Not that you have a lot of control over this...but it sounds like you really want to avoid having BGs that get called 3 hours or less from closing. This pattern of "suddenly calling a lot of BGs" in the last hour (i.e. between 3 & 2 hours before the park closes) probably makes wait times way longer. And people have also mentioned that this messes with the flow of the pre-shows too for some reason...

Again, I'll be happy to simply have a BG and get to experience the ride. But I'm also really hoping for one that gets called back in the morning or afternoon...

unless they have it set up where Backups are half the number of guests as regular. They have averaged close to 14/hr so it being 24/hr at the end of the night kind of fits that possibility.

I have been reading through posts, and trying to figure out how to get in a boarding group. Is it done in the Disney Experience app? And can only be done in park after opening? Going February 7th. Help?

I will remain consistent in my assessment that I believe all BGs have an equal number of people. 🤣 I just can’t believe it’s any more complex than that personally.

Also there are on the ground reports of the line spilling out of the entrance and being quoted long wait times by CMs at the end of the night. This is very different from our daytime friends who regularly are on and off within an hour or less.

Yes--in the My Disney Experience (MDE or to some MDX) app.
Yes--you have to (a) be in the park and so does everyone else who is going on RotR with you and (b) the BGs are released at park opening time. Be ready at the exact time. The BGs are going fast!

Edited for precision: You have to actually have gone through the entry to the park--you can't just be standing around outside the entrance--and scanned in and so does every single person who is going to ride with you. Merely having them on your app does nothing. They have to be there.

Yes. If you download and open the app, you will see info on the App's homepage.

Any reports of boarding group time overlapping with existing fastpass selections? While we could drop a tier 2, with back-to-back FP windows and a complete unknown with what BG you might be assigned - I could easily see missing a pre-booked FP.

Can guest assistance modify an existing FP on something like SDD if this happens?

When your boarding group is called, you have two hour window to get on the ride. Even if you have back to back fast passes, you still should have plenty of time.

I think there have been scattered reports of CMs at the other attractions (and restaurants) accommodating late arrivals because of ROTR. That would be CM dependant, I imagine. I do know I have seen guests talk their way into a FP line for less legitimate reasons than a BG conflict, so there’s that lol.

I think even with back to back FP you should be okay with a 2 hour window for a BG? Worst case scenario you get called for your BG right at the start of the 2 hour block of fast passes, in that case I would do FP #1 if it’s a quick one, ROTR, then FP #2. Honestly though, in DHS you’re likely only holding one valuable FP anyways. Do what you need to do to use that one.

Yes, you get a boarding group through the app. Plan to arrive in time to get through security and through the turnstiles in plenty of time before the official park opening. As soon as HS is open, they will open boarding groups in the app, and you can try and secure one. Depending on lots of things (which we don't know!), they can be gone in moments, or take a little longer. The first 100+ boarding groups are filled, and then they fill back up boarding groups, which may or may not get to ride. Everyone in your party should be logged in to the same account, and you can all try and select all, and grab a boarding group.

Really appreciate all the info on here! I read back a few dozen pages the past couple of days. lol. I'll be following along every day I'm sure.
I'm one of those people that will be there the week of MMRR opening up. My current plan is to do DHS for RotR the weekend prior to MMRR opening. We plan to go back to DHS the weekend after MMRR opens before we drive back home. Though if for some reason we're not able to ride RotR by that point, it'll be our priority. If we get to ride MMRR I'll consider it a trip bonus.

yeah, it makes the most sense. Could just be to get all the backups called too if reachable. I wonder if a CM might have an idea about the late night surges.

Is there any info on the approximate number of people in a BG? Do we even know if it is a constant?

I am not sure they will keep punting on morning EMH at DHS, here's why:

Once ROTR opens at Disneyland they will have essentially a live test of how to do BG with EMH 3 times a week, since they have their early entry/MM, and unlike at DHS it's not exactly something they can move to the evening there. They have to figure it out.

So I imagine that when they find something that works in DL, that same plan will go to EMH at DHS pretty quickly.
Disneyland EMH are Tomorrowland and Fantasyland only.

Also keep in mind, once you are assigned a BG number you can leave HS. Some people do and return to HS when their BG is called. Staying in HS is not required.
