OK, we are staying at OKW 8/22-28. This will be our first DVC stay (five of us - Me, DH, DS, DM, DF). We are considering possibly extending our stay a few days until 8/31 (trying another DVC resort) depending on how the weather is and how everyone feels at that time. However, we would need to borrow points from 2005 to do this so I am hesitant to make a reservation now. I guess what I'm asking is:

1) Has anyone ever extended their DVC stay (possibly moving to another resort) while on-site. Can you do this right at the check-in counter or did you need to call MS? I understand we will be taking a chance with possibly no availability (even if I called now).

2) Has anyone ever done this on borrowed points (from next year's allotment)? I understand that once these points are borrowed they cannot be put back, but would need to be used this year if for some reason we cancelled?

3) Another possible option (if we were Orlando'd-out) would be attempting to book 3 nights (8/28-31) at HHI so we could stop on our drive back to NJ. However, I am doubtful we could even get a 2BR or 2 studios there if I called now. Does anyone know how busy HHI is at the end of August (but prior to Labor Day weekend). Do I stand a chance at this late date?

I'm just nervous about "borrowing" points from next year, and being new to this am looking for some expert advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should be nervous about borrowing points. ;) Seriously, Member Services will remind you that borrowing is a final transaction, the points must be used by the end of the Use Year, cannot be banked, blah, blah, blah. So do give it careful consideration before you move forward.

It sounds like you have a really sound plan in mind.

If you decide to extend your stay, you do need to contact Member Services to do it. The resorts aren't equipped to tap into point inventories, borrowing, etc. Just use the '800' number and call right from your resort room. MS will get you all set...pending availability, of course.

Can't answer your question about HHI, but I'm sure someone will!!!

Thanks, tjkraz, for your reply and "warning" ::yes:: regarding "borrowing". At this point I'm only going to borrow if there is any availability at HHI for our trip home as all the guys in our group are so enthused about doing a little fishing to break up the long trip. DF cannot fly as it bothers his ears :earsboy: and he always ends up in agony and has tried all supposed remedies to no avail. So we're all packing into the Suburban for this trip. If we can't get a ressie at this late date we'll either plan on HHI for next summer or bank those points to 2006.

Actually, I think the resorts can do some things without you going through MS. On our first trip using points, we spend a week at Vero Beach, reserving an Inn Room. When we got there, we decided to switch to a Studio which took a few extra points. The front desk made a call and within a few minutes we were given the key to a studio.
