Sons baseball travel team may be participating in the 2012 Rawlings Tournament. He may also go to Cooperstown instead. Trying to decide if this tournament is worth it. Cost wise, it looks cheaper than Cooperstown. Anyone have any experience? Below are some of my questions>

1. What hotels did you stay at? Can you choose and did you got thru Disney Sports Travel.

2. Did you have time to go to the parks? According to this years schedule ,it looks like there is time. Please advsie.

3. Can you get more than the 3 day park hopers that come with the packages?

***Any advice, issues, would like to hear, thanks****

Can't help you on 1 or 2 but..

3 The tickets you will most likely get are YES tickets (Youth Education Series).

These tickets are highly discounted but are super restrictive. They can't be upgraded in any way and they only have a two week life span so you can't save them for future use.

1. What hotels did you stay at? Can you choose and did you got thru Disney Sports Travel. If you're talking about Disney hotels, I'm pretty sure only the values/POR/CBR have buses running to the complex

2. Did you have time to go to the parks? According to this years schedule ,it looks like there is time. Please advsie.Yes, you should have time, but being in the summer and most games are played in the morning/afternoon, the parks will be crowded when you get there. As the week progresses and teams are eliminated from the tournament, you will probably have more time to visit the parks.

3. Can you get more than the 3 day park hopers that come with the packages? You can always purchase more tickets but not sure about upgrading. You can even buy park tickets while at the complex

Looks like there are 3 hotel choices: All Star Sports, Carribean Beach or Port Orleans Riverside. Port Orleans Riverside just started a major refurb and by next July they should be pretty much done, so all the rooms will be equipped with queen beds and new decor. Leaning towards Port Orleans.

Does anyone have any experience with this event?

Bummed that with the Disney Package you cannot buy the dining plan.

I really do not mind that the tickets will expire as we will be there for an event and would not plan on coming back that year anyways (being from Chicagoland). We are lucky if we can go every 2 years.

Trying to get pros/cons of this event from anyone. Would like to be able to sell this event to my sons baseball team. Some of the team is interested in going to Cooperstown, while some of us are seeing this as a better event. Help, what do you thinK?

I know you have been trying for what two weeks to get any feed back but I just don't think there are many DIS'ers that have gone to or have any knowledge of these tournaments.

Maybe you should try another approach and try to find baseball league forums to post on.

Thnaks Chartle, one would think there is someone who is a Diser or knows someone who did it.

I just think you have to start here.

http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/baseball/rawlings-international-salute/

and research here.

http://www.google.com/search?source...gc.r_pw.&fp=e7a0bbe362cc4009&biw=1440&bih=809

Its just too small and unique to have a major presents (sp?) of people who have gone to on these boards.

There are thousands more that do the Band, Dance and Cheerleader competitions and I see very few posts about them.

I can give you info on how to coordinate a band trip for 50 to 70 band members but that's about all.

All the posts about Pop Warner are how bad the kids are. :goodvibes

I would like to know info too. I have always loved the idea of going to Disney to enjoy my favorite thing, watching my son play baseball. Hoping to sell the idea also

Thanks for the google info, already have looked at the ESPN site. I really hope we sell this to all the parents, sounds awesome.

I have begun researching a baseball tournament for my son's team at Disney World as well. Here is the information I have received, hopefully this will be helpful. We were looking at the tournament at the end of May over the holiday weekend. The tournament runs from Friday to Monday with each team playing one game on each day - Fri, Sat and Sun. There would then be bracket play on Monday to finish the tournament. Games can start as early as 8:00am and are scheduled to finish no later than 2:00pm unless there is a weather issue.

As it was explained to me, the tournament is set up for teams to get some playing time and also spend time at the parks. The resorts available are All Star Sports and CBR. Each player and coach is required to purchase a "package" during the event. The "package" for this tournament included hotel for 4 nights, two day park hopper tickets, transportation during the event to the tournament and entry to the tournament for the entire event. The 2011 prices were approximately $300 per person if staying at All Star Sports or $350 per person if staying at CBR. The team also has to pay a registration fee of $425. Family members can also purchase the "package" at the same cost. There is no additional discount for children which I thought was unfortunate - but it is still a decent deal from rack rates. I believe they can also extend the ticket days or hotel days, but I'm not sure the difference in cost.

