I posted this on my trip report, but wanted share our experience at Raglan Road.

Let me just start by saying that the service and food were excellent. For appetizer, we had the Drunk Chicken, really juicy chicken kabobs with a delicious dipping sauce. For dinner, we ordered Sirloin in the Whiskey sauce with mashed potatoes and It's Not Bleedin' Chowder. Both were excellent. The seafood "not"-chowder was dreamy. The sirloin was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared the Bailey's Tiramisu. It was also excellent.

Our bad experience came at the very end of our meal. While waiting for the dessert, the band members started setting up in the stage. We were seated right next to the stage in a table for 3. One of the band members apparently needed a chair and proceeded to take one of ours without even glancing our way. I mean, really, how hard is it to ask if he could use the chair? Granted, we weren’t using it, but couldn’t he just show a little manners and courtesy? We wouldn’t have denied him. On the contrary, we were really looking forward to the music. But to be ignored in such a rude way really got to me. I was soooo angry. Our waiter noticed the change in mood in our table but didn’t really inquire much…. I just told him that I didn’t know Irish people were so rude. After our dessert, we just paid for our meal and went to talk to the manager. I explained what happened and told her that this small act of rudeness ruined what would have been an otherwise great experience and that they lost our business for the rest of the evening. I had no interest in listening to the band after that (or ordering any more beverages, if you know what I mean). She apologized but what else could she do? I certainly wasn’t going to stay. But I got it out of my chest… cuz if I didn’t, it would really ruin my evening. So we left and came back to the resort. It’s ok, we need to get up really early for our Backstage Safari.

I agree the band member should have asked about the chair but not sure why that ruined your evening?

Keep in mind that there are so many people out there that aren't always curteous. You shouldn't let something as simple as that ruin your night. When I go to Disney, I always have to remind myself that I will run into
A LOT of rude people, and to not let it bother me!! I refuse to let rude people ruin my vacation.

I agree that what the band member did was wrong, but I too would not have let this ruin my evening.

Just curious, why did you feel the need to use the phrase "I didn't know Irish people were so rude". Would you have used the same phrase in an all black restaurant? German? Italian? Just not understanding what his ethnic backround has to do with this......................

Not having someone ask permission to use your spare chair "ruined" your evening? Seriously?!? And to make a general statement about an entire culture of people simply because of the acts of one... well, I won't even go there.

Since my daughter in law is very Irish (she and my son live in Ireland) I just had to say that I don't think Irish people are rude at all. They are a very friendly bunch, in fact. We've been to Ireland, and we've had lots of very nice people showning nothing but kindness. One rude guy doesn't make an entire race rude, believe me.
I'm not sure why someone taking a chair you weren't using would ruin your evening..even if he didn't ask first.

I would hardly cite this faux pas as evidence that the barbarians are taking over and I probably wouldn't have taken notice, certainly it wouldn't put a dent in an enjoyable meal.

since everyone else already beat you up, i wont join in.

Sorry the band member taking a chair from your table without your permission dampened your experience. We found everyone we encountered at Raglan Road to be lovely and can't wait to go back. Jay, in particular, who was from Ireland, chatted with us for quite a while, even telling us stories of our ancestors from Ireland.

There's a book you might find helpful called "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff, and It's All Small Stuff".

Because if a chair can ruin your evening, man, you need some help with perspective...

No, what ruined your evening was your response. The ONLY thing in life you can control is YOU....

I was expecting something more. Honestly, if I let every rude person I encounter "ruin" my day, pretty much every day would be ruined. It's just not worth getting upset. Perhaps you should have mentioned to the band member that you found it inconsiderate of him to remove a chair from your table without acknowledging you...which could have been done in a polite way. You don't respond to rudeness with rudeness or you're no better than they are.

What? Your night was ruined??? I can't count how often this happens to me in food courts, etc. If that's your biggest worry in life, you've got it pretty good.

We were at the counter service area in Animal Kingdom - 4 of us, my Mom and I got our food and went to a table to hold for us and the others who were coming. A woman who was with her family of 5 proceeded to take our chair from our table without a glance or asking and when I got up to say excuse me that seat is taken, she still left it at her table!!! I had to go get it while she proceeded to take a chair from someone else's table without a glance or permission. Her "accent" was certainly NOT Irish, definitely American.

In a hurry said:
I'm just glad that we americans are so much more polite!

Sorry hon, it's also been Americans who have taken my chairs.

I think you're going to encounter rude people everywhere regardless of race, ethnicity, age, location, etc...

Honestly, I don't even know if I would *notice* a band member taking a chair we weren't using. :confused3

He took a chair you weren't using!!!!??? What kind of monster does that??!!!

OH THE HUMANITY!!

Rude as it is it isn't the stuff that ruins an evening, now had the band member vomited on you while you were sitting there and no one done anything than that would be cause for alarm!

ROFLMGDAO!! I agree! It's not like the guy leaned over and took a piece of food off of your plate...

Personally when I am on vacation I don't allow little things to ruin my enjoyment. Life's too short to get upset over an empty chair.
