Quick trip to the World and this time I am not nuts

Lovin' this TR!!! We haven't been to BLT yet and to be honest I wasn't quite sure I wanted to until I started reading your report and looking at the pictures.

Today is the first I've had a chance to catch up with your report and to be honest, I was scared for a minute when it seemed you had decided to quit! Obviously it took me a bit longer to catch on! Whew, thank goodness! If I would have read it on April 1st, it would have been the only joke played on me and I do think perhaps the cruelest! I thought I got off easy with this years pranks!

Good work Kate! :thumbsup2 One day I wish to be as sharp as you.

At first I thought CJ might be depressed but then I remembered his weird sense of humor and figured he must be playing a joke. So, not so sharp, just happened to look at the calendar.

Thank you SO much for writing, sharing your trip and your little girl with us.

This is for you.

(Tevye)
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

(Golde)
I don't remember growing older
When did they?

(Tevye)
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?

(Golde)
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

(Men)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

(Women)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

(Tevye)
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?

(Golde)
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day

(Perchik)
They look so natural together

(Hodel)
Just like two newlyweds should be

(Perchik & Hodel)
Is there a canopy in store for me?

(All)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

Oh, "Sunrise, Sunset" is the song we had playing at our wedding when our mothers were seated. They both love/loved that song! :thumbsup2

Yes, thank you you sharing your DD with us. :)

GREAT april fools joke!! When i saw it, i first looked at the date and figured it was. I did good this year and didn't fall for any nonsense and there was alot floating around my family and friends. :lmao:

Love the update and the pics of BLT. So glad you enjoyed your stay there! You are making me homesick.;) We are playing the stay everywhere game right now! I want more points but we have to decide where else we love before we can do that. Great update AND ready for more!popcorn::

Your pics are awesome! Trying to convince DH that it wouldn't be bad to stay there once. He talked me into BWV for next month so we'll see!

Yes, it stunk (would use more descriptive words if this wasn't a family thread). I HATE, HATE, HATE hospitals and doctors. Some of the medications they give you are pretty good though.

Thanks for leaving us nurses out of that sentence! :rotfl:

You must have been a pretty sick pup to not only have been in the hospital for six weeks, but on bedrest for three of those weeks (we usually reserve that kind of treatment for people who are trying to die on us).
Glad to see you are on the mend and back on the DIS...you really did fall off the face of the earth and we were all concerned about you.

Great pictures of the room. One day I hope to stay there, if I can tear myself away from BCV.

Thanks. We usually take what resorts are available when I make the reservations. That is except Saratoga and OKW. They just don’t do anything for me. I love BCV and it was my second favorite behind BWV. BLT replaces that. Our next trip is to Kidani. I did waitlist for BWV and BCV but I don’t think they will come through.

So why is the trash can on the toilet? Did you put it there? We only do that when we need to keep the four legged child out of it.

You should take a train trip with a sleeper. It is a fun way to travel (but not cheap). Take the one across northwest U.S., beautiful views.

No, mousekeeping did it. I guess it was done to replace the towel animal which I did not get. Not sure we will be able to take a train trip for a while. Now working on her Graduation trip. We may try the Disneyland/Hawaii combo. She would love diving in Hawaii. Maybe we could add a few days and take a train when we get back to the West Coast. Something to think about.

A one bedroom ALL TOO YOURSELF? :worship::worship: omg, that would be heaven. And how was this trip all by yourself, did it feel super weird or did you secretly and absolutely love it doing this :yay:the whole time?

So jealous. We'll be there in 6 weeks, but in a studio. Can't wait for more.

I usually get a Studio but since DD was bringing a friend, I wanted a 1BR. In the future, I see myself staying in a 1BR. for the tub and the stretching out space. Hey, it’s only points. It was a little different without the child. I did it once before. I enjoy the peace and serenity of going solo. That was especially true this trip. I needed some me time and this was perfect. I also did not need to worry if I read by the pool or just relaxed in the room that the kid would be bored.

Was it better? No, DD and I always have a good time at the World. She would have liked the room. It was just different and something I need to get used to when she is off the college.

