Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

We cleaned house today. DSonIL is coming tomorrow with the 2 grandkids. He has a Zoom meeting for school which he will do here and I am going to watch the kids and take DGD across the street for swim lessons. She is going to do 3-5 more this week as she is making good progress.

We did get a chance to go for a 1.5 mile walk in Fair Hill. We didn't want to stray too far from the car because of the threat of storms. Taco salad for dinner.

Heading to bed now.

Hello all.

Allison-sounds like a fun week and glad to hear the show was a success.

kirby- Very scary for Mike, definite prayers going out to him.
Also prayers out to Lil Joe and your daughter. That situation has to be so difficult for them both. If I remember, his time to come home is near?

flyingdumbo- great progress on your room, glad you found a color that makes you happy.

I was pretty lazy today. I did manage to get a few loads of laundry through and some trash taken out/burned. I did not make it to church as I went to a county fair to watch one of my friends kids show their animals. Was nice weather and was good to catch up with her for a bit.
Speaking of nice weather, I’d be happy if the temps we’ve had the last two days would stick around for all of August, but I think we are in for another major warm up by the end of the week.

Good night and rest well everyone.

Good morning all. Very pleasant 54 degrees out right now, only going to 80 or so today and tomorrow. Of course the storms they promised never materialized, except for the 10 min of rain that didn't even wet the ground.

@Kirby prayers said for Mike, how awful his injuries sound :(

@frog3010 I was hoping our nice weather (80's) would hang around awhile too, but by the end of the week we are supposed to be back to the 90's and no rain in sight.

I was in bed by 8:30 last nite, just couldn't keep my eyes opened. Then I realized why. Saturday morning when I went outside, the top of my fountain for the solar bird bath was missing. It was there the night before. We have peony bushes on either side of the bath, and I thought maybe it fell in there. So I pushed aside some of the peony branches, and a bee flew out and stung me just above my elbow on my right arm. I immediately made sure the stinger was gone, and put some toothpaste on it to stop the itch. Also took Benadryl, which apparently made me drowsy even though it said non drowsy. I took more on Saturday afternoon and evening..and only took 2 when I got home yesterday, but by 8 I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open to watch tv. I called hubby and said goodnite, and went to bed. I woke up at 10:30, midnite, 2 and then 4. Think I am gonna lay off the Benadryl for the day. Too much to think about to be getting sleepy.

Of course my mind is going a million different ways, trying to figure out the logistics of getting Mr L home, if they are able to get a wheel chair and how they will get it here, getting him home in the car , then up the step, etc. Trying to figure out if I need to move some furniture around or what. He may be sleeping in his lift recliner for the first few days, until he feels up to trying the bed. I did get a lighted guardrail for his side of the bed, just in case he needs help getting up or down.

Going to make a stop at Walmart on the way home today. Want to stock up on cat food, litter, lunch meat, etc..we may be housebound for a week or 2, and even though my sister in law said she would pick up anything we needed, I have relied on her way too much over the last month to keep doing it. I assume they are going to have another meeting in the hospital today to definitely decide if they think he's ready for discharge. And he will have PT at 1 so he can try the step thing again. Just too much in my head right now :(

Have a nice morning all

Good morning.

Trying to get a quick look here before grandkids arrive.

Beautiful day but a little cool. Would be ok if Tessa wasn't having a swim lesson at 10:15.

@frog3101, in what part of the country do you live? Your weather sounds like the weather here in MD.

@Kirby, that does sound like a terrible and scary injury for Mike.

@lynxstch, I hope you can rest some.
When I worked at inpatient facilities, we had to give written notification 48 hours before patients discharge so they could appeal the decision if they didn't agree. I am surprised they can tell you one day for the next, unless you signed something on admission. From the Medicare website :
Notice of Termination of Services (SNF, HHA, CORF)

A provider must issue advance written notice to enrollees before termination of services in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Home Health Agency (HHA), or Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility (CORF). If an enrollee files an appeal, then the plan must deliver a detailed explanation of why services should end. The two notices used for this purpose are:

  • Notice of Medicare Non-Coverage (NOMNC) Form CMS-10123-NOMNC, and the
  • Detailed Explanation of Non-Coverage (DENC) Form CMS-10124-DENC.

Thanks Carol, I will have to check on that when I get there--

The only thing they have given us so far, 3x since he changed floors 3 x was a paper saying you have the right to appeal if you don't think you are ready..but there are no dates of discharge anywhere on them. Guess I will find out this morning. PT has to be the last one to sign off on him, so we'll see how he does this morning. I asked Mr L this morning if he feels ready to come home,,his answer was 'I am ready to have more time with you',,but that isn't the question I asked him!
Off to get ready,,and it is so beautiful out right now, I would like the 64 degrees to just stay for a couple of days, lol!

