We are taking off from Omaha, Nebraska, on January 30th. Our initial plan is to stop in Illinois the first night, then spend New Year's Eve in Chattanooga, as we head south on I-24. It appears that this route would take us through the mountains in Tenn. and I am a little concerned about that during the winter.

Has anyone driven this or is familiar with this route in Dec / Jan? We will be pulling a 33 ft travel trailer.

Thanks,
Bill

The only bad spot would be Monteagle. Just keep an eye/ear on the weather. They will shut it down during bad storms. There is an alternate route though. They will have signs put up.

Denise is right Monteagle Mountain is the only real trouble spot in TN. Ridgetop just north of Nashville can be a little tricky at the right time of year. TDOT does a good job on these two spots so unless we are getting an unusual amount of snow it shouldn't be a big deal. If we are getting a lot snow, odds are you will have already been driving through it to get here and will know if the roads are troublesome or not.

We drive your route every year from Minnesota. We go between Dec and Feb every year driving a Class A or 5th Wheel. We have never run into any weather in that area that I would be concerned with.

Maybe its because we are from Minnesota but I bet its because I just did not know any better.

Safe travels.