My God, isn't that the truth. That is the truth!!!

Thanks for the reminder. It's easy to forget all the wonderful with the amount of negative comments on this board at times. What a feeling it is to open the door for the first time. Absolutely.

By the way -I was beside *your* GV in December

- in a studio. :sad2:  But what a beautiful studio.

Your pictures are wonderful. I actually stared at the stacked washer and dryer like it was artwork. :3dglasses . I should try that at home. Smiling. I haven't been to BLT yet - well besides the day I played "Alias" and *broke in*. I felt it was just okay. But your photos are very enticing. The one bedrooms look spectacular. I ADORE banquettes. I will give it a try for sure.

Sorry about the travails you experienced real estate shopping. Guy must not want to sell the house quickly.

I really liked BLT. It was a bit of a pain walking to the Contemporary but once I started entering/exiting on the ground floor, it seemed a lot faster. The room layout is really nice and very functional.

Thanks for the comments on the pics. I started to take photography seriously when I was in high school. Took and developed nearly all the pictures for the yearbook. That was back in the stone age when you used film. These were just point and shoot photos. Very little composition involved. It also helps to have a decent camera.

Did you say hello to MY Grand Villa when you were at the Boardwalk? Sorry I missed your TR. It must have been interesting.

Enjoying your TR! Thanks for posting the BLT photos -- great pics!

:sad1: Some of us are nice...

But I agree, there are idiots at every educational level. Just like you never really know if your car mechanic is ripping you off, you never really know if your doctor is incompetent. You can ask around and search on-line, but there's only so far that will take you. I can't tell you how often I call around for friends to check a doctor out for them.

BLT is a great property. I also had a good room location which helped with the view. Spent a lot of time either on the balcony or looking out the window. Not sure if I had a room on the lower floors, I would have enjoyed it as much.

At first I thought CJ might be depressed but then I remembered his weird sense of humor and figured he must be playing a joke. So, not so sharp, just happened to look at the calendar.

Depressed? Not really. Things are good. Of course some days are better than others. Besides they gave me these pretty pills to take. Weird sense of humor? That I the first time someone threw that at me. OK, you may not have been the first. You are still a spoil sport.

Thank you SO much for writing, sharing your trip and your little girl with us.

This is for you.

Thank you so much. When we saw the play, she was probably 9 or 10 and you could see that while still my little girl, it wasn’t go to be long when she morphed into a young woman. The trip reports provide a great conduit to relive those experiences.

Oh, "Sunrise, Sunset" is the song we had playing at our wedding when our mothers were seated. They both love/loved that song! :thumbsup2

Yes, thank you you sharing your DD with us. :)

Cool. If and when she does walk down the aisle (at least few years away), I am sure it will take all my self-control not to become a blithering idiot. She will be forbidden to play that song because I will completely lose it.

I can tell you know good humor when you see it. I play the stay everywhere game for most trips. Kind of missing BWV, my home resort and my favorite. Each has its own uniqueness that I enjoy. One of the reasons why I like DVC.

More will be coming soon. Hopefully tomorrow but more probably Thursday.

Your pics are awesome! Trying to convince DH that it wouldn't be bad to stay there once. He talked me into BWV for next month so we'll see!

You are too kind. Don’t badmouth BWV or you may be exiled to Universal. Here is to you having a great trip and talking hubby into staying at BLT.

Thanks for leaving us nurses out of that sentence! :rotfl:

With one exception, the nurses were fantastic. They really took care of me. They also took DD under their wing and let her know what was going on and calmed her fears. DisDadDoc, my phobia about doctors stems from my childhood years. Long story which I won’t go into here. Nothing personal, I just don’t like medical settings. The doctors from the hospital were also great. My lead doctor assembled a team of specialists (many were department heads) to take care of my medical needs. Not only did they provide their expertize, they were very compassionate and I felt they were determined to get me better.

