Question about answering phone call while online (Windows XP)

I have a new computer with Windows XP (my old one was still on '95!).

A couple nights ago, while I was on the DIS - we have dialup - a message box popped up saying I had an incoming phone call and did I want to answer. I just closed the box and disconnected, then the phone rang and I answered it.

My question is, what would have happened had I clicked the box that said "answer incoming call"? Does it keep me online but somehow put it on hold? And do I answer by picking up the actual phone, or by using the microphone on my computer?

I have XP and mine has never done that! How does that work? I would love that feature! I used to pay for a service on my old computer.

I think that is just a new technology with modems (not too up to date on that since I am on cable modem) but I am pretty positive that if you say you wanted to answer the call, it would disconnect you. There would be no way to put you on hold. My guess is that if you said "no" though it would know to ignore the incoming call and not try to disconnect you from the internet. I hope that helped.

I have a one yr old Dell with XP. We too use dial-up modem. I don't know of any such feature in XP that is doing this for you.

I would LOVE to know however, because I still pay Pagoo.com $ every month to hear incoming calls (phone messages) while I'm online. I can then decide if I want to disconnect (loosing my place on the web) and call the people back.

My dad however, has something he purchased (a box) so he can answer call -- not loosing place on web (but disconnecting I think). He is not on XP.
