Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Happy Wednesday. Thinking of everyone who needs some prayers and thoughts. I am a bit edgy and anxious today so trying to take it as easy as I can.

My potato salad is very basic: potatoes, mayo, chopped onion, and paprika.

I have had one covid test. Older DS wanted us to test last summer before we all went to NH and stayed together at a condo. I did not like the swab up my nose. It felt like they were heading for my brain. It was negative so he was happy. He got tested too as well as DDIL. They are both in health care so got tested alot.

I am so sad about the world situation. It is a nightmare. I want to keep informed without out overdoing it so I try to limit my news viewing.

Covid Testing:
I've had 2 - the first one was soon after the whole world came crashing down and I had to go thru the health dept. to get it scheduled. I can STILL feel it, it was worse just about anything. Second test was the much more manageable and less invasive nasal swab. That was ??? last summer I think. Had to make an appt. for that one, too.

Potato Salad - I'm another who likes it but doesn't make it. I buy it at the deli or enjoy it when others bring it to a cookout. DH is diabetic, so it's not something I would make often anyway.

Covid tests - I'm scared to type this because I don't want to jinx myself, but I have not had to have one yet. DS is our family expert - a couple of times to go back to school and a couple because of possible exposures, thankfully all negative. DH has had two, both prior to medical procedures and also both negative.

So relieved you are safe, Lynn! Praying for your Carol and Easyas along with anyone else, of course, in the path of impending weather danger--so scary!

Praise God for healthy babies, B&B. to you, my friend. I can't imagine how hard it would be to not be able to go welcome a new baby in person right now.

Prayers all-around continuing for a kinder more compassionate world and, always, for this pandemic to be over!

Much love to all of you. Have a good night :)

Hello to All.
Just a quick pop in to say hello.
The lemonade stand went well overall. It was really hot today and one of my kids had too much heat and not enough water, so had to head to grandma's before it was all over. My niece came over and helped with the stand, which was a huge blessing to my mom and myself.
After we had taken out what we are donating to the local animal shelter and split it up between the kids they each had a nice little "chunk" to put in their piggy banks. Bonus, there were rice Krispie treats left over so I got to bring some home.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Prayers and hugs to all who need them. I'm sorry for all of those who are feeling down or on edge. I've shared before that I'm struggling with school starting Monday. I think everyone just needs a major reset. Just all gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other. And, it's not all doom and gloom for sure, plenty to be thankful for, I just need to remind myself of that.

Super late but wanted pop on tonight to share....598165

My niece watching the fireworks at Disneyland on Tuesday night. :lovestruc I had such a fun time the last couple days at Disneyland and California Adventure with my family so grateful they invited me up join them on their last minute trip. I end up staying both nights instead of driving home each not....DD was able to get two friends to watch the dogs for me.

Saw a couple ducks walking around while we ate dinner at Disneyland Tuesday night, I tried to take a picture to share with the Quacker family but my phone battery was too low for pics and I had forgot my charging cable back in the room. Hope everyone has a great Thursday.

I'll be back to catch up later. :grouphug:

Good morning all. This will be brief, have to get at least another hour sleep, before getting Mr L ready for his ortho appt. Had to call and remind stepdaughter last nite at 9:30 after leaving multiple messages, reminding her she is taking us today. She was just making dinner..at 9:30 at night? She will be here around 8:40. Gotta get him down the steps and into the car, drive over (just a few min from here) give him time to catch his breath and make the 9:15 appt.

Muggy and 73 out, going to be sunny and 83 later.

Have a nice morning,,back later on to check in

Working from home today :) . Went to my weight doctor appointment bright and early this morning. I had weight loss surgery 2 years ago and I've started to gain some back so I wanted to check in with him and back on track so I can loss as much as I can before my son's wedding in December. He put me on an 1800 calorie diet and I will be decreasing that by 300 calories every 2 weeks until I get to 1200 calories, where I should be. Fingers crossed that I can do this. I think with having a goal to reach (the wedding), I will be more likely to stick with it. I just needed that little bit of help to get back on track.
We're finally getting some rain!!!! My yard is very grateful.
Regarding the QOTD: I don't have a potato salad recipe, I don't like potato salad, more of a macaroni salad girl. My dad loved German potato salad.
As for the COVID test, I had to take one for work back in March, 2020 and that was the only one I've taken.
Guess I'll get back to work. Hope everyone has a good day!

Whew-- all of our watches and warnings are gone..flood watch gone, tornado watch and warning gone, no more chance of rain, and the temp is 82

We had a bit of rain around 6:45ish, but that is about it. Actually watched a bad bit of the storm on the TV radar head directly over a WWTP we recently finished and still are in the warranty period for - up Breezy Carol's way. Luckily although they thought it might get a tornado, it didn't and the plant (and surrounding properties) didn't sustain any damage.
I actually wish we would have gotten more rain, although I think we will tomorrow & this weekend. I'm kinda glad it's not rainign today since the youngest & his girlfriend have the rare day off at the same time and are going to Rehoboth Beach for the day. She's a teacher, so I'm guessing she is trying to get in a day of relaxing before the onslaught. Can't say I blame her...

