Quick trip to the World and this time I am not nuts

I don’t think the TR is going that well so I decided not to finish it. Too much time to do it and am not pleased with the way it is reading. Sorry.

I can't find me a slap across the face smilie but I'll keep a lookin'.

I wish I could be all supportive but I just don't have it in me tonight.

Listen Mr. Perfectionist - over 600 friggin' hits in mere days - can you not just be selfless and feed your audience? Can't you? Or pop an old painkiller or something? I have some Tylenol 3s hanging around if you want to do some cross border shopping. :rotfl2: We'll call it free trade.

And I hate to feed your ego ;) :lmao: but your worst day of writing - hmmm well it's not some's best by a long shot Mr. am not pleased with the way it is reading. (see the winks after ego in case you're all sensitive....)

I at least want your thoughts on BLT. Yes, I'm demanding. You have created such a monster. ;) by your poor poor prose. popcorn:: And plus you never entertained me on mine. Apparently you let your short hospital stay stop you.

I know how TRs can feel like a PT job at times - I barely made it through mine in January - but at the same time I want you to feel the guilt of not continuing. ;););) (See how important the smilies are, see?)

Thank you lisaviolet...my thoughts exactly.

Yes, you have to at least tell us about BLT. And then you can rest up some more. Let your creative juices fill up again.

:banana::banana:Yay, he's back!!!:banana::banana:

So happy you're out of the hospital, sounds just awful. And ahhh yes, the sweet sixteen party in that gorgeous grand villa, how could we ever forget? LOVED that whole report:thumbsup2.

A solo trip ha? Sure! Bring it on. I cannot wait.:woohoo:

Ok here, maybe this will help:flower3:, please? We're spending our 25th wedding anniversary at BLT in 6 weeks.:thumbsup2

Come back, come back, oh please come back!

You can be 100% certain we'll all let you know if your TR "doesn't read right" (grin)...

Let’s see. Today is April 2nd. So when I posted yesterday it was what day?

Gotcha! Lisa, I am so glad it was you to lead the charge. Thanks for the chuckles. Next update may be Sunday but more probably Monday.

April 1st, yes? April fool's joke?

:goodvibes

Spoil Sport.

YEAH! I too am your back and feeling better! I've followed all of your TR's and they just crack me up! I always look forward to them and am really excited for this one! I'm living vicariously through you as well, my next trip is a biggie with the whole family, Sept. 2012! I don't think I could do a trip report, it would certainly not be any match to yours! I'm just excited to see my niece's reaction to the castle for the very first time!!

But I digress.....I'm subing and can't wait for the next installment! Take care of yourself!!

Goody for the September trip. You can’t beat watching reactions of first timers. I don’t suggest that you necessarily do a TR but you should figure a way to commemorate and remember the trip. The family would love it.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, even good enough for a trip to WDW! I enjoy your trip reports, so I'm looking forward to this one, even if you are throwing in pictures from Key West! LOL

I felt like I cheated you with so few pics in the last installment. I showed them to a friend who is a professional underwater photographer and he had very nice things to say about them. Daddy’s pride showing by posting them here.

Hey hey, welcome back mon (i.e., man in Jamaican English). I am sorry to hear about your medical issues. I hope you are on the mend now. Thanks much for writing a trip report. You are a funny guy, fun to read. Sorry your daughter is not with you on this trip. How dare she stay home to work on a school project! Good kid.

Looking forward to more entertainment.

Kate

Hi spoil sport. So have you made plans for your daughter and her friends trip for her 16th? Couldn’t resist throwing that in.

It's all the medication that's still circulating in your body;) I mean, really, that's some kind of anticipation of getting to WDW a day early. I know you can get that pineapple with caramel sauce at Ohana's, just don't know what my dad did to get it and the bread pudding when we were there last. And thanks for the side trip to the Keys, haven't ever been there...nice pictures.

I wish I could blame the medication but they didn’t give me any of the good stuff to take home. Maybe I should be in a Disney commercial, “He was so excited for his trip that he left a day early.” I think the confusion stemmed from planning and then canceling the college road trips.

Have a good weekend everyone.

No plans for the 16th bd yet but Sarah and I are taking a girls only trip to the world in June. We try to take our daughter on an one-on-one trip every year or so. Dad generally takes her camping, me - wherever. This year Disney won.

