Does the new dog have a name yet? Any updates on Beatrice and Willow?

ahhh - thanks for remembering them! No updates, no - but I specifically don't seek out contact with the new adoptive families because I feel, for me at least, it is easier for me to make a clean break from the dog. I find it hard to give them up sometimes and well, it's easier for me to move on after if I just shut that door. I know it's not how everyone would handle the situation, but it is what works for me.
New pup is Cali, she's not quite a year & a half old. Other than skin infection - which we are working on getting cleared up, and possible allergies to deal with, she really just needs to gain some weight and be spayed. I've already got her scheduled for that in a month once she is off the meds for the skin & ear infections. She's a petite little thing, my husband calls her a 'minature' bulldog. She's about 23 lbs now, and I'd guess less than 12" at the shoulder although I haven't measured her yet. If all goes right she should be available for adoption at the end of March, beginning of April! Adoption applications accepted from NJ, NY, PA, MD, DE, VA, DC, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT & Maine....so if anyone is interested ha ha!! Here are a few photos. For size context that rope toy belongs to our dogs-

Watching the construction on the house behind us trying to figure out what they are doing Have to watch through a hedge which makes being nosy a little harder. Looks like they are removing a perfectly good deck.

I must admit, we indulge in a little of this ourselves! Let us know if you discover what they are building...do you think they are replacing their deck maybe?

I placed a grocery delivery order earlier today, for delivery by / before 4:30. I've placed this order, delivered to me at the office, several times. For whatever reason today the instacart website put the order thru then just a few minutes ago texted me to say order now wouldn't be here till 5:30. Luckily there wasn't anything I needed tonight in there, and I wasn't waiting around for it, I don't want to waste what is left of a somewhat pleasant day in the office, so I rescheduled it for tomorrow afternoon.

Looks like dinner this evening is going to be flounder, served with a spinach salad & some cilantro rice. I need to do some general straightening up around the house, too.

Cali is adorable!!!

(I am not in the market for a dog, though!)

It’s so nice of you to help her get ready for her forever family.:dog::love:

isn't she!?! I know many won't be interested, but this board is as close as I get to social media so I figured why not put her out there! Actually the rescue organization will handle her adoption process (I get a bit of a say in choosing the adoptive family/person) and putting her on their Facebook and Instagram and whatever they use. Our last foster had over a 100 applications before they stopped accepting them, so they must really get the word out.

Love it, Sparkle! :)

Aww, cute Cali, Easyas! Thank you again so much for all the love and care you and your family give to so many dogs.

It is such a Blessing to have not been cold really today, amazing!

I tried watching some of Tulips in Spring but didn't get into it. The tulips were beautiful though! 🌷

I hope all of you are having a good afternoon :)

Cali is so cute. I think she will find a good home when it's time. Thank you for taking care of these lovely dogs.

@flyingdumbo227 I hope your Dad is feeling better. My neck and upper back were a little sore after the vaccine. Tylenol worked very well. He'll now have it ready for the second vaccine so that's good.

It is a bit colder today, 42 and windy. But the sun is out so it is a nice day. We all enjoyed our walks. It was my day to go into work for the morning. My coworker and friend who moved out of state and works from home was visiting her family here. She is the office for the next couple of weeks. I so enjoyed seeing her and talking with her. I miss her humor and kindness.

DH is cooking dinner tonight. I cut up and cooked the chicken. He is heating up some andouille sausages. Then he will mix it all up with a jambalaya rice mix. He loves this type of meal. I am not so fond of it. I will eat a little bit and maybe have an apple on the side. But, since I didn't have to cook, I can't complain.

We had a nice visit with DD and the grands at the park. It was cool but sunny. Tessa got to play on the playground and Carter rode in the wagon when we took a walk. Tessa had her scooter but didn't last long before she got in the wagon too. Their doctor appt was Carter's 9 month visit and Tessa's 4 year visit. She had to get two shots but was "brave."

@easyas123, cute dog. I would have trouble fostering and then giving them up. Bless you for doing that. What is the name of your rescue?

Let us know if you discover what they are building...do you think they are replacing their deck maybe?
Maybe, but the one there wasn't that old and looked in good shape. A week or two ago they ripped out a lot of bushes around the old deck. I wonder if they are adding a room or screened porch. I'll let you know what happens.

I have a kitchen floor and it is so nice. When I put the backsplash against the floor and the walls I was super excited. This is going to look awesome when it is done.

