What has everyone observed about what happens to the crowd after 7:01? Does it seem like most people stay at DHS, and where are most headed? Do you see a large crowd leaving shortly after?
We left DHS after we got boarding group 49 and got breakfast at Yacht Club. We knew we wouldn't get called until after noon. There was a steady stream of people leaving the park but I would not call it a crowd. :)
I am not at WDW :sad1: but I have friends who are. I had explained the whole process to them but honestly I was worried they would not fully understand the importance of timing it right. So I logged into their account from home this morning too, launched the app at 6:59:50, hit show more and the join boarding group was red. Got them group 6! I will live vicariously through them until I can make it down myself.
They most likely have no idea what a great number that was. :) We have family at DHS today and I attempted to get them a boarding group from home, but the backup groups closed before they got to the park.

So, even though DH has his own MDE, best that he is using my login when trying? That's not causing any issues for anyone, being logged into same MDE account to try to get a boarding group?
DH and I both have our own MDE accounts. He used his account and I used mine. He got a boarding group before I did, most likely because he has a newer, faster phone. :)

I’m worried what these 8am openings are going to look like with how crazy it’s been lately. You don’t have to be as dedicated to make it to the park by 8. There are a couple 7am openings at the beginning of my trip but I had planned all my HS days for the second half of the trip when I’m staying at boardwalk. I could go the 2nd and pray for an early BG, but I have 11:40 Cali Grill reservations so anything higher than like 30 and I’d be out of luck. Not sure if it’s worth trying that day with tight time constraints or if I should just wait as planned and hope the 8am openings won’t be as crazy as I think they will be.

I think it might be all of that - they want to reduce the number of "guaranteed" BGs (even though nothing is 100% guaranteed) but they want to minimize the number of people that are there prior to opening but wouldn't get one - so I definitely could see them saying "ok, those that "join" in the first minute are the ones prepared/ready to go so make that the guaranteed BGs and then move on"

I think long term they would prefer that there are no guaranteed BGs and there are just "BGs" that don't come with the expectation of compensation if not called - just not sure if they can get there in the near term

I agree with you and especially on that last point. I know lots of people think that the value of the compensation is nothing in the grand scheme of things for Disney (and that is probably true), but I think it’s a precedent they probably don’t want to be setting, especially with all the new attractions on the horizon.

That’s my guess, at least.

I'll be very interested in what Tues-Thurs look like

We each have the same versions, iPhone 7 and with AT&T service.

From these posts, seems like people posting here mostly switch off WiFi when attempting to get a boarding group? Anything can happen with how things operate between now and my April trip with this ride, so just continuing to read along. And currently showing 9 am opening then, expecting that will change. Then again, I see 9 am openings for HS in Feb?

Well, @TheMaxRebo, I hate to write (or think!) this, but it's possible they could make every BG a not-guaranteed BG tomorrow. I mean, anything is possible. Ten days ago, who could've predicted that they'd start limiting the initial BGs to the first minute (or 50 seconds, which I think it might've been today)? Also, none of us, I don't think, have any real data on how many people are in a typical BG. It's possible they've lowered that number as well or even that the number of people in any given BG has always been a flexible number.

All I know for sure is that I'm totally addicted to this thread even though I rode twice in December before the changeover to park-opening-BG madness, and I'm not going again until May, but I cannot stop reading this thread. I feel like I know all the regular posters! And love you! That means you, too, @TheMaxRebo! 💜

Well, sure they could change it tomorrow - but I feel like Disney tries to make all parties happy and give the impression they are still providing things/not fully stop things people have come to expect. Like with Free Dining that they keep but it becomes more and more restrictive each year

Where? I was just looking at the website and see 8 AM from Feb 4-29.

Used our FP for Rise this morning that we got yesterday from the breakdown.
Took 7 minutes from scanning in to get to the start of the ride. Everything was working.

I had asked last night when we got the FP if we could get a BG as well for today. So we could have ride twice today. We elected to sleep in.

Got in the queue at 11:10. Announcement at 11:27 that ride is down. Missing our SDD FP. Snack time...

Looks like today is a bit of a tough day for the ride. A little bit frustrating, but I managed to find FP for 2 for SDD, which perked us up a little. Trying to patiently wait for the ride to resume BGs and work its way to our number.

Just tried checking in and told it's down right now and come back later. Keep watching app to see if boarding group starts moving again and comeback

RotR is having a rough couple of days.. BG 43 this morning (AT&T IPhone XR, turned off wifi). Headed out from DHS for a run until my BG got closer. 5 miles, 9 miles, 11 miles . 😳. Had to stop before a stretcher was required.( :offtopic:)

Sorry, back to the matter at hand, as a data point, yesterday my BG 44 was called at 10:38 AM. Today we are stuck at BG 35 at noon. Maybe some recovery fast passes slowing down from yesterday along with the breakdowns.
