@Snowysmom I had to read your post twice. 60K for car maintenance? Can I be nosy and ask what kind of maintenance costs more than what you could buy a new car for?

@PollyannaMom I know how you feel about your pool. When I used to have one, closing it up always meant the end of summer. But it also meant I didn't have to keep it clean and vacuumed, so one less thing to do!

Sunny and 86 today. I already closed up and put the ac back on. I wished I had done it yesterday but by the time it was 82 in here, it was too late in the day to bother.

I did so much yesterday that I could barely move. Stripped and remade the bed, dusted and vacuumed the whole house. Took down the birdbath out front and the solar flowers, put up all of my Fall decorations. Door mats, garden flags, door decorations, metal yard art signs, etc. I decided that needed to be done before vacation in 1 1/2 weeks, and before I finished fall cleaning.

I just went out and cut back the crepe myrtles that were so high they were blocking the view out of my bedroom windows. I cut back the ornamental grass on the side and straightened out the little fence that the grass had grown through. The cats will be a little lost, they liked to hide in that grass because it was cool and they were hidden, but it will grow back in the spring.

Summer texted me and made me laugh. She bought Gracie a bed frame, headboard and footboard on Amazon. She got a notice that the post office tried to deliver it yesterday but 'the mail box was full'. Really, they were going to try and put boxes that size in a mailbox? It should have been delivered to her front porch. Now she has to wait until tomorrow and go to the post office and pick it up herself and file a complaint. Her carrier is just plain lazy is the problem.

I'm done with chores for the day, no fall cleaning until tomorrow. Going to put a chuck roast in the crock pot for dinner so that will be taken care of.

Have a good day everyone

I assumed she meant the 60 thousand mile mark on the odometer - which probably means replacing a bunch of filters, pads, etc. - so more expensive than the usual oil change, but not $60K in dollars.

Judique Kenny found a plumber who has his own business, not a big company. He was quoted $4400. The plumber said the town changed pipe regulations since the hot water heater was first installed 10 years ago so he has to change out some pipes too. More reasonable for sure.

Mona Again, I agree with Lynn. You and your Dad need to get the floors replaced and then you need to get home. You will be more relaxed and not have to deal with so many negative issues. That alone will make you feel better!

Good morning. It is 60 now with temps heading to the upper 70s. Car maintenance is done for another 6 months. Next time is the big one, 60K, and it is the most expensive. I will have to start saving my pennies. I went to Luke's soccer game and it was fun. I love watching the kids play soccer. They are so determined. I have all our LL passes done but want to try to get Jeff on Slinky with us. No luck yet but I keep trying to get lucky with it and get the same or similar time. If not, he rode it twice last month and we have talked about getting on it later in the evening when the line is shorter. I have my clothes done for the trip. I am that crazy person who needs to know what I will be wearing each day. I can just put it out the night before and ready to go after my shower. My NH friend will be arriving here in a bit. Looking forward to a nice chat and coffee.

Have a good Sunday.
My water heater was more than 15 years old and did not comply with new regulations either. Here (in my county) it needs a thermal expansion tank which allows the water to enter it rather than overflowing or bursting. I now have one and it fits above the new heater. It is a safety thing. Mine also needed all new copper piping. You can't win the price going up thing, that's for sure.

Meanwhile I'm housecleaning and also have more workers coming Tuesday morning. In my house, if anyone is coming to work, I always have to rearrange stuff so they can actually work. For water heater I made a wide open area for them to get the old one out and bring the new one in. Otherwise sometimes when the workers move stuff, stuff gets dinged.

So after all that, I wanted to clear out some things. Everything is a memory when I get started, but I did pretty well today. Got a good sized box full of things. Corralled toys that can go to Son's house plus some of his stuff. His high school diploma, yearbook, pictures and other things he doesn't know he wants so I will just bring it over next time I go. If I tell him he will say 'toss it'. No. You sort it and toss it, lol.