So far, all of our parents are interested in going but I have a few left to hear from. We are discussing fundraising opportunities to help the players with the trip.

Good luck!

Not sure about the Baseball part but can tell you im from Cooperstown area and there is NOTHING TO DO HERE i would much rather be in Disney World

Prior to playing, there will be a coaches meeting/registration where coaches will pick up credentials for the coaches and players (NOTE: do not try to say you are a coach if you aren't. You will be asked at the turnstiles when you enter the park with a coaches credential. If it's obvious you aren't a coach, your ticket will be confiscated and you will have to purchase another to get inside the park.).

Parents, friends and family must purchase a ticket to get into the complex. They are 14.50 for adults and 10 for children as of now. However, there is also length of even tickets that are cheaper than buying individual days if you know you want to attend all the games in the tournament. With your tickets/credentials you gain access to the complex and all the venues UNLESS there is a premium event going on (Braves training, some USSSA softball games, pop warner, etc). During Rawlings, however, I don't think that would be an issue.

Make sure your athlete writes his/her name/number on their credential. The complex uses biometrics just like the parks. If the coach is keeping up with all the tickets, it makes it much easier to decipher who's ticket is whose if they have their name/number on them. They should be told all this at registration.

Coolers, as of now, are permitted, as well as lawn chairs/tents. Coolers will be inspected prior to entering the complex, so no alcohol or glass containers. You cannot buy ice inside the complex, so if you require ice, the closest hess -- exit the complex, go straight through the light, follow the road to the end, and take a left at the redlight. Hess will be on your left.

Athletic trainers are available, however if your athlete needs tape, you must purchase your own. You can do that at any of the merchandise shops at the complex.

Photopass is available to nearly all events. Game Day photos are located inside the HP Field House and Josten's Center.

Equipment carts are available for your courtesy. An able bodied member of the team must ride with the equipment and be able to load/unload the cart.

There is no tram/carts from the parking lot to the entrance. It can be quite the walk if you play late in the day and park in the grass. If there is a cast member directing you to the grass, you may still drive to the front and drop off players. I would suggest going back to the grass and parking instead of trying to find a spot. It's not really that much closer and you will save yourself some valuable time. Do not park in the median unless directed to do so. You could be towed and end up walking MUCH further.

There is a side gate that baseball players can go in. If you are playing in fields 1-11, and already have your tickets, you can go through the side gate located at field 1 if it's open. It's usually open around 8 am.

Mickey and Friends do drop by some days :)

There is one hidden Mickey in the entire complex. he's inside, in the air conditioning. I won't tell you where :)

There is one table service restaurant, The ESPN Grill. It opens around 11 am and closes at 7 pm. There is a bar. Alcohol is not permitted inside the competition venues.

There is multiple quick service locations throughout the complex.

Keep an eye out for Minor Braves Players. They may be practicing while you're there!

You can check on finding last minute ADR's, extending your stay or buying park tickets right from the welcome center inside the complex.

There are usually special tshirts with all the names of the teams participating in the events available for purchase. YOu can also have custom made tshirts printed in the Josten's Center.

Some games are broadcast on ESNP2 and ESPN3.com as well as snippets played throughout the complex on the jumbotron and big screens.

Thanks for the info. I called Disney Sports Travel and they told me for the July tournament our hotel choices are: All Star Sports, Carribean Beach and also Port Orleans Riverside. Not sure of the prices yet, will have to call them back. I also heard that the registration fee is $265 vs $465 if you sign up before Oct 31st.
Keep in touch with me and let me know how it goes, thanks.

With this event we have to go thru Disney Sports Travel with a hotel package which includes tickets if we want. They are park hopper tickets ( will these not get us into ESPN? Or is that a special add on? I also heard that the complex offers a golf cart to carry all the boys equipment, and one member of the team must go on the cart to ride to the field. Is this not true?

You have to either purchase tickets at the box office specifically for the complex or have the water park fun and more option on your main theme park tickets. Park hoppers will not get you into the complex.

The complex does offer an equipment cart that will carry the equipment and one able bodied member of the team must accompany the equipment to load/unload it.

I should clarify, the athletes tickets are included in the registration. Family and friends are not.
