the other day when CM where extended to stay until 12:30am riding it non stop (my CM friend rode 12 times) it didn't break down once,

This is fascinating to me... The experimenter in me asks the question; what was different? The literal time of day it was running, and the riders were all CM's. I wonder if there was anything else they tweaked that night because it was CM's riding instead of guests; the speed, the elements, etc...

I updated the app this morning and now it is functioning worse than before. I've tried opening it 10-15 times and on most of my attempts it will not open at all. Just sits on the purple castle screen for 5-6 minutes and then shuts down entirely. I have gotten it to actually open 3 times and it opened in about 5 seconds on each of those tries, but definitely not consistent at all. At least on the previous version the app would eventually open. It just took about 2 minutes for that to happen. Now I can't be sure it will open at all. I guess I need to call Disney tech support.
Same - mine is now an absolute mess.

My uneducated guess would be CMs behave better than guests. No or much less loading issues, people go where they’re told when they’re told, that kind of thing.

Or ROTR is a night owl.

The ride was the same as regular guests get.

Adding:
10:38-out of the ride. I think we were very lucky. Line was constantly moving.

Our day so far:
6:45 - out of our Little Mermaid room
6:58 - loading into bus
7:01 - out to DHS
7:15 - through bagless scan
7:18 - through ticket tap stiles on the right
7:18-7:50- Tried to find 4 bars on TMobile. Moved around to about 5 different places. Settled by Frozen, where it stayed mostly 4 bars.
7:59:50 - launched app
8:00:05 - find out more
- Join Boarding Group was NOT red.
- Clicked My Status. Join Boarding Group was active. Got BG 22.
9:36 - BG 22 called
9:42-entered queau
10:38-out of the ride! It was awesome!

BG 22! I did it, we rode it. It was awesome, thanks to all!

my mistake, I thought 71 was the last regular from yesterday.
There are so many variables that we simply don't know that it's a complete waste of time and effort to try and figure what's happening (imho) it's a shame that there's a downward trend happening, the other day when CM where extended to stay until 12:30am riding it non stop (my CM friend rode 12 times) it didn't break down once, so, for everyone, just know that they are trying to figure it out, they are not purposefully running the attraction as is just because they want to.
So interesting. Wonder if it’s something the guests are doing?
Too many cell phones??
Years ago I worked at EPCOT (Center😂) when it first opened. Universe of Energy (a early version of trackless) and the ride would just shut down and they could not figure out why. This was still happening months after opening.
One of the managers just kept riding to see If he could figure out the problem. Finally he saw the problem ... they had painted the floor and sometimes static electricity would form under the car shutting the ridedown😱😱😱
It took having him sitting in the right position at the right time to see this.
They removed the paint from the floor and problem solved.

I don’t know if it was here or the DLR thread but people have referenced cell phones interfering with the ride. Who knows how accurate though.

But that is dedication to ride Universe of Energy over and over. Twice is about an hour and a half!

This is an interesting point.
During the media preview i rode at like 7am and worked perfectly but there weren't a lot of media there yet.
The ride closed for about 2 hours in the morning because of tech difficulties, when it reopened i went to ride and they asked us to put the phones away. Later the other 2 times i was able to record and live stream, i asked a manager and they said they were trying to fix the cell signal problems and switch to other frequency.... just one more thing we will ever know for sure

I saw a YouTube video claimimg that multiple types of RF communication are used, and an early problem was eliminating dead zones.

Lots of people who've tried to "smarten" their home know how problematic it can be to keep all the parts communicating.

Is it just me, or is anyone else doubting the accuracy of what that CM said, that groups hold more people now?

They are filling way faster than before. Even if BG have more people than they did back in December and January to account for the lower number handed out, it’s still clear that BG (no matter how they play with back up va regular) are gone sooner, leading me to guess that less people are getting through the attraction than during the beginning and even during busy holiday time. If BG had more people in them but everything else remained similar, they would still be lasting longer than they are. Right, or am I off in my thinking?

I have to think total operating hours are making a big impact. We would often see patterns where the ride would be down for extended amounts but then push people through at a very fast rate when up. There’s just less time in a day to do that when you’ve got 2+ less hours in a day.
Yes there is no way they are upping the number of people getting BGs. It would be interesting to know how attendance compares between Christmas week and now. Christmas week BGs lasted a long time. Admittedly the park hours were longer by at least 2 or 3 hours but I don’t think that accounts for the whole difference. I’d put money on the table that there are in fact fewer people in BGs right now than Christmas. I would not be surprised to find that Disney is using that unknown number to hide the true extent of the reliability problems. Igor poked Universal on Hagrid’s reliability. He’s not going to eat humble pie on RotR.

My father is going do HS to try ROTR, but he’s not very fast with his phone.

Can I log into his account from outside and get him a boarding group? (he’s going to be inside, of couse)

A very personal post and I know that most people here on the Dis are not these type of guests but my DD just got yelled at (she works at MFSR) because a lady got offered a fp for the RotR and she wanted to use it on both MFSR and RotR. When my DD told her she had to pick one she started screaming at her.....don't be this person, better yet, be the person that if you see this happening stand up for the CM.

We got group 23...got right into app and right through in about 5 seconds.

You must have really fast fingers and/or extremely strong connections. When I do tests pushing “Find Out More” precisely at 8:00:00, then push “My Status”, then “Join a Boarding Group” and then enter my boarding party (2 additional people), I don‘t get to the “Not So Fast” screen until about 8:00:15. That 15 seconds includes reaction time to push buttons and brief time waiting for each successive screen to load.

Its hard for me to imagine that getting through that whole process in 5 seconds.

This reminds me of the time I saw a guest getting indignant with a CM at 7DMT because she thought her FP entitled her to ride as many times as she could in the one hour window.

I posted yesterday that I can get thru in about 5-6 seconds consistently with my 10xsmax...with fast wi-fi or a good ATT signal..2 or more bars.
MDE is a graphics heavy app and newer phone chip sets will load them faster, older phones take longer to render the graphics. My 5s takes forever and crashes all the time with the same connection.

I have seen people talking about having everyone in your party try to get boarding passes for ROTR at the same time. If you do this, is everyone logged into the “main” person’s account, or logged in as themselves? My account is the main one, my husband can “manage plans,” but my daughter doesn’t have that option. She’s about to turn 13 though, so I trust her to try too. Would there be any sort of problem if she was logged into my account too and we were both trying to get boarding passes?