The same could be said of the other staff. I was losing a lot of weight and the head dietician stopped by on numerous occasions to check up on me. She stressed that if it fit the dietary restrictions (mostly low salt), I could order anything. If I wanted a cheeseburger or pizza, no problem. I mentioned I liked ice cream and would kill for a vanilla shake. From then on, every lunch and dinner, I had a milkshake and Ice cream for a snack at night.

I made sure the higher ups knew about the care I received.

Yes, I was a pretty sick pup for a while. I was on bed rest because they wanted the infection to get under control and my blood pressure was really low. They later determined that is close to the norm for me. My doctor, the head of physical therapy and I had a big fight over letting me out of bed. They were on the phone and I strongly suggested to them I needed to move around. It got pretty heated and a bunch of the nurses/aids were in my room getting a firsthand account. Many had a look of horror on their faces.

Needless to say, I was a pain at times but they loved my smart a** attitude. I scared them a few times but I never felt it was going to beat me. I am not back to full strength and it may take longer than I thought but things are better. My new physician is a great guy and he is monitoring me carefully. The main thing he is worried about is my kidneys. While in the hospital they said I was close to renal failure and they were going to put me on dialysis. Luckily they started functioning better.

DDC, if I remember right, you deal with kids. I was a fundraising consultant to a hospital’s pediatric blood and cancer department. I developed close relationships with the unit’s doctors and nurses. There is no way I could do what you and they do.

Sorry about the long winded non trip report medical recap but a few people sent me PMs asking for more details so I decided to respond here. No more medical talk from here on out.

I also want to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes. They are appreciated. Nothing like the people on the Dis.

Enjoying your TR! Thanks for posting the BLT photos -- great pics!

Kristen

Thanks for joining me for the ride.

Thanks for sharing with us. Disboards "friends" are still friends in every sense of the word except often they have not physically met. And friends care about and want to know what is happening in each others lives.

OK, enough of being serious, time for you to get back to entertaining us. I have nine more weeks of school and I need a diversion!!! MINE MINE MINE, me me me . Do I sound narcissistic or what?

Being a nurse practitioner, I feel ya! got stuck in the 'pital myself a few weeks ago and even though it was only 4 days, it stunk! glad you're on the mend. Please don't exile me to Universal...I'll be good...I promise! My only complaint is that there is no CS to get my beloved Mickey waffles at BWV so I'm a little bummed about that, but we are hopefully heading back home in Dec so I'll make sure we stay somewhere where I can pig out on my waffles!

Day 2 Part 1 Monday, March 14: Downtown Disney and the Earl of Sandwich.

Got a great night’s sleep and slept in a little later than normal. It was after 9:00 before I rolled out of bed. Some breakfast type snacks to start off the day and some seltzer. Eventually made my way to valet to pick up the car and get directions to Publix. Don’t ask me how to get there, I have no idea but I ended up in the right place. Bought some fruit and tea. I got really ambitious and picked up hamburger, rolls, and potato salad because I was going to make dinner in the room. Sanity finally prevailed and those items were put back. What was I thinking?

Groceries in the car I headed to Downtown Disney. My quest was the Earl of Sandwich.

The most magical sign on Earth.

The entrance near where I parked. I entered in Lot 1 and instead of following the crowd to the left, I took a right and found a good spot.
IMG_0665.jpg

First stop was Ghirardelli. The sample they were handing out was a milk chocolate thing with caramel inside. Not a big chocolate fan but this was really good. So good, I bought a sampler pack for DD’s WDW gift. I thought maybe I could talk her out of a piece or two. It worked when I got home.

Trend D. I didn’t stop in but will let DD roam around on our next trip.
IMG_0671.jpg

Some other pictures did not come out because of formatting errors. This was a recurring theme throughout the trip. The temp Lego store looks interesting. A big yellow tube. Made it to Earl’s place only to find it crowded. So what else is new? The line went quickly and I was soon searching for an open table.

I had the Original: Fresh roasted beef, cheddar and creamy horseradish sauce (I think $5.99) and a coke. While they do not take the TIW card, they do give 10% off for AAA members. You just have to show your card to the cashier. Half the sandwich was eaten and I refilled my half empty coke. If that is illegal, turn me in. Needless to say, the food was tasty and at a very reasonable price. Love their bread.

