My daughter will be about six weeks shy of her 18th birthday on our next cruise she really wants to use rainforest room. Anyone have any experience with having a teen this close to 18 be able to participate in adult activities.

Sorry. The spa is for ages 18 and over, no exceptions.

My DD turned 18 on the ship. She went in to make an appointment and was told that it would have to be scheduled on or after her birthday. When she went in, the woman commented that they wouldn't have been able to see her "yesterday." We also were able to go to Palo ON the birthday; again, the manager made it very clear that her reservation would have to be on or after THE day (no problem since that is what we wanted anyhow.)

It will make a nice treat for your daughter on the next cruise. Also, you didn't ask, but they do card on an irregular basis in various adult areas of the ship.

I do not think she well be able to get into the Rainforest room because the look at the Key to the world card.

I went on the Magic last year when i was still 17....wasnt able to do any of the adult activities.

Theyare pretty strict, my son wasn't even allowed into, the adult coffee shop,
Would she want to go to the Teen Spa for a Treatment. 

My older DD was 'carded' at the adult pool multiple times on 3 different Disney cruises when she was 18, 20 & 21. Its a sore subject for her. Younger DD never was 'carded' anywhere on the ship. :confused3 Neither tried to use the spa or go to Palo's, though.

It's a shame it's a sore subject for your daughter, but there really isn't any other way for the CM's to know she is of the appropriate age.
I hope it wouldn't deter her from cruising again :goodvibes

My DD was never carded until after she had turned 18...unless you count the time that she was politely informed that The Stack was reserved for teens (she was 16 at the time!) She laughed and said that she guessed that answered the question of whether she "looked" 18.

Why ask? 18 and over means 18 and over. Keep the adult areas adult only please. Kids run amok on the ship as it is already.

Doesn't everyone bend or break the rules to suit themselves these days? :confused3

It's written there in black and white, yet some feel they need to ask if they can be excused, or if it's ok to ignore it to suit their want's. It's sad.

It is possible that the OP had read the threads about how Disney is flexible with the kids club ages (admittedly now the club format has changed those threads don't appear as often) and wonders if they also show a little flexibility one the adult areas.

While I personally agree that over 18 means over 18 and, as KCashner has pointed out, Disney also takes this stance, both posts above come across as harsh. The OP didn't say the daughter should be allowed or was entitled to, just asked the question. That is what the forum is supposed to be about isn't it?

In fairness, DCL allows those <3 into the clubs if they are potty trained and "close" to their birthdays, even though it is advertised as for those over 3 years old. They allow some flexibility in the age up or down for the Edge group - into the Lab, or just under the Edge age to move up to Edge. So, for those who haven't experienced that particular age group to know whether the rules are REALLY rules and are enforced or not, then it's not unreasonable to ask.

Yes, there ARE some rules that DCL does enforce, thank goodness. The leap from 17 years, 364 days to 18 and therefore the adult stuff is one of them. I'd rather people ask here and get the answer than have expectations that it will all work out (like the guy who insisted he'd get his under-ten-year-old into Palo) and then be sorely disappointed.

Evidently I type too slowly - the pp just beat me to saying more or less the same thing!

Whilst there are many many thread's about kid's being a couple of week's away from meeting the age to be able to join a club, lab, or youth hangout spaces, or flip flop between them, the adult areas are specifically mentioned at being 18 years or older.

And there are also an equal amount of threads about if younger than 18 years old Guests being able to use these spaces in all fairness.

The OP has also cruised before in '09, so also knows the rope's as it were. And it's a 6 week difference, not 2 or 1 week.

Sorry but they know the answer to their question, and are fishing for a work around or someone else to say "we did it and it was fine!"

OK gang...it's time to play nice. OP made one post only. The fact that they have sailed before with a young teen doesn't mean that they know the way it would work for an "almost 18" and DCL does complicate matters by not adhering strictly to ages in most other areas. In fact, the only other ages that I know are followed strictly is that one must be 12 weeks old to cruise and 21 to purchase alcohol on the ship.

OP might be looking for a way around the rules or might be asking a simple question. I don't think it our place to judge the motive. The question has been answered in various ways, all saying essentially the same thing. I'm going to wish the 17 year old a happy cruise as a teen, and hope she cruises at a later date when she can enjoy the adult areas.

I am the DD of the OP. I dont appreciate all of the rude comments about this post. As a fifteen year old i was able to swim in the adult pool and no one said anything. Also the teen club allowed people who just turned 18 in the teen area. We are not trying to just suit the rules to oursleves but as a mature young adult I would rather participate in the adult activities as the teen activities are too immature and not suited to older teenagers.

The issue of 18s in the teen club is a matter of DCL policy. 18s who have not graduated from high school OR during the summer between high school and college are allowed in the teen area. This is a long standing policy.

Unfortunately, your post that at 15 you were "able" to swim in the adult pool will probably add fuel to the discussion. So...at 15 you were violating DCL rules and want to know if you can still get away with it? :confused3 I'll be quiet before I say something that will get me in trouble.

i will bite the bullet and say it.....

So who posted the original question? You Or your Father since you obviously have access to his DIS profile?

As a 15 year old you decided you were mature enough to use the ADULTS ONLY pool as a minor, and you got away with it.
Congratulations! :yay:

You may think you are a mature young adult, your post above says otherwise.
You may wish to participate in the adult activities, but you are not allowed to! Adult's may not wish to be in the company of minor's, and you should respect that, as should you respect the age rule.
You are not an older teenager, you are a teenager below the age of 18, and I'm really sorry if the activities aren't to your liking, but what is offered is what is offered, and you can chose to partake or not to.

If you cannot abide by the rules set out, please stay at home, and wait until you are of age.

What's with the hostility?

A simple and perfectly reasonable question was asked--I can see a justification for either side. On the one hand, it's quite ludicrous to maintain that someone's restaurant (or spa) experience would be completely ruined if a person aged 17 years and 364 days was allowed in, but just fine the next day. On the other, if you start making exceptions it starts down a slippery slope.

All this required was a simple answer-the desire to mind other people's business for them is not indicative of "maturity" either.

The poster under the name of her fathers profile "pkoles" has admitted to blatantly ignoring the rules asked by DCL to suit her own desires and swim in the 18's and over pool at 15.
She felt she was mature enough to make that decision that she shouldn't obey the rules.
Now she want's to use the adult only facilities that she still isn't old enough to use but she think's she is mature enough? :confused3
Disobeying clear rules, using someone else's account, asking for advice about breaking the rules again.
Also 6 week's isn't 1 day. A month and a half is a fair amount of time, and the rules are laid out, and should be observed IMO.

I hope it's just the screwed up order of post's that your comment is based upon.

If I go to a bar at 6 weeks shy of 21, I won't get served a drink either. Not even at 20 years and 364 days. There are ages where hard and fast rules apply, and 18 and 21 are those. 6 weeks shy of 18, you are still legally a minor and NOT an adult, so adult areas are still going to be off limits. Sorry OP, that's just the way it is.
