Please help. I have a Sigma 30mm 1.4 that I use on my D40. Most of my indoor shots are coming out 'red'. Any ideas on how to fix this? I shoot in Manual with the lens usually wide open.

I think that it is a lighting issue of some sort. I had this problem this summer when photographing a baseball team. Some shots were fine, others came out reddish. As far as I can tell, my problem was a white balance issue with the lights since I think they actually flickered a bit, although it wasn't noticable to the human eye. So, in a nutshell, I have no real idea why your photos are red, but I do know that I have seen that in photos too. This happened with more than just my Sigma 30mm 1.4 though.

That sounds completely like a WB issue and nothing at all to do with the lens. DSLRs are notorious for not picking the correct WB in low light. You can do two things off the top of my head. You could set the WB manually in each situation. That would be the best option for JPG shooters. I would prefer to set it during RAW processing, but that is more time consuming and RAW files are much larger.

Even if you don't normally shoot raw, it's worth taking a few "test" photos in Raw and play with adjusting the white balance after the fact, to make sure that that completely clears up the problem you're seeing.
