Rainbow instead of green after scanning your magic band?

I've noticed that after some people scan their magic band at rides they get a rainbow light instead of green. Does anyone know why?

"Special" MagicBands.

Certain MBs cause unique things to happen at some of the scanners.

I got the BB8 Magic Band and when I scanned it last week it turned all weird colors and made a noise at certain FP locations.

If you're seeing it fairly regularly right now, it's likely the Summer Awakens BB-8 Magic Bands. I imagine there will be a decent amount of people with them.

My haunted mansion make your own magicband which is not an effects band has been making some noises and different colors but I think the first dates the awaken summer dates was this week so it should get a little more common..

My Easter and DVC bands make a rainbow when I scan them.

My Frozen Fever Band from the Flower & Garden Fest 2015 makes rainbows at some scanners but not at all of them.
