Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

the promised rain and thundershowers were a bust around here.
We got plenty of them. We at dinner on the screened porch to watch the storm but it was raining and blowing rain so hard we were still getting wet and had to move inside. No lightning but lots of rain and thunder.

Tomorrow is Doughnut Day. Duck Donuts is giving away a free doughnut
Already planning to go there also.

Good morning all. One last 76 degree day before the heat wave begins. Guess I will try and weedwack the yard while it's still decent enough to do it. Grass will need to be mowed by tomorrow or Sunday, but it's either going to get done early in the morning, or wait for the heat to drop a bit.

@Kirby--hope your arm and shoulder are better today or soon!

@easyas123-we got the rain that you didn't get. Rained on and off most of the day yesterday, cleared up around dinnertime. Our butterfly bush isn't quite ready to bloom yet, but I noticed that the crepe myrtles seem to be growing faster this year than normal. The Rose of Sharons have blossoms on them, and hubby's Magnolia bush is starting to turn into a tree, lol!

Have a nice morning DIS family!

Well, I may be speaking to soon,

And indeed I did! The weather & storms skirted around us. Not for the first time, the weather seems to do that a lot, following the river and heading north. Oh well. But dang it is muggy out this AM!

I've got a grocery pick up later this afternoon, not for any Covid reason am I not going in the store, I'm just finding the ordering of groceries super convenient and easy! I still need to stop at a different place in order to pick up fresh vegetables & fruit, I prefer to pick that out myself.
No great or grand plans this weekend, just mowing on Saturday and if we don't get any measurable rain today, I'll water the trees.

Our acupuncturist has resumed her practice hours and we were both able to book appointments in early July, which has me very pleased. We each used to go once every 2-3 months and so it's been a long time.

I'm heartened to read on the 'Disney News,, Discussion...' thread that almost daily there is news of one type or another of a return to normal park accommodations/attractions/services and whatnot.

Have a good morning everyone!

Cleaned both bathrooms, did laundry, dusted the dining room and living room, and vacuumed all the rooms. Getting my new Little Green Machine out now, to make sure it works. Some nice little kitty left 2 spots of throw up in the spare room..maybe so I would have to try it? LOL We go from cloudy looking like it's going to rain (but not calling for it) , to sunshine, which it is now. 67 going to 79 but feels muggy to me too. If it dries out I may mow, but kind of hoping it doesn't lol!

Good morning.

Cicadas getting louder and louder. I am sure with the heat this weekend that they will really be screaming.

Heading out to Duck Donuts for a free donut this morning. Then I need to pack. Leaving home at 2:30 to get Tessa from daycare at 3 then head to her house to get DD at 3:30 to head for CT. Not looking forward to the drive around NYC.

I'm just finding the ordering of groceries super convenient and easy!
Me too. I sometimes still order online. And DD does too. It sure is easier for her with two kids and she and her DH working full time. She orders and he picks up.

Feel better, Kirby! Prayers continuing for your DD indeed!

Hug to you as well, Taz Dev and I hope you are also feeling better. Prayers for Anthony's recovery. I'm so sorry he's in pain.

Wow, to all of you near a Duck Donut enjoy (and for me) tomorrow!

Lynn, you are a dynamo all right! I hope maybe you can enjoy a fee donut tomorrow :)

Safe travels, Carol!

Easyas, it really is so much easier and safer to order some things online! I will continue to do this post pandemic because it also helps with budgeting to plan ahead. ITA and I know my Dad does, too, that really anything perishable is best chosen in person!

Wishing all of you a fantastic Friday with a hug :grouphug:

Anyone else besides me experiencing a extreme sluggishness with this website? I can get in no problem via email notifications, but trying to go directly the website page? It either is taking several minutes or it times out.
Oh well - I'm no computer expert, 50% chance it could be a issue on my end.
It's looking like work travel (yay, yay & YAY for that making a comeback!) will likely take me to Boston near the end of August. I'm thinking of either extending my stay by a few days and putzing around the city or taking a bit of a car ride up the coast. Always wanted to see some of the historical sites up that way. I know I'm staying at a area that is in the Wharf area/city waterfront. Anyone familiar with Boston and know if that is a good base for a walkable trip around the areas one may want to walk to in Boston? I think I'm going to order a travel guide.

I'm having some trouble with likes not taking, but I assumed it was my phone.

You should definitely take a few extra days in Boston if you get the chance! I don’t know what hotels to recommend, as we live close enough to just go for the day, so have never stayed, but there are great things to see!

Let me know what you’re interested in (history, science, art...) and I’ll recommend places we enjoyed.

No issues with it here..same quick speed as always!

