Question About Mixology

We did one on the Wonder this past October. The drinks were pre-made, but then a few people got to get up and make the drinks. By the end, there were about 6 people making the big drinks. So much fun. So much tilting afterwards. It was the sea I tell you, the sea! I think it may depend on the group you go with. If everyone is there to have fun, the bartender may feed off of this and allow it. Versus a quieter group, the bartender may just go with what he/she had planned to begin with. We have been to tequila tastings where we were all given a few extra shots to try. That was funny. We also had a cognac tasting where we had some very knowledgeable folks in the group, so the bartender extended the offerings and I was able to try some fancy cognac. Then, we have been to just the standard tastings. It all depends. Still think these are worth the price for what you get, but that is my opinion.

Do you book these mixology classes before hand like you do port adventures or do you sign up once on the ship?

thanks everyone. I think I'll back on on the Magic then and wait until we are on the Dream or Fantasy.

I just got back from the Wonder and found the current tastings, including a private Mixology to be a bit of a let down this year. Long, long lecture style information with quick tasting close to the end. No where near the interactive experiences I had last time. Last year our private Mixology had pre-made drinks, but each cocktail was remade as a demo by a participant and then applying the techniques/flavor info etc. an open table of ingredients and equipment was available to make your own signature cocktail. This time, nothing but lecture.....not even much on the technique or theory behind balancing a cocktail.

The chocolate & liquor and the Tequila class was also very dry and long-feeling. I guess the best comparison for me was the teacher in the Snoopy cartoons (you know - "Wah wah wah wah....") If this had been our 1st time, not sure I'd go again. Next time, I'll gamble on availability and only do one to see how the instructor interacts with the class.