One of my favorite trips - New Orleans - a conference and Mardi Gras. We flew down and took the train back, the sleeper car experience was almost as much fun as the parades in N.O.

Ok, so not funny...well, a little funny:goodvibes

Now chop chop, on to "our" first full day at BLT. :thumbsup2

Let’s see. Today is April 2nd. So when I posted yesterday it was what day?

OMG, I think my mind goes to mush when my DGD is over here. I was being so careful all day...:worship::worship: Good one. But honestly I was going to find that slap in the head smilie for lisaviolet, actually for all of us. But I was just too tired after chasing my DGD all over the back yard and stopping her from taking flying leaps onto the mat in front of the fireplace...she's 18 months. After reading your TRs, I always think my DH and I would love to treat her when she's older to a special WDW trip...BUT don't know whether us old folks will have fast enough running shoes to keep up with her. Maybe we can recruit your DD to be a grandparent helper? :goodvibes

One of the things about being a single dad is that it is your responsibility for all the vacations. Been camping together but not the train. Always wanted to do that. Put it on the maybe list.

Sorry about that. I couldn’t resist. Update coming later today.

She would be up for it. Not sure if you would want her to. She might be taking her on all the scary rides.

Day 1 Part 2 Sunday, March 13: AKA “Your room is ready”

So I headed up to the fourth floor of the Contemporary for the walkway to BLT. Javier told me I had a nice room on the 12th floor and the other CM that told me my room was ready confirmed it.

Nice looking sign. Can’t hear or see “Welcome Home” enough.
IMG_0871.jpg

The elevators for the South Tower where I was staying are right across the walkway entrance. A quick trip to the 12th floor and a short walk to my abode for the next three days. I always get excited as I enter a room for the first time especially the first visit to a resort.

Room 8235. Man these doors were heavy. Opening them felt like trying to move a bank vault door.
IMG_0652.jpg

The living room area. Good sized flat screen TV. Still haven’t gotten one for the house. Soon though.
IMG_0635.jpg

This is near the window. The chair converts to a bed which I didn’t need. From what I understand, BLT 1 Br. sleeps five. It did make a real comfy chair.
IMG_0637.jpg

A new way to do the dining table. Like the way they did this.
IMG_0638.jpg

The kitchen and countertop. I also liked this layout.
IMG_0639.jpg

The view of the courtyard from the room.

The pool

Part of the C
IMG_0655.jpg

The second part of the C. If you look at the rooms the layout from left to right is 1 BR., Studio, Studio, 1 BR. It allows the maximum flexibility for room types. Just put a 1BR. and a Studio together, you have a 2 BR. Not sure if they have any dedicated 2 BRs.

The Top of the World Lounge
IMG_0657.jpg

Laundry room. Yes I did do laundry the first day because I packed some dirty clothes when I threw everything into the suitcase. Don’t judge me you uberpackers at least I actually did do the laundry. Besides, the important part of packing, the snacks, were done with time and loving care.
IMG_0642.jpg

The shower
IMG_0644.jpg

The whirlpool tub. I didn’t do a whirlpool bath this trip because I was a little concerned about getting out. Did not want to embarrass myself calling the front desk to have someone come up to pull me out with me just wearing a towel. Thought about doing a trial run with clothes on but that would only be slightly less embarrassing.
IMG_0645.jpg

The Master bedroom. I slept like a log.
IMG_0647.jpg

The TV and desk in the master bedroom.
IMG_0648.jpg

Master bath sink.
IMG_0649.jpg

The second bathroom. An added convenience in BLT 1Bedrooms.
IMG_0650.jpg

The room was clean and had all the amenities except laundry detergent and a cable for the computer. Bags were quickly delivered. I called the front desk about the missing items. At first she insisted the cable was in the room. I strongly suggested that it was not. I also asked her where the connection is for the internet and she asked me what room I was in. After checking something, she said, “It is in the living room area near the couch.” I told her I didn’t think so but again she insisted. Since she might have been right here, I did not strongly suggest otherwise. I looked around the room again and found this jack that was labeled HSIC on the desk in the Master Bedroom. It took me a while but I figured it out that it meant High Speed Internet Connection. At least I hoped. For all I know it could have meant Hey Stupid this Isn’t a Connection.