Have fun planning your trip, Easyas! :)

Yum to a warm donut! I want one :)

I emailed Hallmark channel earlier to let them know I was not thrilled with the new programming during the week being primarily sitcoms. I also did point out that it seems movies especially Country at Heart, are way too often repeated. I did think Hallmark was a movie channel. I'll let you know if I hear back. Worth a try :)

Greetings from rainy, muggy CT. Not too long ago the heavens opened up and we had quite the downpour. I had to run outside to get the newspaper...our carrier doesn't put them in the plastic bags, and he shoves it so hard into the newspaper slot on the mailbox that it comes halfway out the other side :sad2:

Lots of prayers to Kirby and Taz Dev...and to all who are in need at this time.

Flying Dumbo, your post about Champ and popcorn reminds me so much of our dog Tara and her love of Doritos! I seem to remember my mom taking a photo of me sitting in the recliner with a bag next to me, and Tara standing on her back legs, front legs resting on the footrest of the chair, and she got a Dorito for each one I ate. She would end up with reddish-orange powder all over her mouth. Wow, I miss that dog... :sad1:

QOTD: What's your favorite zoo animal?
I like to take photos of the peacocks and flamingos. Beautifully colored! I also love the big cats - tigers, cheetahs, panthers, etc.
QOTD: What is your favorite game or sport (to watch or play)?
I don't play sports. I look athletic, but I am NOT coordinated. I randomly trip over my own feet - like when I'm walking in a straight line, on a flat surface, and I'll just *trip*.

Not a big fan of watching sports on TV, although I can handle hockey. They're allowed to fight ;) Live sports are more fun. DH and I used to get free tickets once in a while to see the Springfield Falcons (now Thunderbirds) (hockey) when he worked at a different bank. We took Josh several years ago when the bank DH worked for sponsored a game. We'd like to do that again soon, and also go to a Yard Goats (baseball) game. I just want to go because I really like that name ;) I would like to visit Fenway Park, too.

Of course I'm good with Josh enjoying sports, playing his soccer and now baseball/t-ball. But just between us...I get bored easily :scared: And in all fairness, so do the kids. The second half of his t-ball games, the kids are too busy kicking dirt and chit-chatting with each other and the coaches really struggle to keep them on task.

So speaking of keeping the kids on task, there is only one and half weeks left in the school year - and I guess you could say that the learning part ends in less than a week. They turn in their iPads on Thursday. But Josh is REALLY pushing back already. He had a fit on Wednesday about doing his assignments; he still has writing to do (he has to write a letter to his teacher, to convince her of what is the best flavor of ice cream). Today is the last time he will see his music teacher for this year. So hard to believe.

I've been continuing to work on my crafts. My mom has let me take over the laundry, thankfully. On Wednesday, I spray-painted one of our living room lamps - I loved the shape, but I hated the distressed bronze/terracotta color. It's deep turquoise now (or "lagoon") and I love it. Also on Wednesday, toward the end of Josh's t-ball practice, a few police officers showed up with one of the K9 officers. Beautiful dog, a yellow lab. Since he wasn't working, all of the kids were allowed to pet him, but Josh is intimidated by big dogs - or maybe by the fact that he's a police officer - and he basically gave him one little pat, then went back and sat down. All of the kids also received a swag bag with a coloring book, a police badge sticker, a water bottle, and one of those safety kits for us parents to do.

Yesterday we received a letter from his gymnastics place, inviting him to join the "team prep" group for the summer session. He has been "identified by the instructors as having an advanced aptitude for gymnastics" and will be in a small class of same-aged boys, but getting a little more attention and training to eventually join the competition team. I don't know if he wants to go that far - I don't know if *I* want him to go that far, I have a heart attack every time he randomly flips in the air - but he wants to try it out. We had already signed him up and paid for a regular summer session, so they just moved him into the invitation-only class.

Our library also finally put out their summer children's schedule and it is fabulous! They're going to do a weekly "Storytime in the Park," reading books at different playgrounds around town. The first one is at the playground around the corner from us so we can walk there. There will also be days for crafts, nighttime "drive-in" movies (not in our cars, but we have to bring a blanket to sit on the lawn), etc. And our movie theatre has reopened and will be showing kids' movies one morning a week for $1.50 per ticket. We did that 2 years ago...it was only $1 per ticket then, but I'm not complaining...and last year he whined quite often that he wished we could go to the movies again. So at least it's going to be a full summer!

Thanks!
History, for sure 100%. I just ordered a few travel guides. Would love to hit a few of the big spots that are walkable from hotel, and then am considering driving up to Salem or ?? for a few days.