Back to the car and the resort. Pulled into valet. I decided to suck it up and pay the extra for valet because I thought it would mean less walking. I later looked at the BLT lot and found spaces that were by far a shorter walking distance from the lot to the entrance than going up to the 4th floor, walking to the walkway, down the linking corridor and to the room. Will not valet again, even if it was free.

As I passed bell services carrying two moderately heavy bags of groceries, I asked if someone could take them to the room for me. No problem. We walked to the BLT lobby which was quicker than using the corridor. He was a great CM and we had a nice chat.

Back to the room and some TV scanning. While sitting out on the balcony admiring a gorgeous day, decided to change into my trunks and head to the pool. I visited the Contemporary pool on a previous trip when DD, 1 and I were trying to rent water sprites. Talk about a dead and boring area. The BLT pool is much better themed and a fair amount of people were taking advantage of the sunny skies.

A nice bocce ball court. We used to play for hours when the family got together at my parents’ house. There is a shuffleboard set up on the opposite side of the courtyard.

IMG_0690.jpg

I grabbed a table in some shade near the bar and ordered a drink. The meds prevent me from imbibing in adult beverages (I know the horror of it all) so I came up with my own faux cocktail. It is ¾ club soda, ¼ sprite and a couple of splashes of cranberry juice. It is a little embarrassing ordering it but I really don’t care. The bartender was friendly and efficient as she filled drink orders and I was soon sitting at my table sipping my cocktail and reading a book.

Things were going along nicely until these two little monsters decided they wanted to play ping pong. Unfortunately, the table was near the area I was sitting. Having all the grace and athletic ability of pre-teens that spend too much time playing video games, they soon got bored with their inability to actually play the game. They then decided to play smash the ball as hard as you can. One of their many misfires bounced where I was sitting and I calmly flicked the ball with my toe toward them. All the time I was giving them the “stare.”

For those that don’t know I use the stare to intimidate DD’s male friends. It works like a charm. One time when I picked her up at school one, of her friends said to her he wanted to meet me. She suggested strongly that he didn’t but the brave little soul came to my window anyway. He was pleasant enough but the stare made him cower away in fear. I truly believe that only Italian males can properly do it. It must be in our genetic makeup.

I digress, so back to the pool. I saw that the ball had a notable depression on one side. Some of you may wrongly suggest it happened when I pushed the ball over to them. I swear I didn’t do it. Really I didn’t. It must have happened when it hit the leg of the table. There were replacements in a sleeve by the table so they got a new one. You could tell their hearts were not into it anymore and they soon put the paddles down and left.

As I mentioned it was a beautiful sunny day and I was rather enjoying myself. My cocktail finished, I went to the bar and had it refilled. There wasn’t really much on the menu so I asked the bartender what kind of ice cream they had. She went through the list and I settled on…
IMG_0696.jpg

I used to watch my sweets intake but now I indulge myself whenever I want. It had been years since I had one of these. I thought it was OK. The chocolate was a little rich for me but you can bet that I ate all of it.

Read some more and relaxed. After a while I got bored so I headed back to the room.

Back at the room, I brewed some iced tea. One word of note: The pitcher they stock was a little dinky thing. I made the tea extra strong and cut it with seltzer for each glass. Stretched it out a little bit before I had to make another pot and the seltzer gave it a little fizz.

The rest of the day was spent lounging around reading, a little TV, finishing the leftovers, nap… Almost out of picture space so the next installment will be about the Top of the World Lounge.

So, not so sharp, just happened to look at the calendar.

Sharp. :3dglasses

Did you say hello to MY Grand Villa when you were at the Boardwalk? Sorry I missed your TR. .

Well I tried. It had many different occupants over my stay. :confused3 And some of them weren't that friendly. popcorn:: And I'm an introvert so hmmm on them. :lmao: Those big point DVCers are just so darn rude.

The TR - I was lucky. I had some great and interesting DISers who held on for me and made it so much easier to get through.