I realized that today was my brother's 60th birthday. I haven't spoken to him in about 10 years or so by his choice. My brother has his personal demons to contend with and sadly his answer was to cut us out of his life. It hurts my mom terribly and she prays everyday that one day he will come back to us. She did get in contact with a friend from many years ago who still lives around the corner from where my brother lives. He is in my parents old house. The friend made my mom so happy when she let her know how my brother is doing. Even if he never comes back to the family my mom is at peace.

Then I realized 10 years ago today my husband's nephew committed suicide. He was a drug addict and tried so many times to get clean and just couldn't. His solution was his family was better off without him. I wish I had known what he was thinking and maybe I could have helped him. I just hope he has found some peace.

Oh well what a downer. Instead I will look at the bright side of things. My brother is alive and doing well and seems to be happy so that is a good thing. My kitchen is coming together and I am so excited. The cabinets will be here by 9 AM and installation starts right after that. I will have a kitchen soon. My mom looks like she went 9 rounds in the ring but she is doing OK and it could have been so much worse. All in all not a bad day.

Cali is beautiful. If we were closer I bet my DS would take her. He has been looking at English Bull Dog rescues for a while now as a companion to his English Bull Dog, Mack.

I just heard thunder. We're expecting rain tonight with possible thunderstorms. Nothing serious. We need the rain. Apparently the snow we received last week wasn't enough because there was a grass fire just around the corner from us. A welder was putting up a building in someone's backyard and a spark started the fire.

It was Valentine's Day at preschool. The kids came home full of sugar fueled energy. Lou Lou got a balloon and they've spent a lot of time playing keep the balloon off of the floor.

Good morning DIS family. I just checked the weather for today,,how can 2 reports be so different. One says tonite we will have up to 2" of slushy freezing rain, ice, or snow and 57 tomorrow..the other shows perfectly clear overnite with 57 tomorrow? Do they all go to different meteorology schools? LOL!

Sister in law was able to find hubby some Old Fashioned Loaf he's been craving, so she stopped by with it around dinnertime last nite and we sat outside talking for about 45 min. It was nice to get outside and actually see someone for a change.

@tazdev3225--Made me sad to read parts of your post..family issues abound in a lot of families (mine included), so I am glad you were able to look on the bright side about your kitchen. Happy that it's coming along so nicely and will be done shortly, and all your hard work will have paid off.

@Kirby--yikes to thunderstorms so early in the season (at least for us it would be), we are expecting some rain tomorrow, and I guess since it's going to be near 60, it would be possible for us to have some too. Glad LouLou and Lil Joe had a fun day..it's always fun to watch kids play with balloons and try to catch them!

@Snowysmom-- I used to like it when hubby would cook every now and then, but he would almost always want to make something I didn't care for,,so I feel your pain, lol. I agree with you in that what your hubby cooked, wouldn't be something I would be fond of either! I hope he did the dishes along with fixing dinner!!!9600a3b3d9c1190d3cd54911a67af39c.jpg

Have a great morning everyone!!

Morning all. I am up bright and early in case the cabinets come early. Of course I am always up bright and early to have an hour or 2 to myself.

I still can't get over how amazing the kitchen floor looks. Of course my cats are not happy. I came down to their container of food all over the floor. Because of the dog I keep their feeder in the garden window. They are used to a table, then counter to jump in the window. Adso needs to be picked up because he really is annoyed by it all and just looks pathetic. Yoda seems to be OK with the jump, and Jack is my husbands cat so I am sure he is getting Jim to put him up there.

I need to buy some kind of mat for the dog's food and water. She is to low to the ground for a raised feeder. I would also hate to get rid of her water bowl. I got it on a trip to Disney in 1992. It holds great sentimental value and you can't get them anymore.

@lynxstch Every family has some issues for sure. Different personalities sometimes clash. My brother is gay and a bit of a radical but he has a good heart. My other 3 brothers refused to accept that he is gay and there were a ton of issues because of it. He was also bullied a lot when we were kids and he never got over that. He needed the separation for his own mental health. I just hated seeing how it hurt my parents and was very angry with him for a long time. I'm with my mom, I just hope he is happy and found some peace. It's sad because he has nieces and nephews he has never met who would benefit from knowing who he is. Maybe one day he will come back to us.

On that note, the weather is supposed to be nice today and my kitchen is coming together.

Have a great day everyone

QOTD: How did you meet your friends ??

i got it from another thread on this site, I wasn’t sure if the person was looking for ideas on how to meet people. I suggest joining a church, or volunteering in the community. But if she was just curious, I responded below.

i met a lot of my friends in my 20s by sitting next to them in a college class.
in my 30s, by joining a moms group and many play dates with the kids at the park
in my 40s, and during COVID, i realize who i really want to make the effort for to bundle up in 35 degree weather and meet for a walk in the snow.