DD is making stuffed peppers for dinner. I ate lunch late and had too much food so feel stuffed. Andrews has had 'air show' going on since Thursday (practice flights) and then the crowds go on base Friday through today.

I hear the jets and can see them also as they fly over. Thunderbirds are the stars of today's show. No desire to travel on base as it's just too crowded. The news last evening said it was a hurry up and wait to get parking and get to the flightline to see the shows.

Some people waited as long as three hours. There are airshows almost every year but this year seems to be drawing more interest than usual. I've gone to Ocean City and caught airshows a couple of times. Much less chaotic and a better view over the water, plus staying at the Hyatt I've had a front row seat instead of paying for the roped off sandy spot. And of course, as a former military wife, I've been up close and personal with countless air shows since the late 70ties.

Yes it is the 60K mile checkup. The cost is $1000 which is still high but since I drive the highway alot for an hour or more I want my car to be in tip top shape.

I won't pay them those prices. The maintenance book has a list in it and I go through it and mark off what I'm not sure of.

I change some things myself such as the cabin air filter. It's accessed through the glove box in my car. Lift the latch, pull out the dirty one, put in the clean one. I also do my engine air filter. Sometimes it's a tab, or maybe one screw. Easy peasy. Not looking at the list to remember what's on the 60K, but no one is getting a grand from me for some of this stuff. Air filters are not cheap and then they add $20 to $30 just for the install.

I certainly agree with keeping your car in tip top condition. I drive back and forth to Florida and don't want to be calling AAA from the side of the road. So some things I do pay for, others I'll get my hands dirty (or put on gloves). And this reminds me I need an oil change. They always get to do that, now that I'm older although I do know how to do it and have done it when I was young and poor(er). May also be time to check your tires if you haven't already replaced them. Belts (fraying or cuts) and hoses (leaks) are easy to check if you can see them - some newer cars you can't get a good look because there is so much stuff in there.

Judique Great car advice. Kenny already does some car things for me so I do save with those. I have the dealer take those off the list. I got new tires on the car after 3 years as the original ones are never as good as what I want. Chris researched tires like crazy and told me the brand he was looking at getting so I got those.

Good morning. It is 55 now with temps heading to the mid to upper 70s. Getting excited about the trip and a bit anxious which for me is normal. I keep trying to get Jeff a Slinky LL pass but nothing comes up for the time the rest of us have. Ethan won't go on it so I think Jeff will be Ethan for a bit. Jeff just needs to be at Studios by 1 pm which he should be. I had a great visit with my NH friend yesterday. We went out to lunch. I have been feeling off lately and my emotions are all over the place. She very astutely recognized that it is September and Chris passed at the end of Sept. I knew that date was coming up I just didn't realize how the month affects me. Now I am trying to accept it and be with it and recognize when it is affecting me. That helps a bit.

Off to work. Only 2 days work this week and then vacay. So glad about that. Have a good day.

Good morning. 53 now going to 83, at least it won't be the 90 we got to yesterday. I was glad I put the air on early in the morning. Today windows are open again and the air feels nice.

I did next to nothing yesterday and was still tired when I went to bed. My back feels better, now if my legs and feet would stop feeling achy I'd be good. Going to do some light fall cleaning. I'll do the master bath, it's not a large room and won't take me long. Then I only have the dining room and living room left to do. I can get those done by the end of the week, taking a days break in between.

Have a good day everyone

My back had a bit of a problem at the Ophthalmologist today. "Put your chin here', which meant leaning forward and sort of twisting my back slightly. I did speak up and we adjusted as best we could. Back home my back felt not great but no where near the problems from July and August. I'm very reluctant to move in such a way that the pain returns.

Anyway, one of the things that I was able to connect during my 'pain' period was that my foot pain connects to my back pain. Even when my back is relaxed and feeling fine, I was getting a darting pain down into my foot which was definitely more pronounced. And sometimes my largest toe would feel like it was constricting. Doc said this is probably Sciatica.

