Do I want to plan on doing the water rapids ride at DAK this time of year?

It is seasonal....many times it will actually not even be running, depending on the temp of course.

I have seen it running in Dec with cold temps and the CM selling ponchos at the entrance to the ride so you dont get wet.

I wouldn't, but I am a total wimp about being cold. Cold and wet--that would just about kill me! Enjoy!

We were there in early Dec on a chilly day, wore our ponchos (tucked around) and while the water that hit us was cold, we didn't get wet and had a great time!

We always go in Jan and on several trips it has been down right cold. The Rapids has always been running. They have a heater type thing set up just after the bridge to help dry you off on really cold days. But as the other posters said, wear a poncho and you should be OK.

Umm, no, Kali River Rapids is NOT a seasonal attraction. It is open year round. Kali is, however, a seasonal offering for Extra Magic Hours ... however, it's been open for evening EMH for all of December, so I'm not sure what season they'd close it in.

Its little a little jet engine type thing... only way i can describe it. They have them at NFL games a lot.

We didn't get wet on it at all. That was by far the biggest disappointment of my whole Disney trip. What a waste of time!

Good morning Poohluvr, my fellow Jovi fan.

what about my feet? wont they get wet too?

I'm thinking the rest of my family won't want to do this... am I missing anything good if I skip it?

Unless you are JOKING...

Did you WANT to get wet?

If so, the odds are that if you rode it AGAIN, you would get wet, very wet DRENCHED, SOPPING WET.

That's been my experience. And the experience of thousands upon thousands of others.

We never miss it or other water type rides. Its 80 degrees in Florida now, according to national weather but to some, its a once in a life time vacation. Ponchos keep ya fairly dry but its a water ride. Take the plunge, enjoy the ride and scenery and when you get home you can say " I did the rapids" !!

We brought sandals the day we went to DAK. We changed into the sandals, wore our ponchos, and put all of our belongings into a plastic garbage bag. The center of the raft is not large enough for everyone's stuff. We rode the ride twice in a row, then changed back into our socks and shoes. Portions of our legs an rear ends got wet, but nothing major. We would have been soaked without the ponchos.

During the winter months, I have found that many of the 'extra' features of the ride (such as the elephant statues squirting water at the end) are turned off or aimed away from the rafts, so the only thing that will get you wet is the main drop, and even then you have to be sitting in the unlucky seat to get more than just a little damp.

Of course, if you ride Kali on a hot day, you'll have about four or five chances to get soaked at various places throughout the ride...

You can store your shoes in the middle thing...

When I've been there in winter, they have those huge hot-air-blowing machiens that will dry your clothes in about 3 minutes.

We go in Jan and usually ride the rapids. The rapids and the dinosaur ride are pretty much the only ones we do at AK. We usually get wet, maybe not soaked but wet, and we've haven't been that cold. We are also used to it being about 10 degrees in Jan so the 60's-70's in WDW is nice and warm (even when wet)!

If it's your only trip there for a while ride it and enjoy it. :Pinkbounc

So it's OK to remove your shoes when on the ride? A wet bottom is one thing, but wet sneakers --- blah.

I could be wrong, (someone please correct me if I am), but I do believe that you have to leave your shoes on.