OK, you can stay. The biggest negative about BWV is the lack of a counter service place. There are probably good options for Mickey waffles at the Beach/Yacht Club. Next time I stay there, I may hit some of the dining options at Swan/Dolphin.

Day 2 Part 2 Monday, March 14: Fireworks at the TOTWL

At about 7:00 I headed over to the TOWL for something to eat and watch Wishes. Again no one at the dedicated elevator so I returned to the lobby. There were about 4 CMs standing around the desk telling war stories and having a good time. I was going to join in but thought better of it. I explained to the woman behind the desk I wanted to go to the Lounge. She asked for my resort ID. The guy that let me in last night was there and aid to her, he knew I was a guest and that he would take me up.

In a previous post I mentioned the place is somewhat upscale. The chairs and couches were well upholstered and confortable. Off to the left there is a small room that offers a little more privacy for a larger party. It is more like an alcove. I took a seat and after a few minutes the waitress came by. There were three CMs up there working, the bartender, the waitress, and someone that looked like the manager. The crowds were good for a Disney bar, about 35-40 people. Less kids running around than last night. The place is pretty big so it didn’t feel crowded at all.

The menu choices are very limited. I don’t remember exactly what they had but there were a few flat breads including the mozzarella/tomato, steak and maybe a seafood. There were also a couple of crab/seafood appetizers. I order the mozzarella flat bread and my club soda/sprite/cranberry cocktail. Things were running efficiently because the food and drink arrived after a few minutes.

Right before Wishes, they go around and turn down the lights signaling to the guests that Showtime is about to start.

Outside looking at space and the castle. It was very breezy both nights I was up there and a little chilly. There is plenty of space to accommodate patrons that want to view wishes. Cameras were out all around me and one guy even brought a tripod.

They pipe in the audio from the show which you can hear somewhat clearly over the oohs and aahs of the people around you. Wishes is my all-time favorite fireworks show. The first time I saw it with DD, I got a little misty eyed.

So my thoughts on the Lounge. Fantastic setting and a relaxing place to down cocktails and appetizers. I wish there were more food choices but as I understand it, they really don’t have a full kitchen. Very much one of Disney’s Best Kept Secrets (get the tie in to their marketing program?). I really don’t think it will remain a DVC only area after they sell out the resort. It is a great selling point to new members but an underutilized space. I fear the next time I go there, I will be in one of my “I remember when this was special” diatribes.

If you have the opportunity to go, and are staying at BLT on points, I would do it. Nice way to wind down from a busy day. When I was there, they were open from 5 to midnight.

I was getting around pretty well so I thought about my skip the parks this trip philosophy. They were calling me out to visit them. After leaving the lounge, I went to the Contemporary lobby to look at ticket options. The person I talked to at the desk said no one there is authorized to sell ticket media and I would need to come back in the morning. What? I want to give Disney more of my money and they won’t take it? Oh well. I took it as an omen that I was destined not to visit a park this trip.

Another good day. Did a few things, got a little sun and enjoyed the room. Next up is my last day at the World.

Yes, I think it will become one of the "I remember when...". Most definitely right around the sell out. It just doesn't make sense besides as a selling point. I simply don't understand why it can't be open to all DVC members. :rotfl2: OMG, do you hear that? Do they have their torches those BLTers? Do not tell them I broke into their fortress - I should have told them on one of their "non BLTers in the house" thread. :3dglasses

Anyway, I am not into exclusivity for buildings/land at all. I don't like the card/security deal at BLT. And it's not because I want in and don't own there. ;) I own at SSR as well as BWV and I cringe when some suggest carding the SSR pool areas and doing some card system on those buses. I'm the kind of person who doesn't mind some problems for ease/freedom. HOWEVER, - so smiling at my hypocrite ways - I do think DVC members access would help the get the crowds up but not have it be too crowded.

Sounds like a very lovely trip CJ. Different for you of course - but lovely nonetheless.

Day 2 Part 2 Monday, March 14: Fireworks at the TOTWL