The lemonade stand went well overall.

Oh, that's good! Hope they had fun.

That photo is great! Glad you had fun.

Good luck to him today, hope his xrays don't have much to say.

I'm happy as punch. I just rescheduled our trip from next Dec. 2022 to this coming March. Neither of us can wait to go to and are MORE than ready to get going again. Of course, we already had a 4 night trip to WDW at the beg. of Feb. on the books and I have a work trip later in Feb. and maybe a work trip a week earlier in March, so I've probably really created a bit of a time crunch for myself. Oh well. I'm super thrilled to be traveling abroad again, so I'll make it work. Seriously, it is so nice to have something new & different to look forward to! Can you tell I'm excited?!?!?

But, back to the real world for a bit. I'm on the road this afternoon, and after that meeting I'm headed to Target & the pool place to buy chemicals - of course none of that is close, it is about 90 minutes north of my meeting. But that is how it is around here, nothing is close by. It is at least sorta on the way home and I should be home by 6:30 or 7 PM. Husband is making dinner, but not sure what is on the menu.
I need to pick up a few things at the grocery this evening, too. I don't want to buy to much since we won't be home Saturday or Monday night thru Thursday night. I think I can get by with some rice, eggs and half & half. Maybe something else.

Good Morning everyone ☀

Hug, Frog and so glad the lemonade stand went well! Thank you and your kids for donating some of the profits to the animal shelter 🐶 I remember making a couple reminder announcements, sometimes a day, during church camps to the kids to remember to drink a lot of water--so important and sadly easy to forget even though lol I drink it like a whale 🐋

:tigger:That's great that you and your family had a fun time at DL, AuntieMe3!

🙏that Mr. L's ortho appointment goes very well, dear Lynn. Yikes to dinner after (it sounds like) 9:30pm!

:cheer2: Footballmouse!

Easyas, so glad you are safe. Continued prayers for you, Carol! I hope to see you check in later! Hooray for the fun of planned trips, Easyas! ::MickeyMo

Dad is off on some errands this morning including to Michaels where I hope they will be able to cut the chain off the suncatcher Cross and replace it with a pink ribbon :) I shall report back later. He's also getting my car badly needed wash!

:grouphug:to all!

Good morning.

No scary weather here, but did get some wind and rain. Watched the tornado warning for North East (a town to the west of us) but it didn't come this way.

Getting lots of pictures of DD and family having fun at the ocean. Tessa loves it and every picture makes DH anxious for her safety. Today there are riptide warnings there so they went to the sound which is much safer.

I watched the movie CODA on Apple TV yesterday. I really enjoyed it. Three of the main characters are deaf so there is a lot of sign language which means reading a lot of subtitles.

I missed @easyas123 posting this when I posted my question, which was mostly curiosity.

QOTD: What's your go-to potato salad recipe?
My mother's recipe includes boiled and cubed potatoes, grated onion for the juice and flavor, and hard boiled eggs cut up. Add some homemade dressing that she called French - oil, salt, paprika, vinegar and a little sugar. Add the dressing to the potatoes to let the flavors meld then add mayonnaise before serving. This is always better the second day. I would eat leftovers for breakfast as a child. It is an orangy/yellow color, not white.
For the one similar to MIL's, I use the Creamy Potato Salad recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. It's potatoes, celery, onion, pickle relish, hard cooked eggs and a dressing of mayonnaise, sugar, celery seed, vinegar, mustard, and salt.

Now I want potato salad.

Dinner last night was my easy Mexican rice, canned tomato, fish recipe. I have plenty of the rice/tomato mixture left for dinner tonight with grilled chicken.

I hope Mr L's appt goes well.

Ortho visit went well. They did an xray (gee..took them 2 minutes to do the xray and less than 5 to read it..when it took the hospital 2 days to do the same?) and its healing. Said it may take another month to heal completely. He can now put 20 lbs of weight on it,,and they gave him a soft brace to wear for comfort...but said it might not do much,,that they should have put one on in the hospital 5 weeks ago (iimagine that..something else that the high level care unit said wasn't needed!).

We got him down the step and into the car fine,,out of the car fine at the sports medicine place where this Dr is (who is extremely good looking btw!)..and got him home and out of the car. Then ran into a lot of trouble trying to get him up the step. He could get one leg up, but not the other..and neither Summer or I were strong enough to pull him up. He tried about 8x,,and then was so tired he couldn't do it anymore. Summer called her brother Luke (in Salisbury), who called a friend who lives 2 streets over. He was working, but called his son in law who lives just down the road, and that guy came over and was a big tall guy, and was able to help get Mr L up the step in one try..whew! He wouldn't accept any money,,and said if we ever need him again to just call. Mr L has OT this afternoon, but he doesn't have to stand to do that..and I don't think he could right now. Ortho wants to see him again in a month.

