Question for those that stay in the DVC Villas

There isn't a Wholes Food or a Trader Joe's nearby. Here are links to their websites to find Trader Joe's stores Find a TJ's store

And for Whole Foods Find a WF store

I don't know if you are driving or will have a means of transportation, so I thought these links can help you find either a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods that you would be willing to drive to.

While we won't have a car to come and go as we please, I will have a chance to make a grocery run prior to checking in to VGC. Our son recently moved to Orange County and we are staying with him prior to checking in to VGC. I bet if I send him those links, he will know if there is one that we can get to easily.

The only thing we've ever cooked is Eggo's in the toaster. I know part of buying into our timeshares was to save money by cooking, but just seems like we're on vacation and that's the last thing I want to do. I do always have soda in the fridge.

Still wondering if there might be a Trader Joes or Whole Foods near DL. We shop at both of these stores here at home and since they are familiar to me, was hoping to frequent the same stores in Anaheim.

Haven't looked for a WF since we now have one on our island, but we have been to the TJ's in Orange, when we went it was a 15-20 min drive but we got a bit lost. We like to get some of their specialty snacks to bring home as gifts. We only did it once since we found that going to the one near LAX is much easier so if you're flying into there I think it might be the Torrance? location, but its really just a couple of blocks from the airport (we often stay at the airport hotels on the way in and out so its very convenient to them too).

Wait, I think I remember you said that your son lived in RSM, south Orange County...yes? no? If he does, he lives near a TJ and will pass several other TJ on the way. And there is a Whole Foods on the way also. The closest WF and TJ to DLR is 5 to 6 miles, but not an easy drive at all.

Buying DVC was never about saving money for us. It was always about nicer (actually bigger) accommmodations and not stepping ontop of one another in a regular hotel room. And having a washer and dryer. I would kill to have a washer and dryer in a studio.

We usually stay in 1-bedrooms with just the two of us, but don't cook that often, but it sure is nice having the full-sized fridge and extra counter space for all the snacks, etc. we do bring, and I do like having the bowls, etc. and a dishwasher.

When we are there this May, the parks won't open until 10:00 a.m. and will close at 8:00, so there will be enough time to do some nutritious breakfasts on this trip, if nothing else.

I have to admit that the first few stays, we did not use the stove. We ate out every meal. We pretty much only used the oven to reheat any pizza slices we brought back from from Napolini and we stocked the cabinets and fridge purely with mixers and some other refreshments. Now, we definitely make use of the kitchen. We cook pasta, spaghetti, breakfast fare, and DH wants to cook a brisket next time. They do not have non stick cookware, so I would recommend bringing some if you are planning on doing a lot of cooking. Also, remember to bring salt and other seasonings, oils, etc. We always have a car so we drive to the grocery store. I think it's called FoodCo or Foodmax. I can't remember now. A lot of people recommend Von's delivery. We tried to use their services before, but we didn't make plans in advance so the delivery option was not available to us because we waited until right before we arrived to try to place out order.

While cooking on vacation seems a bit outrageous (after all you are on vacation), I like cooking in a DVC room. I have cooked in our room several times at OKW (we have our food delivered) and every time at GCH (we bring our food). We also bake cookies, as a PP mentioned. To me, The smells of dinner and of cookies makes it feel like GHC is my home.

Brisket, huh? That sounds good!

You are so right, and we will be in RSM for the weekend prior to checking into VGC, and perhaps we can get our shopping done before heading over. Just not sure how much room there might be in DSs refrigerator.

We always cook breakfast at least in the villa and often do either lunch or dinner so that we only end up going out for a meal once a day. It's less about thrift than it is about good food since my husband is an amazing cook. One of our tricks is to bring something frozen solid to use as an ice pack for our cooler (pasta sauce, lasagna, steaks) for the time between we arrive and the time we can get into the villa. The cooler is checked into bell services all that time, but between the refrigerated storage unit and the frozen solid food, we know the food stays fresh.