If I may, Lynn, you should also ask about dietary recommendations from his medical team (which may be different than rehab team) for when he goes home. Since he was getting lasix in the hospital there is likely some element of fluid volume excess so he will likely need to watch his sodium and fluid intakes, as well as weigh himself, daily, to make sure he is not retaining fluid. Fluid retention contributes to infections in the legs and things like that when oxygen and healing nutrients can’t get down to the source of infection because their pathway is blocked with excess fluid. So it behooves you both to try to keep it off him. Sodium recommendations are generally not more than 2000mg/day, so reading labels and watching serving sizes are important. Salty foods should be avoided; fresh is usually the way to go. Fluid restriction generally to not more than 2 liters/day, roughly 64 oz, in 24 hrs. And daily weights in the morning, after voiding, same clothes. If weight goes up quickly that is usually a sign of fluid retention, and often can happen after a salty meal followed by drinking extra fluids. I know it’s not something you really want to deal with after the past couple of weeks, but it can help keep him out of the hospital, which is something, I’m sure, you’re motivated for! Moving around also helps mobilize fluid in his legs. If he’s sitting, it’s good if he’s reclined a bit so fluid can freely flow from his lower extremities, and not get trapped there. I had this very talk with one of my pts last week with similar issues, and it made a difference for him and his wife in how they were going to approach his recovery once they left the hospital, too. So thought I’d share. :flower3:

Have a zoom mtg this morning so only have a few mins, but just wanted to say the party went off really well. Weather and food were awesome, everyone had a good time, and party recipient was very grateful. Attended a similar party on Saturday and didn’t get home until late. Was exhausted yesterday after all those days of cleaning, cooking, and traveling, but it was a lot of fun. I forgot to get pictures, I was too focused on serving food hot and making sure everything was set up right, but the sauce and meatballs/sausages came out delish and the chicken parm was great, manicotti good, etc. The strawberry whipped cream cake was so good, as were the cannolis that DH made. Yesterday I was half dead, lol.

Things remain crazy here. Just as we got DS out of the hospital, now we have FIL in. He went to the ER on Friday, had emergency surgery Saturday night, and is recovering well now.

I hope a good recovery happens for Mike as well, Kirby - how scary! (And poor Lil' Joe - it's so hard for kids to understand custody arrangements. :( )

Mona, the wall looks bright and cheerful. :bounce:

Lynn, I'm sure "Mr. L" does want to be home with you, and I hope you get some rain!

Pea, glad the party went well. It's nice to be able to get together with people again (at least for the time being). We saw some friends yesterday that we haven't seen in a while, and made vague plans to get together again soon with them and another couple.

Good morning everyone, hope you all had a good weekend.

Foster dog has had her new adoptive family approved, hopefully she'll be in her new home by mid-August (she still needs to get spayed later this week, and they have paperwork to take care of- it's volunteer run so sometimes it doesn't happen overnight)

Youngest brought his girlfriend over for about 24 hours this weekend. It was nice to see her again and have her as a guest. She's a teacher - I think this is only her second or third year teaching 6-8th grade, and she goes back to get things started in the next week or so. We ordered crabs, and eldest and his girlfriend joined us, as did two friends of theirs. We said our good nights around 8:30 and left the younger crowd to carry on without us.
Went and saw Jungle Cruise yesterday afternoon. It hit the spot, a fun, light adventure film very much in the vein of Indiana Jones/Sherlock Holmes/Pirates movies. There was a group of about 8-6 little kids and 2 moms, who trooped in and sat right in front of us (theatre 3/4 empty) just as the movie started, and spend the rest of the time getting up and parsing out popcorn and trading drinks and little Suzie come sit here, little Bobby go sit over there. The whole dang movie. They basically spent 2 hours teaching those kids who NOT to behave in a movie theatre. Oh well, we survived and enjoyed the movie. Went to the theatres in the mall in the town we were both older teenagers in during the late 80's & early 90's. The mall is dying around us, slowly, but we've noticed it over the past 4 or 5 years. I must admit it's not the mall I usually go to when I need to go to a mall. We headed there for 'something different'. Two of the four big anchor stores are gone, and probably a 3rd of the mall stores sit empty. Ironically the mall 30 minutes up the road (where I usually go) is very vibrant and bustling and adding additional stuff over the past few years.

We got some rain! yay! Finally, it rained on and off Sunday early AM, through the day and I think maybe a bit overnight. We could still use more but this was a good start. I think we may be due for some rain later in the week again.

I'm not sure what's for dinner this evening. I'm thinking maybe chicken breast...grilled? oven fried?

Lynn- good luck with Mr. L today and sorting thru the coming home or not coming home paperwork and protocols. Hope he's feeling better soon.