Sister in law and niece are stopping by and getting my grocery list and going to Walmart. The granddaughters start school tomorrow..and have to go school shopping this afternoon, so they can't stay with him for me to go. Stepdaughters septic problem 'might' be fixed, but she was waiting till she got home to call the landlord. Granddaughter said the toilet flushed,,but didn't seem to be filling back up with water..but she may have been turning the valve the wrong way. I hope its fixed..4 kids between 13 and 21, 2 of them working, makes for a lot of dirty clothes, dirty dishes, showers, and toilet uses!

Its 83 out and was sunny, but now just clouded over and looks like it's going to rain.

That's all I've got for now..off to relax before OT comes at 1

Forgot about the potato salad and Covid questions....
Potato salad, I love it especially when it's homemade but sad to say I've never made it. My mom always did and I'm said to say I never learned how she did it before she couldn't do it anymore and now I can't even ask her. I did learn how she made macaroni salad as DH prefers that anyway. One of my BFs makes really good potato salad so I'll have to ask for her recipe.

I've had two covid tests. One, when we were exposed after a friend tested positive the day after we went to (outdoor)dinner with him back in November. We quarantined while waiting for our test results and it came back negative. The second was about a little over a month later when we actually tested positive. Our area was over run with cases at that time so it was hard to get testing appointments. DH got his first and he was actually feeling better by the time he took it. I couldn't get my test until a week later and DD didn't even bother because they couldn't get her in with me at my appointment and she had same symptoms as the both of us. Thankfully we all had mild cases and recovered, although DD just barely stopped feeling congested and coughing.

I had weight loss surgery 2 years ago and I've started to gain some back so I wanted to check in with him and back on track so I can loss as much as I can before my son's wedding in December.
You can do it. I've also had WLS....mine was in 2010. I initially lost 130 lbs but knew I couldn't maintain that weight so I was OK gaining some back. Over the past 11 years I've gained back 50lbs(20lbs just in the last year....) but still weigh less and I'm way more active than I was before. Working on trying to get some of these "Covid pounds" off at least. Good luck to you.

I'm happy as punch. I just rescheduled our trip from next Dec. 2022 to this coming March. Neither of us can wait to go to and are MORE than ready to get going again.
So exciting. DH has mentioned a possibility of going to Italy again for work soon(like before the end of year soon) but I'm not holding my breath until he knows for sure because right now things could change quickly.

Ortho visit went well.
Glad his visit went well and you got some help getting him in the house.

@Breezy_Carol Glad your DD is having fun at the ocean. Your DH worrying about DGD sounds like me and my niece. I always tell her she's making me nervous when she tries to show me stuff on her scooter or her "gymnastics". Watching her in the ocean would freak me out...we only go in pool when I'm visiting.

@flyingdumbo127 if they can't remove the chain could you just wrap pink ribbon around it?

Forgot to mention DH and DD are starting out for home today from Kansas. DH wants to stop at a few spots on the way home and not rush like he did to get there. He's such a goof ball, he says he wants to stop in Dodge City so he can take a picture in front of the sign so he can say he got the heck out of Dodge....such a dork. :rotfl:
When I talked to him this morning, he said he's been talking to work almost every say...I hope they realize what they are doing and change some of his vacation days to work days, he really doesn't mind though, the man loves his job. I'm glad they'll be home in a couple days, the dogs and I were kinda lonely last night. :rolleyes1

QOTDs

Potato salad. Everyone loved Mom’s and would ask her to make it for cookouts and such. It’s not unlike some of the ones you guys have already posted - very basic with potatoes, chopped onions, pure mayo (not light), vinegar, salt and pepper. And sitting for a day enhances the flavors. My aunt made it the same way but added celery seeds.

Covid tests, too many to count, due to work. All negative, thankfully!

Never made it out yest for fun, grocery shopped instead. But headed out today w DD despite rain and a tornado warning (not near us) so maybe we can relax a bit. The hospital robo called about the tornado coming. Not working till tomorrow so hopefully it’s over by then. I heard we also may be having a hurricane up our way. Good grief.

Oh, I took a pic to show the 🐥 family yesterday. DH planted some rose bushes for me this summer and one in particular was beginning to look really nice. I can’t wait for them to spread.

Forgot to say that we were awaked at midnight last night by the alert noise on our phones that there was a flash flood warning until 3 am. Thank you emergency services. :rolleyes1

@lynxstch, glad Mr. L's appt went well. As far as help getting him into the house, I know around here, which is fairly rural, the volunteer fire department will often send someone out to help with that or to get someone off the floor to a chair. Don't call 911 but call and ask directly.

Here you have to call 911,,which sucks,,cause the Volunteer Fire Dept is about 5 min down the street. They are the ones who came and helped him up off the floor the 2 times he fell a few months ago. But you still have to call 911 to have them sent out..and now when you call..you also get the city ones coming at the same time. One morning at 5 am we had 2 firetrucks, the volunteer fire chiefs car, an ambulance and 2 other cars come..I guess its better than no help..but that was overload. And now they took our volunteer fire depts ambulance and put it out in Flintstone, so you end up getting the city ambulance at a cost of almost $800