It was over an hour and still no cable or detergent. This was the one and only time that BLT let me down a bit. I called back again and they had it to me in about 15 minutes. They even tried to deliver a second cable later that night.

While I was waiting, clothes and snacks were unpacked, picked up some tasty munchies and relaxed on the couch. After the cable came I even took a short nap. Between that I sat out on my balcony to read and enjoy the view. It was about 6:00 and I decided to head to the Top of the World Lounge for a quick look see.

The TOWL is in the North Tower. Took the elevator to the first floor and crossed the lobby. There was a sign directing you to the elevator where a CM will assist you. No one was there and despite my efforts, the elevator was not going anywhere. Back to the front desk, they said someone will assist me shortly. While I was there another group showed up. The CM came and I showed him my ID. The others did not and were not asked. TOWL is supposed to only be for DVC members staying at BLT. I have read conflicting reports on how serious they take this.

The lounge itself is spacious and upscale. There is an outside open area that circles the lounge giving spectacular views. It is a much larger area than the walkway (or whatever you want to call it) at California Grill. I was pretty beat so I ordered a Mozzarella/Tomato Flatbread to go and a club soda. While waiting for the food, I people watched for a while. There were about 10+ kids there and 20 or so adults. Some of the kids were a little noisy but most were well behaved. This is a quick overview. More details tomorrow when I revisit for Wishes viewing.

Took the food back to the room. Here is a picture of the flat bread. It was fairly tasty with lots of flavor. The only complaint was it could have been crisper.
IMG_0659.jpg

After finishing dinner it was time to hit the bed. Played channel flip with the remote and after looking through the limited choices a few times I headed to beauty sleep land.

All in all a good day. Can’t believe I screwed up when I was supposed to arrive. It worked out well for me because I added a day to the trip. I really like the new place. The room was well laid out with some neat twists. The extra bathroom will come in handy for larger groups. I also thought the layout of the dining table is the best of any DVC 1 BR. It would facilitate family meals along with late night card games. The view is pretty good. I could only see part of the lake but a full view of the pool area and courtyard. I spent a lot of time on the balcony.

A good start to my little getaway. I wanted to relax and take a few deep breaths and today foot the bill. Have to love DVC where you don’t feel guilty when you don’t spend all day in a park.

Up Next: Downtown Disney and TOTWL for real

Great pictures of the room. One day I hope to stay there, if I can tear myself away from BCV.

So why is the trash can on the toilet? Did you put it there? We only do that when we need to keep the four legged child out of it.

You should take a train trip with a sleeper. It is a fun way to travel (but not cheap). Take the one across northwest U.S., beautiful views.

A one bedroom ALL TOO YOURSELF? :worship::worship: omg, that would be heaven. And how was this trip all by yourself, did it feel super weird or did you secretly and absolutely love it doing this :yay:the whole time?

So jealous. We'll be there in 6 weeks, but in a studio. Can't wait for more.

April 1st, yes? April fool's joke?

:goodvibes

Good work Kate! :thumbsup2 One day I wish to be as sharp as you.

Gotcha! Lisa, I am so glad it was you to lead the charge.
'

Really? How incredibly sweet and giving of you. :sad2: :rolleyes1

I would have preferred a percocet instead. :flower3: I hear they make two night holidays extend into three. :wizard: Magical.

All those compliments for nothing. The vulnerability is overwhelming me. popcorn::  But at least I had support. Thank God. :thumbsup2

My day started viewing real estate - real estate with the actual owner - male - deciding to stay around for the viewing - in the shower. :rotfl2: - in the shower of the only bathroom. :lmao: :sad2: And ended with your nonsense. :woohoo:

I always get excited as I enter a room for the first time especially the first visit to a resort.

My God, isn't that the truth. That is the truth!!!

Thanks for the reminder. It's easy to forget all the wonderful with the amount of negative comments on this board at times. What a feeling it is to open the door for the first time. Absolutely.

By the way -I was beside *your* GV in December

- in a studio. :sad2:  But what a beautiful studio.

Your pictures are wonderful. I actually stared at the stacked washer and dryer like it was artwork. :3dglasses . I should try that at home. Smiling. I haven't been to BLT yet - well besides the day I played "Alias" and *broke in*. I felt it was just okay. But your photos are very enticing. The one bedrooms look spectacular. I ADORE banquettes. I will give it a try for sure.