QOTD
I met a lot of friends in high school, still friends with a few
Met others through jobs, not really friends with any of those any longer
2 of my 'best friends' are my ex sister in laws, one of them I have always thought of as my little sister, the other can be a real pita at times, but still considered a friend, lol
Met some online (that is where I met hubby also), 2 of those friends I became more like sisters than friends, 1 passed away 4 years ago
Some I met here on the DIS, and a couple of them here on this thread
Meet some casually here and there, and everywhere
Had one really good friend that was a neighbor when we bought this house, she ended up in a nursing home and has since passed away

QOTD: How did you meet your friends ??

Combo of school friends, work, people we've met over the years when the kids were kids and we were doing school & sports type stuff.

I'm really bothered by something, and it's stayed with me for a good 12 hours since I read in. I've mentioned before, we live in a rural area...we have a newspaper that comes out once a week. So I'm reading the paper last night - it would seem that there was a head on accident on a back road in area, two guys in a truck, one guy in a car. Truck driver crosses center line, hits car head on. Driver of truck & car didn't survive the accident, passenger in truck did, but with injuries. Driver of truck found to be under the influence. One page later is the traffic report...24 hours prior to this accident the driver of the truck was pulled over for: " impaired by a dangerous substance, attempting to drive while so impaired that he couldn't drive safely, failure to drive right of center, negligent driving, reckless driving, exceeding the speed limit, possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia". Released on personal recognizance and 24 hours later killed a innocent man. Someone's father, grandfather, husband, uncle, son, brother is gone because this guy was not just released, but still driving. I'm just livid. I don't know any of the people involved, and I'm just beside myself. I have zero sympathy for the driver of the truck and I am just stunned some poor guys family is left with this stunning end of life of their loved one because this other guy was allowed to carry on.
Sorry for the vent, like I said - for some reason it's just really been weighing on me, the unfairness of it.

@easyas123
How sad..and you are right, it's very unfair. But that's the way it usually goes. Because of drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, too many innocent people lose their lives, ruin families, etc. The police should not have released that guy a day earlier. :
I lost 2 friends in high school because of that. A drunk truck driver literally drove into and over the car the girls were riding in and decapitated and killed both of them. I can remember seeing the picture of what remained of the car in the paper the next day. It devastated so many of us since they had been our friends. Those were 2 very difficult funerals to get through :(

I was 16 when my 18 year old cousin was killed by a drunk driver, my Aunt & Uncle never fully recovered.
Hey - we like to knock back a few drinks, we do. Won't lie. Plus we own a vineyard, we are in the alcohol business!! but you know what? We drink at home or get a driver. Always have, always will. It's just - I don't know, beyond my comprehension.

Apologies all, for bringing the thread down! I am/was having a morning but have decided to try to refocus my brain- try to bring my self to a better attitude!
Mud, mud everywhere and more to come. Looks like we can expect rain tomorrow morning and much of the day Sunday. Lynxstch my husband shares your frustration with the weather forecasters! Our yard is super saturated with water already, chicken & dog pen a muddy mess BUT I've spotted several bulbs coming up! I think we are about a week or 10 days out from our new fence installation as well, it's just going to change the whole look of the back yard and I'm looking forward to seeing it. We were walking thru the woods the other day and spotted two trees in the area of my stumpery that are dead and need to come down, so I'm going to cut them down about a foot off the ground and work the stumps into planting areas for some more ferns. They are right next to the pond so I thought about looking up some hardy and economical flowering type shrubs to add to the area. I love azalea's but for some reason I have the worst luck with them, every one I've ever planted and died. I don't have a lot of luck with rhododendron's either, but I may have to revisit both of them in this area.

Should be a good weekend, I've got my super exciting trip to Costco tomorrow morning, and I'm making dinner for all the kids tomorrow evening since youngest will be home for the weekend. His request: chicken parm w/ all the accompaniments & brownies. Of course I have taken the dining room over for the foster dogs crate & odds & ends so I need to do some rearranging in there but I'll figure it out. Sunday looks to be a wash, literally with all the rain. We've been talking about trying to take the blinds in the bathroom down to try to soak/clean, so that may be on the agenda. I'm not so sure how we will make out but nothing to lose, they either need to be cleaned really well or replaced.

No idea what is for dinner this evening, it's looking a lot more like pizza or Chinese take away ::yes::