It's wonderful that she's got her family lined up!

:sad2: bummer. Glad you liked the movie anyway. We had to change our Saturday plans, but are hoping to watch it Thursday now. I'm looking forward to it!

That is probably it. We had to give it with the dates 48 hours ahead.

@Pea-n-Me, thank you for reposting. I would have missed that.

I'm doing chicken breast on the Foreman grill with left over red beans and rice, and maybe tomatoes from my garden.

🌞Friends and Happy Monday, too,

Hugs, Pea, good to see you posting, my friend.

So many prayers for Mike, Lil Joe, always Mr. L and Lynn, too, PollyannaMom's family, and each of dear you! :grouphug: and 💛

Extra  to Snowysmom and Taz Dev.

Hooray and praise God always for grand children time and happy new homes for foster :dog2: dogs.

Thank you all also for the green paper thumbs up :)

and maybe tomatoes from my garden.

Here is what we have been getting from our garden every 2-3 days-not pictured, the bell peppers. We always have lousy luck with bell peppers, except this year for some reason they are going gangbusters! I love having peppers in the freezer for this or that, so I'm glad for that. I mostly stew down our tomatoes and jalapenos, we eat a lot of BLT's & steaks w/ tomatoes, I roast almost all the cherry tomatoes and make a lot of fresh pico de gallo. a lot.....

Thread Save and Good Afternoon :)

FYI, Target Circle this week (you have to put the offer on your phone) is doing a $5 Target Gift Card when you spend $20 in Health and Beauty. Dad went to Target this morning and tried to get this offer twice ($10 total). I had called yesterday and was told by customer service that if I spent $40 pre tax, the $10 should work but does not always automatically do so. She suggested I do two separate transactions as a workaround. Not once did she mention (I could have carefully looked, too, I know) that this offer was only one per account! That's okay though because it was time to stock up on dental and time of month liner type products :P Had we known, we would have only spent $20.

I'm watching Reunited at Christmas from 2018 (I had never seen it) that I DVR-ed last week. I'm rooting for the original couple to surprise me by staying together for once and I hope the actress' parents who are divorced but spending Christmas as a family together, might just get back together. I'll post what I thought of it when I've watched it all. Have any of you seen this? :)

I shall check back in later🌼

Yes, we're expecting him on Sunday but he could arrive as early as Friday. :jumping1:

You might talk to OT about your room set up. OT helped me so much when my mom was in rehab for the hip revision I told you about. I had her kitchen counters rearranged and everything she would need accessible until PT said that she could put weight on her leg before she came home. Home Health OT had nothing to do when they began visiting her. Or if you have a home health company already picked out maybe you could see if one of their OT's could come for a visit before he comes home to see what they think would be helpful for you. Also, PT had my mom practice getting in and out of my car before she could leave therapy. And also getting up and down a step since she had a small one to get in the house about 5" high.

Update on Mike, he could feel his mom touching his legs and toes today. DD got stuck in South Carolina this morning. AA canceled all their flights this morning due to the thunderstorms we were having. By the time she made it up to the counter, all the flights left for today were multiple stops and hours in the air so she is booked on the first plane out tomorrow morning. She is going by to visit with Mike before coming home. She has been talking to Mike on the phone on and off and he is really looking forward to seeing her. He is really scared, I think that she will be a good motivator when he goes to rehab. I don't know where this relationship is going for her but I keep praying that God will work in her life.

It was so good to hear the rain finally during the night after all the thunder bumping we could hear last evening with not a drop. Temps have stayed down in the 80's today but the humidity is high, high, high!

Dinner tonight will be chili and cornbread.

Glad to hear the update on Mike, and that he is getting some sensation back..that's encouraging.
The hospital is setting up the home care,,but I don't think there will be much to do for them either. We have a small house,,so there can't be a lot of rearranging, lol..but thanks for the suggestions.! They did say PT will come down to the car tomorrow and have him practice getting in and out of the car..but they can only do it once or he will be too tired to do it when he gets home.
Glad you got rain..send some our way!

Hello everyone,
I am exhausted, 3 days of rummage sale, a day of packing up and donating leftovers, weeks of gathering and prepping. Glad it is over!! We did better than I expected, every penny counts for the care of my sisters kids. I'm also happy that I got some things cleaned out of our house and I don't have to haul it anywhere. Of course I couldn't resist bringing a few things home with me :worship: My knee is so sore, pretty bad when I had to cancel my rehab appt. for tomorrow because I'm too sore to go.

Lynxstch... I hope things settle down for you soon, there is nothing more tiring than a loved one who is ill. Please take care of yourself, you need to stay healthy so take help when it's offered. Please.

easyas123... beautiful produce!! My plants did awful this year.