Then of course the Freedom Trail! You pick it up on the Boston Common, and there are guided ones, or just the "follow the red line" at your own pace type. This list of what it includes is actually from a trolley tours website (this one):
... including the Massachusetts State House, the Park Street Church (open summer time only), Granary Burying Ground, Kings Chapel, Kings Chapel Burying Ground, Benjamin Franklin Statue & Boston Latin School, Old Corner Book Store, Old South Meeting House, Old State House, Site of the Boston Massacre, Faneuil Hall, the Paul Revere House, the Old North Church, Copp’s Hill Burying Ground, the Bunker Hill Monument and the USS Constitution.

You can stop and start on the trail, depending on what you want to go into and what you just want to "see". When DS was younger, we enjoyed the State House tour, and the graveyards are really interesting if that doesn't creep you out.

When you hear people refer to Faneuil Hall, they are usually talking about more than just the building on that list, too. It's a whole shopping and eating area, and pre-covid, there were always a lot of street performers. I'm guessing that will be happening again this summer.

The JFK Library & Museum is something we really liked as well. It's on the edge of the city, but easily accessible by "T" (our subway system).

I like the Duck Tours, too, if you want a quick overview of the city.

Salem is definitely cool. I haven't been years, but that's because it was one of the first things I did after I moved here! We've never done Lexington & Concord, though we kept meaning to. And down my way is Plymouth - the actual "rock" is nothing special, but Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower replica are pretty neat. (I chaperoned that field trip with both DS's preschool and 3rd grade classes.)

Here is something to check out if you're looking for deals on admissions to different places:
"Go Boston" - flexible multi-attraction pass

What a great idea!!

last year he whined quite often that he wished we could go to the movies again.

Last year I whined I couldn't got to the movies again! And I'm only good for 2, MAYBE three movies per year!
I guess it's the whole 'don't know what you've got till you don't' thing. I was going to go see Cruella but was feeling blah blah about it - but I'm for sure looking forward to going to a few other films this summer. I still haven't signed up for Disney, although I was going to. But I still have a half a DVR full of stuff I was interested enough in recording, but can't get interested enough in actually watching!

Amazon Prime is AMAZING, really - when you think about it. I was thinking to myself earlier today that I would like a book or two to read this weekend. I have a Kindle, but you know there is just something about a real, physical book. At least to me, so I ordered two books and they will be here by noon tomorrow. I couldn't drive up to the mall, be there when it opens, go into Barnes & Noble and be home before my books will be here! Not that I'm against a good wander thru a B&N on occasion mind you! So know I've got a date with a chair and some sunshine &/or shade and a few hours of reading outside.

and the graveyards are really interesting if that doesn't creep you out.

Are you kidding me? We are hoping to see some interesting graveyards! That is high on the list, as is the Freedom Trail. Wow - thanks for all that info. Touring old graveyards is actually something we do whenever the opportunity arises. Thanks again, it's nice to have something new & fresh to look forward to at the end of summer. We've traveled this past 15 months, but only to Florida a few times and so I'm jazzed for something completely different and new.

Good afternoon.

@apirateslifeforme - Thanks for the prayers. Anthony needs them. He is really upset about missing baseball. I get the T-ball thing. I coached most of my grandkids in T-Ball and the organization wanted 4 innings, I was happy with 2. The little guys just don't last longer than that. If the ice cream man shows up, forget it. Some of the coaches were so competitive. My philosophy was have fun, learn how to run the bases, learn how not to throw like a girl and HAVE FUN!!! 3-5 year olds don't need to be competitive.

I am feeling 100% better today as I figured I would, thanks for the concern. We headed to Duck Donuts and they were so warm it was wonderful. I was really hungry and it hit the spot. Of course then we had to get another 1/2 dozen. I created a monster with my husband.

Hope those of you heading to Boston have way more fun than I did on the 2 trips I took. My kids call our trip to New England "Mom went Psycho". We did Plimouth Plantation which they loved. Boston we saw in 4 hours, literally. I raced them through the city historic area and they have never forgotten that. We did like Salem. Portland Maine is remembered for the flat tire and trying to find a replacement. My car wasn't popular up there. The ride home was an adventure with my youngest sleeping upside down in the car with her smelly feet in her brother and sisters faces. The other trip was with friends and by time we were heading home I refused to speak to anyone. I enjoyed the sights that I managed to see, what little there was. Boston we spent $30+ for parking to walk over to Faneuil Hall and leave. Literally 1/2 hour in the city. I may add that to the list of places we should go to again, alone. Our travel companions were friends and I love her dearly, him not so much. But between the 2 of them they have 1/2 a brain and I have a serious headache by the end of the trips. I have to completely dumb down for them and it is a real effort.

We have had rain off and on since yesterday and they are calling for more this weekend although right now the sun is shining and my husband is out front of the house with the dog. We found out that she likes watermelon. I know she likes popcorn. She's a funny little dog.

Have a nice rest of the day.