Anyway he suggested I take some over the counter supplements. One is B12 complex vitamins and the other is Alpha lipoic Acid. B12 is in a lot of compounds and multivitamins. The Alpha Lipoic Acid was not as easy to figure out. I found it on Amazon 90 pills, 100 grams for $11.79 -365 Whole Foods Market. I think it's working as the foot issues have receded. Not gone but not bothering me. I did have this before my back acted up but it was a background issue for me.

My doctor sort of took me backwards in the process. He did not recommend any 'name brand' stuff, just the compounds that I needed.

Eventually I figured out that the branded, over the counter 'Nervive' which advertises itself as for Nerve Health is composed of the vitamin B12 and B6 and other B complex vitamins plus Alpha Lipoic Acid, but it's maybe 3 times more expensive than what I'm doing.

Not telling you to try what I'm doing but asking your GP on a visit may give you some guidance for foot relief if it is nerve related as mine appears to be.

Edit to add: my left foot gets the pain, right foot is fine so far.

Judique Thanks for the info about the supplements. Glad they are working for you.

Lynn I hope you do get some relaxation time in between all the housework.

Mona Thinking of you and hope things are better.

Good morning. It is 55 now with temps heading to the mid 70s. Yesterday I walked at the lake. On my way back down the path a big black snake slithered across the path right in front of me. I was so startled and grossed out. I hate snakes, not just dislike. It stopped so I made a sudden move towards it and it slithered away. Now I am very watchful. I looked it up online and it appears to be a black water snake. I am getting ready for my get away. All packed except clothes and I will do that later. Confirmed my ride to and from the airport here and to the resort.

Off to work. Have a great day.

Yikes, @Snowysmom! I'm OK with snakes in what I'd call a controlled environment - like those shows at the library where an expert brings one that's not venomous. But a random one on a walking trail would freak me out as well.

Good morning. I'm not okay with snakes, in any way, shape, or form. One year we went camping and I went to go into the restrooms, and one slithered in front of me going in the door. That was enough of camping for me and I never went again. Our neighbor had a big black one slithering up the sides of their lattice worked portico on the side of their house. I screamed and Don came running to see what was wrong. He went out with a shovel and killed it.

Going to be partly cloudy and 78 today. I've been up since 6 and gotten the normal morning chores out of the way. Took the trash down, made my grocery list and started cleaning the dining room. Not much in there that needs to be cleaned, so that room will be done today. I'll do the living room on Thursday and clean the carpets on Friday. Then I can concentrate on finishing up my packing and making sure the cats will have everything they need while I'm gone. My neighbor (the good one) is going to take care of them, watch the house, and take the mail in for me.

Have a good day

Home from my trip. We had a good time. Very hot and humid with lots of rain, but we were prepared. Kept a small umbrella in my purse (which kept setting off the metal detectors until I figured out how to take it out first) and that was all that was needed, it was too hot for a rain poncho even though we had them with us. I’d also bought a hat that you can wet and put on your head which I liked a lot, it cooled me down. It didn’t mess up my hair as there’s not much to mess up. (Normally that would be an issue for me, lol.) Epcot (on my bday) was probably the hottest time but the hat helped and of course a Kaki Gori in the shade as we got over by Japan cooled us down nicely. When we were leaving Sunday afternoon it read 96 in the car.

Enjoyed MNSSHP and family time around the resort. We had a 1BR unit w full kitchen and washer dryer so that was great, we got to cook some meals and keep up with laundry. I got to rest one day while they went over to Epic Universe. The kids had a lot of fun. Was a little disappointed in some of the meals we got, one was almost inedible and the other so salty it made my surgery arm swell. But we collect gift cards all year so it didn’t feel as painful as paying cash for lousy food. I like to go to tried and true places but sometimes it doesn’t always work out. I hope everyone here is well. I’m still resting and unpacking, and have some upcoming doctor’s appts, but glad I got to go as I wasn’t sure I would. 🐥
