master bathroom. Everything in the unit was worn and sad. We couldn't even get replacement lightbulbs. After two days of telephone requests, we simply bought our own replacement bulbs. You could see how nice it was at one time - just way overdue for some serious TLC....and what is with those old televisions? This unit for a cash sale is - what - $600 p/night. Disney should be ashamed! I'm very happy we were given the points as our Christmas gift. If we had paid $$$, I would not have been happy.

We then found our most favorite room in all of WDW....at BWI. It was simply....stunning. Fresh bedding....COMFORTABLE bed, a small mountain of pillows that you just sunk into, big flat screen television, mountains of fluffy towels, lightbulbs in all the lights worked (a concept BWV never quite understood). It was fresh....no mold iin the corners of the bathroom.

Disneyland > Magic Kingdom

Disneyland Resort < Walt Disney World

Just MHO!

Never been to DLR, hope to at some point in the future, but a few weeks ago a co-worker mentioned that the last time they were at WDW the bus driver mentioned that DLR would fit in the parking lot at Magic Kingdom :rotfl2:

I realize it's a huge parking lot, and that at the same time MK itself would probably fit in it's own parking lot, but thought that comment was kinda funny.

Not knocking DLR, just found that comment to be kind of funny.

I do think that the problems with housekeeping also gets magnified when you own DVC. DVC, of course, is a timeshare that makes you something of a captive customer (possible more so than many other timeshares for which there are cost-effective exchanges).

If you are a cash customer, you get to vote with your dollars each vacation and choose not to give your business to an establishment that doesn't meet your standards (whether it is a particular resort or all of WDW). If your room is a problem that management cannot fix, as a cash customer you are in a better position to demand your $$ back and use those $$ to move to another room.

This is one of the "costs" to owning a timeshare that cannot be quantified in exact dollars but should be considered when thinking about buying (and continuing to own) DVC. As I posted before, we continue to get enough value out of owning DVC that this cost is acceptable to us. -- Suzanne

Not sure..but what is stunning to me is that the drop at Splash Mountain is the same as Pirates (in the boutique park), just a different grade. BTW Pirates is MUCH better in the boutique park than the sprawling blight park...

We have been to WDW numerous times and are going to DL for the first time in August. People keep telling us we won't like it because it's so much smaller then WDW. Well shut up already!:scared1: We are going out to DL with only 1 expectation. That is to enjoy ourselves. :cool1: We are not going to compare apples to oranges, or WDW to DL. Now back to the subject. We have only ever had minor complaints with our various rooms we have stayed in. They all were corrected in a timely manner. I approached the proper people quietly and friendly. If the problems had not been corrected i would have stepped up my tone of voice and lost my friendliness and climbed the ladder of authority. I usually can guage how a person needs to be treated to get done what is right. If you have a snotty attitude you are getting a snottier (is that a word) attitude back. I may even belittle you.:confused3 I do not have unreasonable expectations. Just want what i paid for. No more no less.

One of the travel channel shows has a Tony Baxter quote that goes along the lines of: "Disneyland is charming. The Magic Kingdom is stunning."

To me, that about sums it up perfectly. They're both cool, but they are both different, and both worth a visit.

I'm hesitant to go back to WDL as I was there in 89-90 and it was nice and all but didn't have me saying I HAVE TO GET BACK THERE. When I went to WDW I was jaw dropping floored and I still have that feeling today for WDW. I can't wait to go to WDW again the second I leave. Now with that said after DVCMIKE's TR I'm seriously thinking about giving WDL a try again. Problem I have is I want to always go back WDW. We are going to Hawaii for my 40th and as pumped as I am to go (never been) deep down I really want to go to WDW yet again.....BTW I will have been to WDW about 6 weeks prior to our Hawaii trip.

Don't listen to the "DL poopers". My husband never wanted to visit DL because he thought it was too small. What he discovered when I finally convinced him to try it was.....a charming little petite version of WDW.

They have managed to artfully add so many attractions into a small footprint. It is very easy to get around, the last two years we have found it better maintained than WDW and it's the original.

Do the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour. This is where the magic we love began. There are so many stories of Walt's input - some are funny. For example....

Before DL opened they were painting the castle. Roy ($$$ brother) had decided to paint everything which was going to be gold.......with gold paint. Walt (magic-brother) said NO WAY. The only thing that will sparkle on a cloudy day will be Gold Leaf - Gold Leaf it must be!!! Roy said - hey, you know how much Gold Leaf costs? We cannot afford it. What happened......

Walt waited until Roy had to travel out of town for a few days.....and had the Gold Leaf applied to the castle.

DL is filled with this magic!

Now add on the news about the GCV!! Disney's Grand Californian has always been our favorite Disney resort - now there are villa's attached.

We will be there in a 2 BR in December. Cannot wait.

Don't discount it just because it's small. In some ways it has more character and charm than Florida....and if you forget about the time....you can sprint from your hotel room at the Grand Cali to Main Street in time for the fireworks!!!

I hope to get out to your cute boutique park in the next couple of years, but it ain't WDW :rotfl:

(plus flights are much more expensive from the east coast)

Please...feel free to stay in Florida. We're laid back types in California, but know an insult when we see one. I was merely trying to suggest a Disney destination where it's clean and has wonderful service. If it's not for you, then that's okay.

Nevermind that DLR has nearly as many attractions in 2 parks as in the 4 at WDW, and that most duplicate rides are considered better in DLR. ;) Check out Hydroguy's sticky on the DL boards, DLR for WDW vets. Anyone contemplating a trip to Walt's park will feel much better after they read it.
